I really like this Costco. First, you can't beat the gas prices. I know, I know, mostly everyone else has spoken about the food, I'll get to that but their gas prices are routinely 20 to 30 cents less than the regular gas stations which is fantastic. Now to the food. I am a married PTA mom of two with a hectic schedule. Is ALWAYS helpful. We eat fruit and vegetables like our life depends on it. No matter how big the bag/container, it never goes bad. We actually save money buying large amounts at Costco as opposed to buying smaller amounts more often at the grocery stores. I've purchased beautiful sundresses and holiday dresses for my daughter and ultra cute outfits for my little guy all at great prices. Whenever it's my turn to host and/or provide a dish for an event, I can always count on Costco to have what I need. Their cakes are THE best! Hands down, Costco is a better deal in buying a birthday cake for anyone than Kroger. I can buy a sheet cake at Costco for under $20 with all the bells and whistles as opposed to a sheet cake at Kroger for $40 that is mediocre in design and effort at best. read more

If you like buying in bulk and you can make it here during the week between 10-2 you'll get great deals and keep your sanity. If you try to come on the weekend the 4 star rating drops to about a 1.5 because it's just too crowded. Expect to wait in line for 10-20 minutes no matter when you get here. I like their produce and buying huge containers of peanut butter, and I never make it out the door without a few cases of water and tons of paper products. I don't typically try the free samples but if you are into grazing they usually are offering a few nibbles. read more

During Covid19 era, it's scary to see how poorly this location has prepared and organized to handle safe shopping protocols. There are WAY too many customers in the building, no social distancing being enforced, and no directional aisles. I feel that it is unsafe for both the customer and employees. I don't go to Costco often, but I have a detailed review of their Optical Services below. Gas: I mainly come here for gas, which is always ~10+ cents cheaper per gallon. The hours for gas are extended compared to the normal warehouse hours, which is nice. Otherwise, the lines can get pretty crazy. Photo: Prices are pretty good compared to pharmacies. While I don't use this service a lot, I'd come back if I needed some prints. Prices: The prices aren't always less expensive per unit compared to the sale prices of other non-bulk stores. However, there is the convenience of having a decent price without having to watch for sales. Environment: Some of the customers can be rude, but I've never had a negative experience with an employee. Optical Services: Chase Eyecare is located within Costco, but you don't need to be a member to be seen there. The prices are decent if you don't have insurance. Dr. Chase genuinely take the time to get you the correct prescription. I had gotten my contact lens exam done there a few years ago, and while there was a problem with getting the trial pair in a timely manner (it wasn't in stock in the store), it wasn't directly the optometrist's or her employee's fault. Some of that work is performed at the eyecare store is performed by Costco employees. Initially when I spoke with the optometrist, she was defensive and blamed me. However she did realize my complaints were reasonable, and she later rectified the situation in a professional manner. I have spoken to many customer service people, and this rarely happens in customer service (even in financials where you would think they would have great training). I appreciate her ability to reflect and take some accountability - that's really hard for most people to do. Just bought an expensive Samsung 65" TV a few days before Christmas and the apps worked fine for 2 days. After that, the TV started experiencing connectivity issues. The reason is because the Samsung "smart" hub is having problems. We paid for a TV that works, not a third party that routes all our viewing through their servers, and at the same time ruining our Christmas shows because those Samsung servers have not worked properly for the past week. It seems as though Samsung isn't in any hurry to fix the issue. I called Costco to see if they worked with vendors to rectify customer issues, since this reflects poorly on them. I asked for a manager, but was directed to a "supervisor" named Casey. He didn't have a care in the world about a concerned customer, so I immediately asked for a manager and got Chris. Chris heard my complaint but sounded like he had better things to do. Thanks to Casey, we'll return the TV, start looking into a Sam's club membership and contact corporate in Seattle about our experience. We have always loved Costco and have been members for approximately 15+ years. read more

Do not buy tires at Costco--they do not honor the warranty. 3 years ago, we went to Costco to price some tires. We were price shopping and they bragged about how competitive they are with other tire dealers and how great their tire warranties are as well. They sold us on these Bridgestone tires that were warranty for 75k miles. After 40k miles, all four tires started showing early signs of wear to the point of not being safe to drive. We came in to see if they would honor the warranty they bragged about years ago. First they informed us that they can't honor the warranty because we failed to rotate the tires per the agreement. Well, the agreement didn't mention we can get them rotated elsewhere. The service rep agreed and informed us that we need to provide documentation (rotation service records). No problem, after an hr, we were able to provide them copies of the rotation service per agreement. You think that would satisfy the warranty? Nope! Now they mention that some treads were still above 2/32 of an inch and since they were above 2/32 of an inch, they can't honor the warranty per agreement. Well, some areas of the tires are definitely well below 2/32 of an inch. You think that would finally satisfy the warranty agreement. No...they inform us that they only check treads that are above 2/32 of an inch. Overall, these tires are not safe to drive and the service rep even agreed with us. Now that the winter season is approaching--I wouldn't want my worst enemy driving around with these tires. I've argued my point but all they can say is that there is nothing they can do which is a lie. The bottom line is that they do not want to honor the warranty because it's either too much of a hassle for them or they're too busy. I will not be going to Costco to purchase tires again and recommend family, friends and colleagues to stay away as well. read more

We frequent this Costco location on a regular basis and we love the food options. Their meats, fruits, and veggies are hard to beat. They offer a variety of organic and all natural food options, as well as organic cage-free eggs. The New York strip steaks and ribeye steaks are awesome and so is the grass fed ground beef. We also love the food counter where they have one of the best BBQ beef brisket sandwiches I have ever had. The pizza there is great too. We also get gas at this Costco, but it is usually a cluster because there are so many people trying to get gas all day long-especially on the weekend. Yep, I'm a member. Yep, there are things here that I can't find anywhere else, so I will continue to be a member. Do I enjoy shopping here? NOPE! Pros: they have a much greater selection of organic products than Sam's Club, particularly in the frozen section (produce, not so much). I love the bags of individually packaged frozen fish fillets - I know that extra plastic is bad, but sometimes you only need one fish. The spinach-mozzarella ravioli is my favorite food, and I've never seen the chicken teriyaki meatballs in another store. Super great prices on Stonyfield Farms yogurt. The hot pizza slices are HUGE and make for a very cheap lunch. And the gas is really cheap too. Cons: It is ALWAYS insanely crowded. The store itself is big enough so that I never really have trouble getting to what I want, but checking out is another story. We try to go when you'd think it wouldn't be that bad (i.e. Wednesday morning) but the lines are always totally out of control. There's really no place to even form lines so it's pretty close to chaos. But the Costco people love it that way, because they send the Business Membership sharks out to harass you into upgrading to a more expensive membership. You can't get away from them. I'm assuming you can't just punch them in the face, though I haven't tried that (yet). Then if you do survive checkout, you have to wait in another line to have some retiree check your cart against your receipt and make sure that you actually paid for all your granola bars, as if you could penetrate the sea of shopping carts without having to go past a cash register at some point. Beyond that, the parking lot is always a mess and the lines for gas are even more insane than the checkout lines inside. You can definitely find great deals here, and there are unique, fabulous products that I know I can't live without. The store is basically a necessary evil. If you've been living outside North America or under a rock for the past few years, Costco is a large membership-based warehouse that sells high quantity items, bulk groceries, electronics and other household items at discounted prices. A yearly membership runs about $30-50, and more than pays for itself. I came out of the Pacific Northwest where Costco set down its first roots and I've never been more than a few miles from one. Beware of entering with just "one purchase" in mind as the place is infamous for filling up carts and reminding you you really need those 600 thread count sheets, 4 lbs of chicken breasts, a big bottle of Bailey's, and a playset for the kid you don't need yet. Oh, and five pounds of oranges or two pounds of lettuce is a lot for a non-vegan single to go through, by the by. This is the nearest Costco to me, and the one I frequent the most due to proximity, availability of items, and general cleanliness. There's no such thing as a quiet parking lot here during business hours and I figure traversing territory the size of Rhode Island counts as my exercise for the day. Once inside, though, the madhouse tends to die down a bit due to the orderly procession of shoppers and carts. Food sample stands at lunch and dinner tend to get hectic, especially for the parents who like to let their children hover around until bratwurst or potstickers are done, yoghurt pops are served, and cocoa is made. I don't understand why they allow this general milling madness to occur as it snarls up trying to get through the frozen or deli sections in particular, but there's no accounting for behaviour when people are starving. Frustrating, to say the least, but it's part of the experience and you'll learn strategies to get around it. Prices are good and deals can be pretty outstanding. The house Kirkland brand seems to have scaled back in recent years, a big disappointment since scores for olive oil, electronics, and everything in between were great. You can't go wrong with a bit of price shopping. I've found most things priced competitively, though your mileage may vary with linens and household items on a smaller scale; check against Target, Walmart, and Meijers if you want a broader range of colours. Costco really shines when it comes to booze and fuel. Prices here are outstanding. Case in point: 1.75L bottle of Captain Morgan's spiced rum is usually $20 or thereabouts. $17 will net you a 750 mL (half the size) at most other places. Win! They carry a great variety of liquors and wines that include local vineyards, and in lieu of a Binny's superstore for alcohol, I'm usually here more often than not. Gas is typically $.20 cheaper than stations near me, but you *must* have a Costco card and they only accept debit. Costco doesn't take any credit cards but Amex, FYI. Other in-store benefits are great. Pharmacy and optometrists are the cheapest short of the net, prompt, and have a very nice selection. You get lifetime refills on the glasses cleaner, not sure if the contact solution also applies if you buy the lenses cases here. I have never had a problem with returns or getting special orders figured out. Another secret: they sell AMC movie theatre tickets in discounted bundles, as well as SpaFinder, theme park tickets, and more year-round. Great birthday gifts or Christmas presents, and you save a little to boot. Special note: the cafe is cheap, tasty, and filling. $1.50 for a polish sausage or a hot dog (a *big* hot dog) and a drink; $1.99 for pizza and you can buy a whole freshly made one for under $10. The line-ups on Fridays for them get crazy. I just wish they sold more low-calorie bread, but that's icing on the cake, eh? The clothing section for women has been pretty disappointing, all in all, but I miss the brands I had on the west coast, like BC Originals. Great prices for jeans, though. The last problem can be tracking down employees when they're busy. read more

I'm a big fan of Costco even though they aren't all created equal. This location happens to have a full liquor and beer selection. Where as the Livonia store only has wine. Aside from that, they seem to have all the same merch. Besides bulk groceries, their hardwares and electronics are always priced well and you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal on whatever it is you stumble onto while meandering the store if that's your style of shopping. I bought a Vizio 42" here a year or so ago and couldn't find a comparable deal at ABC, Best Buy, Meijer, Target or anywhere else for that matter. During the holidays it's worth a quick walk around the store to gather gift ideas and pick stocking stuffers up on the cheap. Their produce is great if you plan on using alot of it quick. The cheese isle is stocked well and their Kirkland cookies are fantastic. It's worth the membership fee if you have a few extra dollars to throw at it. read more

Go for the gas, but not the store. This place is great for gas during any hours that the store is not open (i.e. early or late hours). You can pull right up, not wait, and pump gas. The store on the other hand....is overpacked! I know - its a Costco! So tell me to get over it. but I have been to many Costco and this one is constantly over crowded. If you go during peak hours, you will literally have to wait for parking, get cut off by someone who NEEDS to try that tiny sample food, and wait forever to check out. I only go when I can get there during work hours since its not as busy. read more

I absolutely love Costco. Has everything you always wanted in a major quantity! Of course we all have been to many of them, but I am going to particularly tell you about this location. This location is EXTREMELY busy! Probably one of the busiest in metro Detroit. You can never find a parking spot, and the gas station usually has about 4-5 cars in each lane waiting. Kind of seem insane for a warehouse store. The lines at this place are always crazy. It seems that they are just always packed. I don't get the organization of the lines, well probably because there is none. The lines go back into the items for sale and then people have to squeeze by with their huge baskets. It is a nightmare for me. On the positive note I love all the samples (after 11am only.) They give you samples of stuff that I always wanted to try, but wouldn't buy such a large quantity if I wasn't sure I liked it. The fresh deli/meats area is amazing! They make the best cilantro lime shrimp I have ever had. Stop into Costco for all your needs, but make sure you have time to get through the crowd and the lines. This is the Costco closest to my house, and the one I frequent most often. I go to Costco on a frequent basis all sorts of items -- staples (laundry soap, dish soap, cat food, etc), meat, vitamins, toiletries, snacks, whatever. I have to admit that I am a Costco poster child. I went there just the other day and realized with a mix of embarrassment and pleasure that everything I wore that day was from Costco. Shoes, pants, shirt, vest.... even my Aveeno face moisturizer! So If you don't like Costco, stop reading here because I'm a huge fan. I love that they carry my "hippy-type foods," i.e., Chia seeds, Quinoa, Farrow, Q'ia, Almond milk, etc. In addition, they have a great pharmacy that carries over the counter products for the best price in town. And if they are low, they will order stuff for you. I got the preemie babies their polyvisol (vitamin drops) here and saved a boatload of $. I also buy Aquaphor here for $3 less than other stores. We go at least weekly for fresh produce which is reasonably priced. And I sometimes just pick up a premade meal to bake or just heat. Or I will grab a rotisserie chicken and after we finish the meat I make a delicious broth. My hubby recently asked if a pair of pants was still in style. I laughed and said as long as he accepts Costco as his guide, I can give advice. That's the only place I can go shopping these days, so it's my barometer :) What can I say? I'm partial to the shopping carts that can hold two kids up front. Makes life a lot easier. read more

I've been a loyal Costco customer for years and today I went to the photo department and made my purchase and when I was exiting there were two employees standing and checking receipts. I help up my receipt and looked at each one like where do I go? The guy on the left said in a bored voice, "have a nice day. You don't have to wave it." After I walked by. You don't have to be a dick either. It was confusing on where to go when coming from the photo counter and that could make a person feel dumb with that comment. Bad customer service. I like Costco, but I don't love it. The $55 cost for membership is a decent price. I fill up the gas tank every 2 weeks, so what I save in gas I can easily pay for the membership. I do not buy a lot of good from Costco - sugar, sardines, the occasional promotional food item they are trying to hoc. When the coupon comes out, I usually buy a Tide and toilet paper and every four years I buy tires for my car. What are the pros and cons of Costco: Pros: Cheaper gas (not cheap, but "cheap" is a relative and subjective word) Good return policy Good prescription prices (no membership needed) Nice frames in optical dept. As I'm shopping with my niece and her mother we wait for Lucy to serve the rest of the cake. She didn't tell us what it was as my sister asked, "what type of cake is it?". She then says cheesecake. I pick up a sample as my niece ask if she can try it. She gets mad and shouts can you wait until I serve it, as another customer picks up a sample too. I didn't know that the two trays were for making then serving as they were the same looking tray. She looks at me when she was done while changing trays and shouts, "THAT'S HOW WE DO IT." Wow! I was very offended as I've been a member but rarely get samples and usually shop when I host parties. Please hire happier people that want to be in hospitality as it's not for everyone. Especially Lucy. Won't be getting the cake especially after her rude remarks. I. Love. This. Store. I mean, I love it. You can get almost anything here - clothes (and nice ones, too!), food, diamonds, cars, kitchen & other household appliances... I could go on and on. And their prices are absolutely fantastic. PLUS they offer coupons every once in a while, which makes me even happier - coupons on top of already great prices!?! What could be better? The fruit & veggie selection at Costco is great too, and their produce prices are not even comparable to other grocery stores. I save a lot of money buying my produce here. I also buy my eyeglasses here, last time I bought glasses I ended up with three frames, and I love all of them. And I paid about what I'd pay for one pair of name brand frames at an optical store. (By the way, I did get name brand frames at Costco - Converse) On my way out of Costco, I'll often grab a frozen yogurt - either the swirl or the one with berries. Both yummy. And then I'll head to their gas station and fill up, as their price per gallon (as another reviewer mentioned) is usually about 20 cents cheaper than the gas station up the street. I'm giving this 5 stars to point out all the complainers who are somehow shocked Costco is busy and the gas station has lines. The prices are good and people love a value. I love costco! Best place to get a deal. The wine selection here is great and now they have a craft beer sections as well. The reason for the lack of a star is that their dinner food to eat in store usually is not on par. They are good half the time other times the food is not hot. read more

I've been a Costco Member for years and really kept renewing my membership mainly for the gas and occassional in store purchase. As it neared time to purchase new tires this year, I decided to take a look at what Costco had to offer. After taking a look on their website, I realized that the particular tire I wanted wasn't in stock and called to confirm. I placed my order and was pleasantly surprised with the all inclusive pre-paid ordering - this means no hassle for extra add-ons at the store. To my delight, a $70 coupon was tacked on at the end. I expected to wait 5-10 business days for delivery. However, with Costco's up to the moment emails, the tires I ordered on Friday were in and installed on my vehicle Wednesday evening. To top off the speedy ordering process I was greatly pleasantly over the phone and in person. And when I showed up at 7:00pm, I was out the door and on the road with my new tires by 7:30pm. Needless to say, I won't be shopping anywhere else for tires if I can help it in the future. And yes, all the rotations, balancing, checks, are included too for their lifetime:-) read more

I love Costco. My only complaint is the annoying sales pitch that I usually receive at the checkout. If they want people to upgrade to an Executive Membership, there are plenty of less annoying ways to go about it that having an employee roam around the checkout area and add more confusion to an already chaotic area. It is beyond annoying. Customers are loading their own carts at the checkout while that employee roams around giving people an unsolicited sales pitch. That's just wrong. read more

It's an overwhelming store by design so it would feel better if there weren't Dollies, hi Los and lots of oddly placed inventory. Also pet supplies are terrible. Non-clumping cat litter? Who uses that? Only 2 types of food--poor selection. Otherwise ok. Line for the hot food was quick. read more

Tires: Pretty good prices and quality, but you'll never get the services they're touting. They're always completely overwhelmed so every time you call for something like a tire rotation they'll tell you they're not excepting any more cars today, or there's a three hour wait. Who has three hours to wait for a tire rotation? You're better off spending some more money and going somewhere that you can actually get into. read more

Costco is almost the same from store to store. The difference for me is the one in Madison Heights doesn't care to keep the electric handicap carts in repair and charged. I'm not even sure how many they have. The last two times I have been there there were none available, so I've stopped trying to stop there. I go instead to the one out in Bloomfield Twp. because they always keep them charged and in good repair. I can only speculate it is either something the manager approves and supports or feels is an expense that doesn't pay for itself. A lot of people feel they shouldn't even be available, and I've had strangers make rude comments and ask if I really need it. The answer is yes. I'm arthritic and have totally shot knees. We have a decent income and we buy all the groceries and things any normal household does. But I can't walk all around a huge store to do so. I'm doing good to walk from the parking to the cart with a cane. read more
