Is Costco trendy? I just know Yelp wants to ask me that question. And it sure seems like it. They're like the Target of big box wholesalers or something. Sure they've got neat stuff, I guess, but I'm trying to figure out why I should rate them any higher than the Sam's Club in town. They both have the same concept, just with different names on their stuff. There are things you can find here that you can't at the other one, and vice versa. Sam's has the best tortilla chips, Costco has those delectable coconut rolls. Sam's has better canned chicken (weird flex, I know), Costco has a better chilled room for their fruit. And they both suck at the keeping cracker cut cheese from going bad before the date on the package. There's the regular old concession stand past the checkouts where you'll wait in a long line for a long time. There's the telecomm salespeople waiting to harass you as you come in the door. And as with all wholesalers, I just can't stand the sheer volume of stuff they sell. I think it all just leads to greater waste. read more

Costco of Lubbock, TX, is never as busy as the Costcos I used to frequent in Southern California. Love it! (I chuckle real hard when I hear those Texas accents complain that "dang, it's pretty busy today.") Parking is easy. I always snag a spot relatively close to the entrance and a return cart receptical. People are rude everywhere you go, but here most of the customers still have their manners and make eye contact with you. Love that too. The gas station has the shortest lines of any Costco Gas Station I've ever seen. Did I mention their prices are the cheapest too? Most things I have found to be in stock. I don't come here for groceries, though, because I live 105 miles away. That'll change once I have a vehicle large enough for a large ice chest. That being said, they have employees who do not know where certain items are because "they don't work in that department." Twice this has happened. And I think to myself, "Okay, so whip out that walkie talkie and find out because obviously I came to you as a last resort." I noticed a big change from November 2022 to December 2022. In November they still had the plexiglass barrier at the checkout stands. In December, those suckers were removed. Not even sure why they had 'em because I always have to have folks repeat themselves. They don't seem to protect you much from illnesses (that you shouldn't be shopping with anyway) any better than those cloth face masks. So, thanks, Costco Lubbock. See ya' next road trip. read more

My mother just had a procedure done so she couldn't go in and asked me to run in with her card ( I am on the account) and was told I would have to get another card before I would be allowed in. We have been a members since they opened; we will not be renewing my membership. The horrible person at the front made it a whole lot easier to just go down the street to Sam's or just shop online with Amazon. read more

The self checkout is a joke, the employees can't even get it to work correctly. We had 15 items and it took 10 minutes to checkout once we started scanning items. We will not go back through self checkout as it is not self checkout anymore. read more

Regardless of any town or state I'm in, Costco, is always consistent. I love that they are selling items that are non-GMO and certified organic!! How many American companies can say they support NO Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) products??? GMOs are plant or meat products that have had their DNA altered in a laboratory by genes from other plants, animals, viruses or bacteria. Much of the larger farming communities around Lubbock grow nothing but GMO's. (Soy, corn, and cotton). They rotate between cotton and soy. It can be noted by all the signs at the end of each row out in the fields on the main highways. This store was packed with customers buying non-GMO products. I honestly don't think customers know they are doing their bodies a favor by choosing certified organic and non-GMO products. Gotta love the irony!! read more

Costco is a great warehouse store. Prices are a major benefit, the employees are nice, the all beef hot dogs at the snack bar are a family favorite. Sometimes they don't carry the same selection from month to month. Free samples on Saturdays help me to choose products without buyer's regret on a large tub of something. All employees have always been professional and helpful. No complaints at all, however, there was a sales rep selling the Infinity PR Pro that changed a 5 star rating. I purchased it and when I got it home, one of the batteries wasn't working. It shows full charge but will not operate the massage device. I spoke with the rep and was told it couldn't happen. "Well I can prove it did!" Super dissatisfied Costco allows people like that to sell in their stores. I'll keep going but will shut down anyone trying to sell anything. Not to bad. The place has good merchandise and the staff is super friendly for it being such a busy store. Prices are bit high, but I guess you should expect that when you're buying in bulk. Theres a huge parking lot so don't worry about not finding a spot. You are required to wear masks inside the facility which is good for everything going on right now. It's very clean and sanitary inside as well, and the restrooms are well taken care of. read more

I most likely won't be back to the lubbock store. I was there today checking out when I was stopped by a short hispanic woman named Edna I think, asking random questions about my account like am I an "executive member" and what not. The only crazy thing was she didn't harass anyone before or after me about this. She took our card over to a computer and started checking it or something, but didn't check anyone else's card or harass them. I get I was the only black person in the store but if you're going to racially profile at least make it seem like you're doing your job instead of picking and choosing who to harass. Even when she called the manager over saying we had the "wrong card" because it's old, you could even tell he was annoyed with her. I guess racism and discrimination is still alive and well at this lubbock location. DEFINITELY WON'T SUPPORT A RACIST BUSINESS! read more

I'm a fan. And everyone in my life knows I love Costco. Like, I even got my health insurance from Costco because I'm so into it. This Costco is amazing. My husband and I have bought all-in to Costco being in Lubbock and at least one of us is there once a week. Don't be deterred by a membership-based store or if you have passionate feelings/hatred toward the Sam's in town. This is the membership store you deserve to belong to. This one is worth it. It's just my husband and I, but we opted in to the Executive membership plan at $110/year. We also have the Costco American Express card. One of the greatest deals with this is that our cash back from Costco purchases and everywhere else adds up and PAYS FOR our membership annually - with hundreds of dollars in Costco cash that can also apply to our normal Costco expenses. I hate the whole try-to-get-you-sign-up-for-credit-card spiel, but this card and membership level are totally worth it. Our Costco has some GREAT food, housewares, and men's sections. The women's is a bit lacking, or maybe geared toward 40+ women, but can have some great finds! 80% of our food and 75% of my husband's wardrobe comes from this amazing store. Hungry? Eat at the snack bar. On more than one occasion, I've asked my husband if we could go to Costco solely to eat their cafe food. The hot dog is a classic (along with the pizza), but my favorites are the turkey sandwich and the bbq sandwich. They are damn good. And I'm being serious. Staff of this Costco have been nothing but kind and helpful in every department. Their customer service is amazing, and it makes me value shopping at this location even more! Just went for an hour and a half, and left very full from the plethora of free samples to eat. Well-organized and decent prices. I am a Sam's club member, and just wanted to see how Costco was. Some things are cheaper but there seems to be slightly more options. There are workers everywhere! So many of them that they don't know where to stand. The younger ones seem kind of rude as in unfriendly. My main gripe is that they only accept AmEx as their major CC tender. read more

Stopped in here to pick up some supplies while on a business trip. I was happy to find a Costco right near the hotel as that saved me the hassle of trying to find a grocery store in an area with which I am not familiar. This one is set up exactly the same as the one back home (I've found some that are the mirror image) so it made finding the supplies easy. It is exceptionally clean and there is plenty of room between the aisles to easily navigate with the large shopping carts...even two abreast. The entire store seemed to be well stocked and had a large selection. As with any Costco, there are minor differences in what is available, so I didn't find the exact supplies I wanted, but found good alternatives. The associates were very helpful and polite. In fact, the cashier noticed the sad state of my card and mentioned I could quickly get a new one issued at Customer Service. There was no wait at all and the associate was quick in managing my request. Were I to live in this area, I would definitely frequent it for my monthly shopping. read more

I love Cosco. They treat you well and everything is clean. I like the 1.50 hotdogs and getting a rotisserie chicken for under five bucks. All I keep getting is horrible service here. They seem to be very rigid on minor issues - 2 recent examples: my wife left her purse in the car, so she didn't have her card. While waiting in line I went to the restroom, she got to check out counter and they made her wait until I got back to prove I was there before they would begin check out. Once we went in with my parents, and they stopped my dad and made him show his card even though I had shown mine and we were all walking together. Since I got tired of the drama, I let my membership lapse. So my mother asks my wife to meet her there just to hang out while shopping. Wife gets there first, and they tell her she can't wait inside without a card, she and my two young sons have to wait outside the front door, in 96 degree weather. Sam's is so much more customer focused, I don't mind paying a bit extra over there... Treat me like a customer, not an inmate :) read more

We finally bit the bullet and joined Costco. The store itself is clean, and exactly what you would expect from a warehouse store. Lots of stuff in massive quantities! (Make a list and stick to it or you will blow waaay more than you had planned on spending!) We love the veggies and fruits, pet foods and milk. Several products will have instant coupons on them thru out the store, which is nice, as well. The employees are a mix. We have had some that are fantastic, while others seem to be going thru the motions. The Food Court is nice, but we hate Pepsi products...and that is all they have available in the fountain drinks. Overall, the cost of membership seems worth it. read more

I really appreciate Costco and the wonderful employees there! If you're old enough to remember Cheers, Costco is that place for me. I am there two or three times a week, and many of the people are like friends. From the sweet people that greet you on your way in, to the samplers, to the cashiers who smile at my kids and draw nice kitty cats on my receipt for them, to the people who check us out, it is a PLEASURE to shop at Costco. Let's not overlook Mr. Quincy, because - let's face it- he puts a smile on your face even when you don't feel like smiling, and probably sells more products just because of who he is and not necessarily what he's sampling. If I had a complaint it would be that too often I find a product I love and then it's gone. We are big organic shoppers, so seeing those items go away is hard. Going to Costco isn't a "grocery run" or an "errand," it's a trip into a magical kingdom of food, home goods, discount prescriptions, and samples. If you're still trying to do your grocery shopping at Sam's Club, my condolences to you. As most people know, the Kirkland Signature brand sold at Costco is usually produced in the same factories that produce name brand goods. Kirkland jeans? Levis. Kirkland coffee? Starbucks. The list goes on. If you get the executive membership it pays for itself with the 2% cash back. Don't go if you have plans for the afternoon, or if you have less than $200 to spend. WAY better than Sam's Club! It's nearly empty since not many people have memberships yet so you can get in and out in a hurry plus there's someone to load the items, ring them up, and put them in your cart along with loading them in your car. The gas is at least 12 cents cheaper than anywhere in town. They have spectacular food and great prices. As far as comparing it to Sam's... If you want to go to Walmart but want to pay more and get bigger quantities, go to Sam's. If you want high quality food that Walmart doesn't sell and at better prices, go to Costco. It's a much needed breath of fresh air in Lubbock. read more
