We had an excellent time on our trip to the Cosmosphere with our 7-year old daughter. The Dr. Goddard's Lab show is great for kids and adults. Lots of fun fire and experiments to keep the kids entertained and a lot of new information for the adults. We also watched the planetarium show. This was fun. There is a concession stand where we got some popcorn, drinks and candy. The flight simulator is definitely fun too. If you go, sitting in the front row is a must. It's worth waiting if you can get a front row seat. All-around good time! :) read more

Cosmosphere kind of makes me want to live in Hutchinson, so that I could send my children to their space summer camp! They have day camps and overnight camps that immerse kids in the space experience, and they're solving problems, landing on the Moon, building settlements, and doing all kinds of STEM stuff. But even if you don't live in the area, if you do have kids with you when you visit Cosmosphere, be sure to visit the CosmoKids area, where there's lots of things to see, touch and explore. This STEM-focused area just for kids makes all of this space info accessible to little people. It was pretty cool seeing the Apollo 13 command module, lunar module, rockets, and all of the displays that outline humankind's journeys into outer space. They have a significant collection of space artifacts here, so I highly recommend this museum to people who are interested in space. It's worth a visit! read more

What an amazing and important museum full of history that is vital to our existence here on earth. Super cool, interactive spot to learn for kids and adults ! We went while visiting family in Wichita. This spot is about an hour outside of Wichita but worth the drive. So much to learn about NASA and space and the different vessels and planes we use in the air ! The place is large and good for groups (there were 15 of us). This gift shop is so darn cute! Candi was the employee in there and she was very helpful with finding what we were looking for. The gift shop was very well organized, and prices are honestly not bad for many things- as they have clearance items as well. Also, they have military and veteran discount of 10%. I'm not sure why, living in Kansas for most of my life, I had never visited the Cosmosphere before, but I'm so glad I finally made it! We got the "All Access" passes and spent more than five hours here and there was never a dull moment. Science, space exploration, history...all very well presented. The Cosmosphere. They do important work and it's interesting but also underwhelming. If you have young kids this would be a great place to visit as they are sure to be entertained.. IF they like science and space. If they bore easily, maybe not the place to go. The staff is very nice, it's clean, and mostly interesting. The layout is a bit confusing and leaves a bit to be desired. After going through the main museum everything else kind of falls flat. The main museum part itself documents the space race, and the development of rockets from pre-wwII untik the end of the Apollo program. A lot of the information is repeated multiple times and starts to feel redundant. There are also some noticeable omissions in the history of space travel in regards to some important figures and events that are not addressed and, personally, I think would be more interesting if it included events in the space program up to modern day, and if it had more interactivity. Overall not a bad way to spend three or four hours, but I wouldn't make it my only reason to go to Hutchinson if you aren't from there or close to it. read more

This is the single best museum I've been to in years, maybe ever. If you're interested in space, air, and/or history, this is your place. As soon as you walk in an actual SR-71A greets you. Look down, Liberty Bell 7, look past those two and you see half of a space shuttle. The further I went, the more amazing it was. This collection is second to only the air and space museum at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. I mean, come on, Apollo 13's Odyssey is in there. The real one. I was very close to tearing up multiple times because of what many of these artifacts did for the United States during the Cold War and Space Race. This museum is stunning. Do yourself a favor and check it out, it's unbelievable. read more

An AMAZING Attraction Hidden In the Middle of Kansas EVERYONE Should Visit. Plan to spend your whole day inside a labyrinth of authentic, incredible, and historic space artifacts. The Cosmosphere has a lot to offer and I recommend getting the pass/ticket that gets you everything because everything is cool, fun, and informative for all ages--young to old. We showed up at its opening on Saturday and ran through the museum, saw a planetarium show, a movie in the dome theater, a live science experiment show, and a simulator. You will easily spend six hours doing everything, so plan on enjoying. Check out the pictures! Little do people know, folks from the Cosmosphere were tapped by NASA to help restore the Apollo-era Mission Operations Control Room (MOCR). In 2018, at the Cosmosphere's SpaceWorks restoration facility, conservators carefully took apart the more than half-century old consoles and brought them back to life. According to Sandra Tetley, the historic preservation officer and real property officer at Johnson Space Center, "They will be backlit with LED lighting so the visitor's experience is such that when you are in the viewing room looking in, all of the lights and monitors will be the same as when we were landing on the moon." I highly recommend going and going back. I can't wait to go back soon! read more

Small space centered attraction as compared to others with some areas undergoing construction. Admission prices are confusing, so watch the small print. There are movies to watch and planetarium shows to see but many things are "add on". What we did see was well displayed and informative. read more

The staff at the Kansas Cosmosphere was not only friendly but enthusiastic! The day we visited a storm hit the area knocking out power. The entire staff was not only professional and took care of all the visitors but they maintained a positive friendly attitude. While they waited for the power to be restored they even entertained the kids by making ice cream with them. It's not every day you visit a place where the staff is this great! Well done! read more

This place is absolutely amazing. The amount of authentic space flown and test items here rivals Air and Space in DC. Yes, it's that good. Don't even think to talk it down it because it's in the middle of the country. Don't be an uppity liberal and think the best this country has to offer is only in a coastal city. Museum, theater, planetarium we're all top shelf. Dr Goddard's lab was very cool and a nice surprise. Brett (in the lab) put on a tremendous program. Easily the best $50 for my wife and my entertainment i have spent in a long time. I spent nine hours in the building with no food breaks. It was really that good. read more

Must visit place when you are in Kansas. The selection of the exponents and story presentation is a true world class! This is an educational experience, it's space, there is an SR-71 blackbird to ogle in the lobby. If you are a Hutchinson resident it is free, pretty snazzy gift shop with some cool swag. A theatre I have not been to in part that whole thing since 2020. I know a few locals who have not been to the cosmosphere, I had to quit hanging out with them, mostly kidding. Here it is space travel is a huge thing this monkey man has much it can do here though it also has opportunities to grow larger than this planet. Knowing space and the space race is a huge part of the American dream, let alone other entities that dream.p read more

Wow! I drove 3 hours and 7 minutes from Overland Park, KS just to check it out, and it didn't disappoint. So much information and actual artifacts about Space! The majority of it, though, focuses on USA vs Russia in the Space Race and landing on the moon. It's not as interactive as other museums I've visited, but it's still great. If you visit, you MUST see the Apollo 11 movie feature AND Black Hole movie in the Planetarium, if they're still I'll available. I loved it there! read more

I grew up in Hutchinson, and yearly field trips to the Cosmosphere make up a big part of my childhood. After visiting again for the first time after 5 years, I was impressed all over again. It is very hard to believe a place like this can be found in Middle-of-Nowhere, KS! The Cosmosphere started out as a small planetarium at State fairgrounds After a few years it outgrew the facilities and moved to its current location and now has a space artifact collection second only to the Smithsonian. Some of the sights: A giant moon rock, the Apollo 13 Command Module, a 109-foot Titan rocket. Ooh, and the SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest plane ever built, suspended from the ceiling in the entryway is very impressive. My senior prom was held there, right underneath the Bird! Be sure to catch a movie at the IMAX theater, but if you have a weak stomach, make sure you have something to barf into. And buy some space ice cream! read more

What's the good thing about living in Southern California, but being guilted into going to middle-of-nowhere-Hutchinson, Kansas every other year or so to visit your grandparents? THE COSMOSPHERE! I've been here at least ten times over the course of my life, and it's just as exciting as an adult as it was as a child...only now I have the added nostalgia that eeks from my childhood memories. This town is literally in the middle of nowhere, but somehow the Cosmosphere has become a world class, Smithsonian affiliated, NASA certified museum. They have things like the actual Apollo 13 capsule, the Sputnik II (which never launched), a full size replica of a space shuttle, and more! This place is huge and is definitely worthy of big city status. Don't forget to go to the gigantonormous IMAX theater or see an observatory show! AWESOME. read more

Wow! Anyone studying US WWII history through the mid-70's should go to this museum. This is how history comes alive. The museum starts with Nazi Germany's quest to build the V-1 missiles, which post war leads to the arms/space race between Russia and the US. The exhibits and stories perfectly weave the histories of war, politics, and space into one amazing view. I wish every school kid could see history through this expansive lens, vs getting 3 separate histories from a textbook. Go! If you skip the IMAX and Planetarium, the main hall can be experienced in 1.5 hours. My only recommendation for improvement is to have an audio tour to accompany the exhibits, b/c reading all the dense materials does get tiresome and can be more challenging for students to get the complexities of all that was happening in the early days of space development. read more
