However, this place wasn't all that bad, though it is more like one of those cafes that you tend to find in the city than elsewhere (though you do find some pretty good ones in the city). It was absolutely chock full of very happy looking customers and there was a whole lovely new back room that I'm pretty sure wasn't there last time I was. The service was speedy despite the long queue and the staff friendly despite how busy they clearly were. The decor is lovely, my favourite elements being the giant chandelier and the vintage piano. The atmosphere was really pleasant; the overall vibe of the place manages to convey cool classiness and warmth at the same time. Although the bread of the mozzarella and chorizo panino I ordered was a little floppy and the chorizo a bit a bit too chewy it was tasty nevertheless and the tea I ordered was just right (and with me being such a tea fan you don't often hear me say that!). The cakes looked delicious as well...wish I'd had room for a slice! Will definitely be saving space for the chocolate and Guiness next time! I'm very glad I've rediscovered this hidden gem above Lord Street and will definitely not be leaving so long till my next visit this time.

At the 'other end' of the street, it felt like a long walk to get there (especially with a growing hunger after a few drinks the night before) but as soon as we found it we knew we'd made the right choice. The location almost feels like a cul-de-sac, with a dog grooming salon next door and plenty of prams being pushed past. This meant it was a more relaxed vibe than elsewhere, and we easily got a table for two in the sunny window. There is a mezzanine level also, but no table service, which is worth considering if you or someone in your party struggles with stairs. The menu is on a blackboard, with changing specials, and plenty of proper coffee and tea on offer. Orders are taken at the small bar and processed in the same spot, meaning service isn't the quickest, but we were in no rush and everything was done with a smile. I went simple with a cheese and ham croissant, served warm, and a cup of tea. Josh's sandwich was much more substantial and it's fair to say I had food envy; mixed beans, peppers and aubergine on fresh wholemeal bread. Needless to say, with this delicious food and sunny window spot, we didn't really want to move! In no rush, we also shared a chocolate chip shortbread as we finished our drinks. Service with a smile is the expression that comes to mind when I think of Love Coffee. You always get a warm welcome from the staff and the fact that you can sit inside instead of having to take your purchases to the food hall means you get a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of Birkenhead shoppers rushing about. The food was excellent and each plate came with a small garnish of salad. The drinks were great, a nice flavour to the coffee and good strength too. They also have a very good range of sandwiches, baguettes and cakes. Love Coffee are also located at Cheshire Oaks and Ellesmere Port and also have a loyalty card where your 6th & 12th drink is free. Told the server on the end our order was wrong but didn't know what to do with us. LOL. Just accepted everything they served without demanding to correct the mistakes. Even though it is only a stone's throw from Liverpool One it is still a lovely place to get out of the hectic city centre shopping crowds and just take things at your own pace for a little while. It is an excellent place to read a book, chat to a friend, listen to your MP3 player, or just enjoy the silence and calm of the surroundings. The cafe adjoining the garden is an excellent place. Get yourself a pot of tea and a slice of chocolate cake, and just take a few minutes to relax and take in the surrounding architecture of the Bluecoat Gardens.

This place does everything you would expect with your usual range of different coffees as well as some sandwiches cakes and other such treats to accompany your drink. I always imagine this place to be a kind of Starbucks but with a better view and less pretentiousness as a whole. The staff here are good enough and always seem to be pleasant and they never rush you to leave meaning that you could spend hours reading books and drinking coffee in relative peace and harmony. The prices are what you would expect from a dock side coffee shop but no one visits this area and expects to pay low prices. On the whole a solid and relaxing coffee shop with good drinks and a great ambience.
