Lazy Moon Ranch - Alpacas will try to say stuff

Lazy Moon Ranch

I visited Lazy Moon Ranch this month with my elderly parents and a good friend, and we had a…read morejoyful, awesome experience. I cannot recommend this place more. It isn't just the place, it's the people, Erin and Jerramy, the owners of the Ranch, go above and beyond and have really created a beautiful place. My parents are 86 and 91 years old and my Mom has mobility issues. Erin and Jerramy were so kind and accommodating. They met us at the car with the golf cart and drove us to each enclosure since my Mom cannot walk far. When we reached the Patagonian Mara's, they had a chair prepared for my Mom to sit in, and we all got to feed them crispy lettuce. Such interesting little creatures, like a mix between a rabbit, a deer, and a capybara. We fed a huge 80 lb African tortoise over 20 years old, met goats of different types (I loved the Nubian goats with their velvety floppy ears), ducks, chickens, beautiful cats, different types of sheep, alpacas that are so so so cute, and an unforgettable experience with Penelope. Who is Penelope? She is the cutest ever African Crested Porcupine. I never thought I would pet a porcupine, but she is very sweet and loves her animal cracker treats. She takes them from you gently, but with gusto, lol. Petting her feels somewhat like petting vinyl straws. I saw that her ears are remarkably human-like in appearance. The idea that they "throw" their quills is a complete myth. They are pointy, but do not have barbs and she is not interested in using them unless threatened. She even likes to lay on her side to get belly scritches! We also signed up for the Painting With Alpacas, and I'm so glad we did. At first my Dad was a little intimidated and said he would just watch. But then when he saw how Erin was giving such easy, step by step instructions, and how fun it was, he took over my Mom's painting and ended up doing it all himself (sorry Mom, lol). We painted hummingbirds and were very pleased with the results. My friend had never painted anything before in her life, but ended up with a beautiful painting. And being surrounded by alpacas (and Larry, the llama) made it really cool. They are so incredibly curious. They came right up to us while we were painting and just stared, which kept making us laugh. At first we weren't sure we would be able to do the painting because it was a really weirdly hot and humid day (never that hot in October normally), and I didn't want my parents to get overheated. But when we got to the spot where the painting is, in the shade, with the cool fans blowing on us, and Erin gave us cold water, we cooled down completely and were actually very comfortable and completely enjoyed just sitting there, taking in the nature, and painting while relaxing. Afterwards, we stopped by the gift shop and picked up some cute items. I got some alpaca wool socks (love them), a t shirt, and some alpaca wool shoe inserts. My friend got a little miniature alpaca that is so cute. They had a surprisingly good selection of many cute items, including earrings made from porcupine quills. My only regrets are 2 things, and neither of them are a reflection in any way on the experience itself: I just wish I had been able to see more of the property and ALL of the animals, like the emus, and feeding the donkeys or horses, and I would have liked to buy some fresh eggs. But because my parents were with me, I didn't want to wear them out too much. But that was my own decision, and not because the owners neglected to show us everything. I will just have to come back, enjoy doing another painting, and meet and interact with all the animals we missed the first time. Even if you do get to see most everything on your first visit, you could come back many times and have a unique experience every time. My second regret is that I forgot to pre-medicate with allergy medication before I went. So I had some hay fever the next day. I happen to have really annoying allergies, and the hay combined with the animals, irritated my allergies. After a few days of allergy pills I was back to normal. But my friend who pre-medicated and took her allergy pill before we went, had zero symptoms. So that would be my recommendation for anyone who has allergies.....pre-medicate. And I will remember to do that next time I go. Beautiful unique experience that I recommend for all, young or old, and for everyone in between. Thank you, Erin, Jerramy, and your large extended 4-legged family, for an unforgettable day!

If I had a lot of money and I never had to work again, I would create a place like Lazy Moon Ranch,…read moreand I would be forever happy. Just a place where animals can live out their lives in peace, and where every day is Halloween, with a barn that's been converted to a haunted house, and an outdoor space full of games and fun surprises around every corner. A place outside where you can create art with the farm animals who live with you, and just be surrounded by color and zaniness. A visit to Lazy Moon Ranch is a must if you're in the Augusta area. You'll have a lot of fun playing wall ball, disc golf, playing on the playground, fishing in the fishing hole, racing ducks and lots more. There are animals everywhere that you can interact with. (Feed a capybara or pygmy goat!) Pet a donkey! Watch a tortoise go from one house to another. It's hard to describe Lazy Moon Ranch, but it reminds me a lot of Pee-wee's Playhouse: there's something interesting to look at around every corner. One of the things that Lazy Moon Ranch specializes in is painting parties, where you can paint with alpacas. I didn't know what to expect with this activity, because I'm always wary of animals, but the alpacas are very gentle and tame, and the painting activity is structured enough that it put me at ease. Our instructor, the owner, is an artist herself, so she made the painting lesson easy to follow and fun. I walked away with a really cool painting! Afterward, you can feed the alpacas. Lazy Moon Ranch also celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. You can tell from the haunted house they have in their barn, and all of the Halloween decorations everywhere. This is the place for any Halloween lover to visit, for sure. This is one of those places where it's difficult to describe just how great it is, because you need to visit to experience it. So: Just visit Lazy Moon Ranch! It will probably be one of the most unique and memorable places you have ever visited.

I just have to share this amazing experience!…read more We came to Wichita, Kansas, to visit our daughter while she's interning at Textron Aviation. Since we'd never been to Kansas before, we were looking for something unique to do over a long weekend. After reading so many great reviews, we decided to visit Diamond Springs Ranch for a true Kansas prairie horseback riding experience, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, we felt less like customers and more like guests in someone's home. The hospitality was genuine, the service was warm and welcoming, and every part of the experience was thoughtfully done. Logan, thank you for creating such a special place! Our family had an amazing time. A huge thank you to Luke behind the bar for the great conversation and hospitality, Jessica for leading an incredible horseback trail ride through the beautiful prairie, and Louie (I hope I got your name right!) for serving some of the best smoked BBQ we've had. It was absolutely delicious! As if the horseback riding wasn't enough, we also got to feed the three adorable Highland cattle, which was such a fun and memorable experience. They also offer glamping on-site, and after seeing the property, it's definitely on our list for a future visit. If you're looking for an authentic Kansas experience with incredible people, beautiful prairie scenery, amazing food, and unforgettable horseback riding, I can't recommend Diamond Springs Ranch enough. This was easily one of the highlights of our trip, and we'll definitely be back!

I recently went by the Yoder Meats located in Wichita, KS and told my Husband that I would like to…read moresee the larger store in Yoder. We decided to take that 40 minute drive and pick up some of their meats this weekend. At first, I wasn't seeing anything that screaming my name -- but upon my 2nd trip around their store I noticed a variety of 'Free Samples'. So I tried their Salsa and it was pretty good. We can it at home so I didn't purchase any. They had 3 different types of Sausages on a Griddle to try. They looked intriguing, but I had just eaten! What grabbed my attention was their 'Amish Wedding' line of products. They had afew items by the Cash Register to sample. I tried one of their Sweet Gherkins. I was walking away to catch up with Hubby when the heat started to kick in!! Yum! I ran back and grabbed a jar!! We went into their Retail area and looked at their goods. Lamps, Pictures, Quilts, etc. They had some Pancake Syrups and Popcorn Oils and Toppings on that side of the store. Hubby suggested a Ham Steak for dinner -- so we returned to the Meat Cases. I ended up picking up a pkg of Baby Back Ribs for next weekend and a small pkg of Canadian Bacon . Hubby was looking through their Smoked Cheeses and selected a Smoked Cheddar and Bacon. I wished after we left that I had chosen the Smoked Horseradish Cheese, but I am on a diet that includes no Dairy or Gluten. Speaking of which, they have a very small Gluten Free section. They did have some intriguing jars of Preserves and Pie Fillings, but we didn't pick any of those up on this trip. They have a Deli Case and some freshly made Pies and Cinnamon Rolls. Very nice place!!
