I'm surprised at the lower reviews of this place, as we had a tasty lunch at Costa Real recently! Their menu is extensive, as they offer Salvadoran, Honduran, and Mexican fare. We ordered: +a pollo taco with a side of onions; opted for their homemade tortilla; wasn't really a fan of the chicken, as it could have been more flavorful; generous portions, though +carne asada tacos with a side of onions; opted for their homemade tortilla; the carne asada was super flavorful and very tasty; adding the house hot sauce was delicious! +a Carne Asada de Res - grilled beef with rice, beans, and 2 tortillas; the hubs enjoyed this dish, as it was a great portion and very tasty; I absolutely loved their beans and would probably order a whole bowl of this! +and, an horchata - this was refreshing and more on the thin side You also receive a complimentary basket of crispy tortilla chips with salsa. Service was very friendly, kind, and attentive - we were greeted warmly and checked in throughout our dining experience. There's ample seating inside; there are also large monitors mounted around the dining space so you can catch the current running games. Those homemade tortillas are out of this world. Both the beef tacos and the carne asada were delicious, and we had tasted both. And you can tell you're in a local Latino eatery by the decor and music. Having everyone in the place stare at us for no apparent reason was quite strange, so I deducted a star. It's not very welcoming when the staff keeps staring at us, then turns to each other and laughs. I mean, I get that we aren't from any Latin American countries, but still! And, not only that, but the little number of guests there were, made the situation much more unpleasant when they kept ogling at my wife. Additionally, we wished to place an additional order for meal, dessert, and beverages; however, the waitress continuously ignored us in favor of the next seated party. We waited 20 minutes after finishing our meal, then literally walked to the counter, called the server so we can pay and get out. Even though the food is delicious, I won't be returning. Had dinner here this evening - another Mexican/Latin American joint in Manassas. It's located in a retail complex right off of Business Route 234 - the same complex as the McKay's Used Books. Walked in about 7:00 pm or so - I noted immediately that I was the sole Caucasian in the place - the rest of the place were Latin Americans of various vintages - I always take this as a good sign that the locals like the place. I was seated immediately and presented with a menu. I was hungering for a beef Burrito - so I ordered that with a side of Guacamole, a glass of water with lime, and then a bit later - a Corona Beer. The menu contains Salvadorian and Mexican items. My first two servers spoke poor or little English - so they brought a third over who spoke clear English. I was kind of expecting the possibility of this occurring - so I was unphased. While I was waiting I noted there were several flat screen HD displays, plus a large projector screen - all displaying a soccer game being. And there was a Jukebox - playing Latina music a bit to loud. First a small basket of chips were brought out with a side of salsa - not bad salsa - but not spicy enough for me. I added some of the Habanero sauce on the table to the salsa - the brand is "El Yucateco Chile Habanero." Made the salsa nice and spicy! The food came out in about 10 minutes. The Burrito comes with a side of rice, a small iceberg lettuce salad, and something similar to refried beans - although the consistency was thinner than what I am accustomed. The Burrito had jack cheese melted over the top of it. The rice was kind of plain on its own - so I dumped the refried beans mixture into the rice and then dosed it with the Habanero sauce. Now it's good! The steak in the Burrito was very tender and tasty. I devoured it in no time flat. The Beer was well - Corona - nice and cold and served with a lIme. One thing I noted while I was there that I thought was bit odd - was that all the servers were women - and all of the folks patronizing the place were guys - there was not a single woman patron in the place. The short snapshot of my time there is probably not representative of the place overall - but I still found it odd. Seemed like a lot of the guys were flirting with the waitresses. Cons: - Jukebox and soccer game were way to loud I would come back here again - to try some of the other menu items. read more

Does Costa Real have the most unsurpassed Tamales in NOVA? They get my vote! Why? Light on the Masa; heavy on the fillings. Tamales de Gallina For those unfamiliar with this dish, Tamales de Gallina is Masa(Corn based dough) stuffed with chicken and any mishmash of cheeses/fruits/vegetables to suit his/her taste. How Costa Real makes them? They fill their tamales with chicken/potatoes/green beans. It also comes with tomato sauce/cabbage. Atmosphere: Having visited this place numerous trips---always lone wolf(American) in these types of businesses---the treatment I've received from both staff/customers has been mixed. Some experiences wonderful; other times lukewarm/less enthused(e.g. long stares, rolling eyes, etc...) with the problema of dealing with an Americano. Love this place. So convenient right next to the laundromat for me especially. The baleadas and pupusas are so good I get them every single time I'm in the area. Cute little bar and area, very clean. The staff is super polite. I don't speak much Spanish at all and they were very patient with me. Always getting refills immediately and make great conversation :)) great experience. We ordered from GrubHub for a birthday dinner for my boyfriend. The food was delicious, and the best part was that it was so HOT! The way that Costa Real packaged their food was perfect for keeping things warm on their way to be delivered. The beans were so tasty, and the plantains were cooked to perfection. They were so hot still, that it burned my mouth when I bit into it. I love that. I'll definitely reorder again. Thank you guys for working so hard during this whole pandemic. We were so thankful that the staff comes to work, it allows us to order dinner once in a while. It's a little bit of normalcy in a very abnormal world. Great flavor and presentation of the plates! To the owner please have some education in serving the customers your waitress are terrible I have a respectful experience in hospitality. I went to your restaurant one afternoon to meeting with my boyfriend and hes boss and as soon i came to the door the lady at front of the bar says "what you want"? And that's not welcoming at all then the waitresses are not in uniform and they are really rude asking me if i want to order somthing first she need her tip and the other girl is gonna take my order". The other girl ask me "are you gonna eat" while putting her armpits in my face because she was getting the empty coffe mug from my boyfriend. I give you 4 stars because of the excellent food. If you want to teach your waitress hospitality service I will be glad to teach your staff. And put uniforms is not a cheap cantina. read more

Food is delicious but I will never dine here again. A few months ago I stopped in for take out and was impressed with the food. I recently moved from Austin, Texas and have been trying the local Latin restaurants to find my favorites. Unfortunately, as good as the food is, after dining here tonight I will not return. Their staff is VERY poorly trained. Although light skinned and blonde I am half mexican and had no problems understanding the menu or waitresses however, one waitress felt the need to condescend me throughout the meal. The other waitress clearly had very poor english. For an appetizer, I ordered two different pupasas, directly from the menu, as is, no special requests, yet for some reason she had to come back three times to clarify. For the entree, I ordered beef fajitas that the menu said came with crema y guacamole pero when they brought out the meal they did not bring either. I asked for it and that somehow set off a chain of questions about did I want a side of both, a side of just one, just a little bit or a lot, etc.. I was halfway through the meal before they finally brought it and then they charged $1.50 for each 'side'. Again, the menu said it came with the fajitas. Also, the takeout leftovers were poorly packed and the atmosphere was lousy, blaring music and waitresses that carry on with personal conversations while draping their arms over your booth. Whatever. I tipped 17%, left and will never be back. Good food should come judgement and racism free. read more

I thought I was in a meat market bar. I loved how they cook the liver. However, tonight the waitress asked us; what we were going to eat, we asked for a quick moment to decide. Well a quick moment was enough for her to go back and sit with two men that were drinking, and she was most interesting in what they have to say. She didn't even bring the chip and salsa to the table. We left and we promised no to come back again. If you want a Hooker's bar get a license and run a gentleman club but no need to be in the food business. read more

I went with 4 of my co-works and everyone enjoyed their food. I was glad that we brought a translator with us but for the most part the waitress did an excellent job. I had a beef enchilada which was different than any other I have had. it was good but not as hot as I would have liked it but I think it was meant to be that way, it was almost like a beef salad on two fried tortillas. I can't wait to go back and try out the rest of their menu!!! read more

This place is NOT for a quiet night out with the family or with your first date unless you were born in Central America and understand its current culture. It's décor and furniture are not new but focuses on spectator Soccer and large crowds do gather here to watch on the multiple TVS provided. On some nights they feature LOUD latin music and karaoke. You may not be treated like a king and queen but the staff is friendly, they serve cold beer, and the food is very good. This place is geared towards Latino customers who like traditional central American food, music, and culture. In fact, many employees don't speak English. I have travelled to central America and this place is like low to middle budget places there. So if you want traditional central American food served in a real-world atmosphere and with a Latino culture flavor then this is the place for you. read more
