Great place to come for great deals on pairs of eye glasses and comfy eye wear adjustments!
Located inside Costco Kapolei, this optical shop sells eye glasses, contacts, and has a doc in the house.
Not every Costco has an optometry space. This Kapolei store, Waipio, & Iwilei (town) are the ones with the optometry services; the Hawaii Kai store does not.
So great if you're in need of optician or optometry services. They sell glass lenses and of course the much lighter plastic lenses in CR-39, polycarbonate, and high-index, and they've gotten really good at frame adjustments and making eye glasses.
When they first opened up, they did not adjust eye glasses as well, the prescriptions would come out funny kine, and the beveled edges on the lenses were not even. Fast forward a bunch of years and heck yeah! They make some great pairs of assistive eyeball wear! When you buy glasses or lenses from them, they'll give you a case and a lens wiper! If the nose pad of your nose pad arm tears off, they'll replace it for free. If you smash your glasses, they will try to help you as best they can!
So I want to tell you a story to demonstrate the expertise of the Costco opticians here recently.
I once worked for a bunch of years at the Sears Optical at Pearlridge Shopping Center. Despite my knowledge about how to care for eye glasses, I did the unthinkable and guess what happened to me?! Lol
I stepped on and smashed my poor eye glasses! Boohoohoo :( :( :(
One night just before going to bed, I got into bed and took off my eye glasses to read something on my phone which led to my checking my Yeep friend's check-ins and sending compliments. A period later lol, I got up to turn off the light. In the morning, I got up, got ready for work, and then went to grab my eye glasses (where I normally put them before getting in bed) to put them on and..ahh heck!
Where did I put them eyeballs?!?!?!
Aack! :/
Well, long story short is: IDK! So I pulled out my other non-favorite pair and used those to get to work.
It took me about a week to find the misplaced pair and when I did, I felt them under my right foot! :(
Apparently they fell off my comforter onto the floor sometime while I slept or after and bc they're thin black frames with non-shiny clear lenses, I couldn't find them!
Sure enough, one of the lenses had popped out and the temples were out of whack! My experience from working as an optician at Sears Optical helped me to adjust them back (don't try it unless you really know what you're doing) and insert the one lens back into the fishing line (what would we eye glass wearers do without fishing line, yeah?!) but I didn't have the nose pad adjustment tool to straighten out the nose pad arms.
That's when I needed the help of Costco Optical!
Well, I bought the lenses from Costco so I took my less smashed glasses to them for this major tune up lol.
I put them on the counter and Mel the optician calmly took a look at them. I explained what happened but that I did fix them a bit (bc I knew how) but that I couldn't fix the nosepads. He had me put them on then took them to his tool case and began to work on them.
Major Note: If you're having the nose pads on your glasses worked on, my suggestion to you is DON'T LOOK! You'll freak out at the things they have to do to adjust the nose pad arms! Haha! Aack (again)!
Once done, Mel gave them to me to try on. They were perfect! Usually it takes sometime for the frames to set into some grooves in your face so you might have to come in have them readjusted but so far so good and I have not had to get them adjusted since!
Believe me when I tell you it is not that easy to reach that perfect fit and most times if your nose is not symmetrical (like mine), it can take a few optician tries but that AMAZING guy Mel did it all in ONE try! WOW!
If you've ever worn glasses for some time, you know exactly what I mean ;)
Thanks for your sharing your frames adjustment expertise with me that day, Mel! HUGE relieved ((hugs))!!! :D You really absolutely ROCK bc now I can use those glasses and you made them feel comfy again!! :D
Quality, value, price, very capable customer service ability: This is one of the reasons why Costco has been my favorite optical store the past few years :) read more
