I remember Jacci called me because I had been waiting for the new shop to open and I need a hair cut desperately. The guys working inside told her that a "big dark haired guy" was spying between the paper covered windows, I guess she told them "Oh that's only Greg, he must need a haircut". So Jacci offered to cut my hair (even though the shop was not open) and with that I became Jacci's first customer in her new shop, unofficially of course. Well her we are 2012 and Jacci is still cutting my hair and when it came time for my 2 year old daughter's first hair cut there was no place else to go. Anyway, I walked in and only had to wait about 5 minutes for service. The stylist, Giselia(sp?), who helped me was really friendly and nice, and gave me the best haircut I've had in ages. When I asked her about the specific hair care product I was interested in she told me all about it, even going so far as to say she loved it so much that she has multiple bottles of it at her home, but she didn't pressure my to buy it at the end like most places do. She saved me the trouble of a shampoo when I asked to skip it, and worked to help me find a slightly updated hairstyle from the one I've been stuck on for a few years. I love that she didn't talk my ear off, (I'm not much of a talker, and have had bad haircuts because the stylist was paying too much attention to the conversation and not enough to the haircut!) but we found a some things in common and had a nice conversation about our interests. She was very friendly. The shop was clean and all of the stylists seemed to really be enjoying their clients. Also, I liked that the employees all seemed to genuinely like each other. And seriously about my haircut. Best one I've had in years! I've been looking for a friendly and reliable hair salon in MKE for a year, and I'm so excited I found one! So that's really no good for having a regular stylist. The Cutting Group is perfect for me because I can get a good quality haircut without the commitment of regular salon visits. I previously went to the Farwell location since I lived downtown, but I've recently started going to the Whitefish Bay salon. They've recently added call-ahead scheduling, meaning you can call in advance to add your name to the waitlist. This is fantastic, as it's not unusual to walk in and find out there's a two-hour wait. So to clarify -- you cannot call ahead to make an appointment. But you can at least call ahead and get a quoted time to arrive, thereby sparing you the need to wander through WFB for an extended time until a stylist is available. The stylists here are always friendly and provide great cuts. Due to how the Cutting Group works, with stylists rotating among locations and over to Beauty salon, I'm not sure I've ever had the same stylist twice. But like I said, I'm a non-committal haircut person, so for me that's perfect. Between the flexibility The Cutting Group affords and the great prices ($25 - $22 if you're on the email list), this will be my go-to spot for the foreseeable future.

And as of lately the front desk has been way better at answering calls, or getting back to voicemails. It is a school with learning students, but by no means are you really a guinea pig. Theres always an experienced professional second opinion, and supervision. Services do take a little bit longer so if you're in a rush, or impatient this ain't the place for you. But if you like being submerged and also appreciate learning things along the way about your hair, you can tell the students are happy to answer with what they know. The price point is so affordable, and you leave feeling pampered because each service comes with a wash and blow dry/style. It's also conveniently located near a shopping strip, which includes places like TJ-Maxx, Old navy, Nordstrom Rack, j-crew and Whole Foods. Kaylee seems very confident and knowledgeable in coloring, and also has such a positive attitude. It's relatively a busy space, mixed crowd.

If any on you have an angled, layered bob, you may know how hard it us to find someone who knows how to do that cut in a way that doesn't make you look like Kate Gossling circa 2004. I think what Robin does might be what is called a precision cut (at least it's what I imagine that to mean!). Robin is drawing hair up and cutting at all of these purposeful angles so it all falls together just right. That's different than other places that cut a straight line on the nape if the neck, leave it a little longer in the front, and call it a day. I get compliments from other women (strangers!) on my cut pretty regularly. And on top if that, she's a sweet person and easy to talk to. Top notch cut and reasonable prices. For whomever left a review saying staff is rude, I can't even imagine that. I've been seeing Robin a few years and have never seen any if the employees there being anything other than kind and accommodating. There's another stylist there often when I'm in for my appointment and she always has something nice to say. She came up and said hi to me when I saw her out at a restaurant and was just lovely to my family. Everybody has to find the right stylist for them, and it takes time.
