Needed to nosh, and when you need a little pick me up, you pop into Costa. They have good coffee. We picked up a Flat white here, which is pretty much rich dark coffee with heated cream. It was damned tasty. read more

Totally superb and very highly recommended!! Don't trail round looking for nice cafes in Dumfries…read morebecause this is the best one! The 'Mission Statement' on the wall is, "Provide and serve healthy wholesome food in a warm and inviting atmosphere" and they do that in spades. It's a comfortable cafe with delightful decor and colours - everything is clean including the brightly patterned tablecloths; the food is excellent and very good value (better than any we've found in Dumfries and we've tried out several places over the last few years). There's a great breakfast menu, snacks of many kinds, soup and fresh bread, sandwiches, toasties, panini, rolls, baguettes, vegetarian choices and so much more. I had a baked potato and I was surprised and delighted that it was a good size and heaped with cheese and coleslaw (so often these days you get a small potato with hardly any filling!) It also arrived with an eye-catching fresh salad which included slices of orange and tortilla chips - not bad at all these days for only £5.25! My husband had a scrambled egg roll which he said was lovely - fresh and delicious and only £2.25 (where else would you find that?) There is a huge choice of drinks both hot and cold; good teas and coffees, hot chocolate and more. The owner is very pleasant and helpful as was the lady who brought our meals to the table. We'll definitely go straight there the next time we're in Dumfries!

Still loving everything about this coffee shop! If I were local, this would be my go-to haunt (as…read moreit is, whenever I'm in Edinburgh, I take the train just to come here and then walk the beach). The large interior has an industrial vibe while still feeling warm and welcoming, the courtyard outside is a perfect place to enjoy some sunshine (the upstairs is only open on the weekend). Get a cold brew or an iced latte or an iced Americano with oat milk - it's so good! They also have a few bakery items, including a vegan banana bread that is DELICIOUS (one of the best I've ever had). It's a thick, moist slab loaded with nuts and dried cranberries maybe? There's just something "more" to it that makes it special. I recently bought beans (flavor notes of "jammy" and "honey"; it's SO GOOD), and it seems like I can reuse the canister for a discounted refill the next time I'm here! I believe they even grind them if you want. They also have some really cool merch (tote bags [I own], beanies, shirts, etc). #CoffeeAndSocialSolidarity

We came to North Berwick from Edinburgh for the day via a very easy 30 min train ride. Steampunk is located in the back of a building on the main street of North Berwick. It is sparsely decorated but the theme seems to be related to bicycles. We stopped in for midday iced lattes and a snack. The lattes were good and I appreciate their to go cups and straws are all paper based. The granola bar we grabbed did not impress me at face value but wow was it delicious. Like chewy granola with some cinnamon added in. It was the perfect sweet pairing to the latte. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here.

The iced latte is standard; okay. Their almond croissant was crazy sweet, the type that makes your stomach a bit sick. It's a nice little place on Moffat High Street with nice traditional decor (feels a little…read moreParisian!) good coffee and plenty of seating. I would visit again. It has working wifi and the staff are pleasant. There's at least one table with a plug socket by it. It's only a 3 star review because of food quality, price and ambience. Quality: The scone came with squirty cream and jam in little plastic pots like at a hotel breakfast. Not terrible, but not really what you'd hope for. Soup was pleasant though not exceptional, served with a very cheap white roll which was fresh but not nice. Should just underline - it's proper coffee and well made, so if that's what you're after this is a great place. Price: The traditional breakfast is £8.90! Including coffee, but still. Jacket with cheese and beans £6.50. Toasties all over £4.50. So, not outrageous but for the quality not great. Finally, ambience: the radio in the kitchen is playing bad rock music from Radio 1 coupled with the ranting of a day time DJ and jingles. It is audible throughout the cafe, the staff chatting behind the counter the only other noise. The fridges hum and some of the tables have got staff working at them preparing for tomorrow I guess (we're here latish in the day). It's not outrageous, but it makes it distinctly less homely to be here. So overall, somewhere that is perfectly passable and definitely not bad, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to spend time. With a few tweaks or maybe on a different day might be much better. Didn't try the cakes but there's a fine selection and they cook really good.
