Since my daughter started her high school music program years ago, we've made regular visits here for various music needs, from instruments, to accessories, and printed music. They have the most impressive selection of instruments, similar to the flagship Long & McQuade. As a suburbanite driver, I have to say that I'd rather travel to Cosmo, where there's all kinds of plentiful parking, not to mention an in-house cafe! It's a Terminal 3 Roasters chain location (plenty of Yelp reviews on that if it is of interest.) They proudly display their top retailer award for instruments, which I regrettably can't remember the name of specifically. In any event, it's no surprise. Room after room and floor above floor are filled with display models, and if it's not on display, they can order it for you. While they do carry a full range of beginner to high end instruments, they also have some used offerings. Perhaps not surprisingly, they offer music lessons as well. The rooms are clean, with a large waiting area stocked with toys and activities for those siblings stuck waiting. They even have a fascinating museum of famous musicians complete with plaster hand prints, signatures, and biographies to accompany their photos. When it comes to their printed music selection and accessories, it's good, but not extensive. They cater more to the private individual as opposed to professionals, and don't always keep up with gaps in stock. In terms of accessories, it's pretty much the same - you may or may not find what you need in stock. They also carry quite a wide range of non-instrument related merchandise like t-shirts, vinyl records, trinkets, etc. for music lovers, so even if you don't play, you can find neat stuff for yourself, or music lovers on your gift list. I would definitely recommend checking this place out at least once, and especially if you're researching for a big instrument investment. We've been coming for years, and will continue. read more

My friend and I were at Terminal 3 Coffee Roasters in October. We caught up on our lives as we sipped mochas and snacked. This cafe was located in Cosmo Music. It was my first time at both businesses. Afterwards, we checked out Cosmo Music. She has been here countless times with her daughter, so I got the scoop from her while we both investigated new sections to both of us. It's kind of like a mall, except that each store is still Cosmo Music, but specialized. We started with Tom's Guitar. My first musical instrument that I ever played was the ukelele. I played it in grades 3 and 6. I liked it so much that my parents got me one from Scarboro Music, which sadly closed for good a couple of years ago. I saw a purple ukelele that made me want to play it again and get a uke in my favourite colour. I also saw a watermelon one. I wanted that one, too. It was the cheaper one out of the batch at just over $150. We admired all the guitars. Electric. Acoustic. Everything. From traditional to sparkly, there's one for everyone. We then walked up the stairs to the Piano Loft. We admired the baby grand pianos. Across from it is where you check in for music lessons. We loved seeing handprints and signatures of singers and musicians, from Tyler Stewart from Barenaked Ladies, to April Wine. A brief biographical blurb accompanied each frame that was bolted down. It felt like being in a cool museum. I basically ran through almost my entire musical upbringing. I played viola from grades 5 through 8. It was lovely seeing violas again. One was 40% off. I wanted it, too. All wants! The woman in the woodwinds section was so nice and patient with me reliving my teen years. I played clarinet all through high school. I still own my Buffet clarinet. Sure enough, I spotted a Buffet. Buffet is still making clarinets, which made me happy. I'd likely need a new reed for my clarinet. This store has reeds should I decide to crack open my clarinet case, assemble my clarinet, and figure out if I can make a pleasing sound out of it like I once did. I also played trombone. I marvelled at all the shiny trombones. I shared my story with my friend about playing the trombone as my second musical instrument in my last year of high school. We had a note that required the trombone slide to be in eighth position. It meant that you had to extend your arm as far away from you on the slide. Well, my peer next to me did it, but lost his grip on the slide. His trombone slide went flying across the music room as aerodynamically as you can imagine. Our entire trombone section was out for that piece of music. We were too busy laughing. Good times. You can get some cool gifts. We liked the guitar-shaped bookcase that we admired. There was also a t-shirt section. T-shirts prices are good here. We saw them ranging from $15 to $35. I loved stopping by this cool music store. I may be back to buy either a musical instrument that I used to play, or get an electric guitar and be my neighbourhood's worst nightmare. (429) read more

Ordered from their online store, but they did not have the item. It appears they had discontinued business with their supplier but kept lying about and deferring the item's ETA. They sat with my money ($2k) for almost a year and I never got the item. So after almost a year of waiting, I requested to cancel my order for a refund. They did NOT refund me right away. On top of that, they said they would NOT provide a timeframe as to when the refund will be process. I am not kidding. I have seen a number of similar complaints on Google Reviews. Buyer Beware. Calling their online business a scam is no exaggeration. Do not let the facade of their beautiful physical store fool you. I caution against buying from them online. read more

Do not buy their stuff online! If you do not want to lose money. I had an awful customer experience with them last year. I purchased a subwoofer from them in February 2024 and have been waiting until October, and they have never sent me one despite numerous promises. Cosmo Music agent Shashank repeatedly promised to reimburse my money after I cancelled my order, but he never did. He never returned my calls and emails. When I contact another agent, they direct me back to Shashank. Customer service is horrible. Check out Trustpilot's consumer reviews. Do not buy from Cosmo Music! You have been warned. read more

Took my son to this Music palace on boxing day, all I can say is wow, what an absolute gem, from the guitars that were works of art to the excellent customer service, I can't but recommend this store any more, two downfalls however, not big, but just think about them. QR codes are great for more information, however, someone with poor eyesight, along with the dim lighting in the store, makes it a big aggravating, having to do all that just to see the price. If the items in that Clearance area on the 2nd floor arent updated immediately it might be best to leave it off especially when you're unable to purchase it on line. Because of this, we were in the market for a piano so they could practice at home. We found Cosmo through an internet search. We were very impressed with the selection they had online. You name it, they've got it. We took down some model numbers and headed to the store to see them in person. Walking into the store, the first thing you notice is just how big the store is. This is probably the biggest music store I've ever been in my life. They have multiple sections with almost every instrument you can think of. The only problem that came about was that the stock the showed on their web page did not match what they actually have in store. There were at least 4 or 5 models that said in stock on their web page that they didn't have at the store. It was a little disappointing. The staff though were all very helpful. The sales person was very helpful despite having to keep doing searches because the stock was not accurate. When it came to putting our electric piano into the car, my wife and I found out we did not plan very well. We still had our car seats in the back and the boxes were huge. The guy who brought out our boxes to the car was amazing. He figured it all out for us to get everything to fit. All in all, I liked my experience at Cosmo. I really wished their stock online reflected the actual stock better. Nonetheless, I would recommend this store to anyone looking for an instrument. read more

I had a frustrating experience buying a guitar from these guys. I placed the order online at the height of the pandemic and, consequently, there was a delay of almost a year before they got the guitar in stock. That was OK -- everyone was having supply chain issues -- but, unlike their competitors, they NEVER checked in with updates. Every few months I would call them to see if they had an ETA (emails were usually ignored) and that was the only reason why I knew that the guitar was actually going to show up. They just sat on my $1100 for a year without any kind of real customer service. Then it arrived, and the real disappointment set in. There was a splinter sticking out of the neck, and a fret buzz that couldn't be dialed out. How did their pre-shipping "inspection" not notice these flaws? Were they just in such a hurry to get the guitar out the door that they didn't care? It turned out there was a low fret, a fairly significant flaw. Well, I took the guitar in for warranty service and the tech there more or less dismissed my assessment of the fret as low (and fair enough, I'm an amateur, he's the pro). They then sat on the guitar for another month or so before finally reaching out to me to tell me that the WHOLE neck was messed up and needed to be replaced under warranty. So that took another while as they waited for the replacement neck. Finally it was ready, and when I went in to collect the guitar (it's a pain getting out to Cosmo since their location is not well served by public transportation) I noticed that the replacement neck had a bunch of sharp fret ends sticking out. Clearly, it had been installed on the guitar and strung up but once again, no effort was made to "inspect" the new neck for flaws, let alone to correct them. They handed me a bill for the replacement strings (for a guitar being serviced under warranty?), which I paid and left, having made up my mind not to deal with Cosmo anymore. it's too bad, since the actual Cosmo store is a really awe-inspiring experience. read more

Guitars Guitars and More Guitars! Cosmo Music is for music lovers looking for any instruments. But their guitar selection is just so awesome with the wall to ceiling guitar display. I like the idea that you can try them all out before getting something you like. They have private rooms set up with various amplifiers for that purpose. And of course if you are a guitar player, you would not be happy to just own one of those babies! I like how the store is divided up into different sections/departments with dedicated sale representatives and you can just find everything you need without looking around. And even a coffee shop right inside the building?! I do wish the coffee place has similar hours as Cosmo Music itself. read more

My kid wants to learn violin. Given violins are not cheap, we went to Cosmo to rent. Total score as the violin we rented is brand new. Signed up for lessons while we were there. Love that they will credit the cost of rental against the purchase of an instrument if within 90 days. I think I first was at Cosmo about 30 years ago. I've been a customer of Cosmo for years now, but this was the first time I shopped with them online. I had a very good online shopping experience. I ordered a $40 Roland UM-ONE USB/MIDI cable in the afternoon on Sunday, it was shipped out the next day via Purolator, there was a trivial shipping charge ($0.30 vs $22 shipping from a store on the west coast!), it was easy to track and best of all, it arrived on Tuesday. Initially, I had some technical issues with my first attempt to use the unit, so I used the live chat to initiate a return. The agent was friendly and helpful. (On advice I tried one more time before returning the cable and it's working just great so I'm keeping it after all). I'll gladly shop online with them again. read more

I don't frequent musical instrument stores much, so I can't do a services level or selection or quality commentary. What I can comment on is how I was treated and the premise. I visited during a sales day, or in their promotion term music fest day. I was amazed at how well organized the event was. The line up was organised. There were portable toilets. There was a McD truck to serve coffee starting 8am. The clearance tent, and the vendor tent were spacious. I bought what I wanted at half price, so it totally worthed the one-hour wait. I noticed some minor imperfections on the instrument about a week after. They repaired them for free. The staffs at the repair counter were super friendly; they didn't bat an eye that it was a clearance item. So cool. The store itself is spacious, clean, and inviting. Regular pricing is as expensive as most places, which means pretty pricey. read more

Some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I placed an order online on April 30. Nothing was done with the order until May 5 when I received notice that my order had been shipped, but with a different shipping company than I selected when placing my order and a tracking number of all zeros. I followed up with both their online messaging and an email, but got no response. Finally on May 12, someone responded to a Facebook message and said they were investigating, but the emails I received merely said they were investigating, no hint of an apology for the delays. I finally heard back late on May 13 saying they could not find what happened to my order and offered a refund or immediate shipment of my item. I thanked them for getting back with a sincere response and said I would like to proceed with the order. I was told they would get the shipment out "as soon as humanly possible" and was assured I would be provided with a tracking number as soon as the shipment was done. I heard nothing from them on May 15 and followed up with another email early on May 19. No response whatsoever. Another email went in the morning of May 20. Still no response, so the evening of May 20, I finally gave in and asked to cancel the order. Strangely enough, that one got a response early on May 21. Easily the worst online buying experience I have ever experienced. Terrible customer communication and seemingly complete indifference to customer experience. I will not make the mistake of dealing with them again. Now I just need to see how long it tales for my refund to be processed. read more

How can you spend nearly an hour looking at guitars in a music store and not once have a salesperson even acknowledge your existence, let alone try to help you - or god forbid - get you to buy something? Well, Cosmo seems to to have perfected that level of crappy customer service. And in the "cheap" guitar area - there's one, maybe two stools you can use to actually try the guitars you might be interested in buying. If those are in use, too bad I guess. And then when we went to buy something (guitar strings and picks - no way I'm buyin a guitar here after this shopping experience) it took like 15 minutes to get through the interminably slow checkout line. And their harmonica selection sucks too - unless you're looking for an A C or G keyed harp. The only thing that keeps this from being a one star review is that they seem to have a HUGE selection of instruments, and you can pretty much play whatever you want in the expensive guitar rooms (no salespeople to be seen up there). And when I wandered through the woodwind section they actually had a salesperson ask if I needed help. But unless they carried something that I couldn't get anywhere else, there's no way I'd ever shop here again. read more

I would call this place the music equivalent of a Sport Chek. Being used to small, often crammed & dusty boutique music shops, I was pleasantly surprised by Cosmo's spacious, clean & brightly lit one shop stop for all things music. The store functions like a mini-music mall, with an atrium & specialty shops for brass, string, piano & sheet music. There's even a coffee shop & music studio. Customer service is pretty good, with more employees on hand than required (I went during non peak hours). The only downside is that the store is located kind of in the middle of nowhere (north of Major Mackenzie, away from major shopping areas), but it's located off of Leslie, which is close enough to the 404, so it's not too bad. read more

If ever there was a music store amusement park, this might be it! The store's (and I use ther word "store" loosely - this place was a small community) layout is broken down into their own, glass-doored, sound-proof rooms, each section with their own exterior design to set it apart from the other sections that almost warrants me to review each on its own (but the lobby is where the check-out is thus reminding me this is one epic-sized place). The sections are these: * Bookstore - Full of instructional (both beginner and intermediate) and song books for all instruments (and organized by such as well) * Drums and Drum sets * Woodwinds and brass * Strings * Guitars * Sound equipment * Pianos - located upstairs with a very conservative sales rep who knew his stuff * Lessons - located upstairs (near the pianos) with a waiting room that looks very similar to a large doctor's office. * Cafe in the lobby by cash What was great about this place was that its noise was from the bustle of shoppers and not the playing and banging of instruments you'd expect to hear. The display cases for some of their instruments (particularly the woodwinds and brasses) looked like a museum displaying delicate works of art... shiny. This is truly a place for any musician to check out and for those looking to start up with an instrument, make this a starting point. read more

Coolest musical instrument store ever. Each segment of musical instrument has it's own little store. It looks like a lot of cafes inside a big office building and each cafe has their own specialty; guitars, woodwinds, string, percussion, turntables, and pretty much everything. Staff is super knowledgeable and most of them are teachers at the school upstairs. The cafe on the main floor isn't bad and they have tasty treats. Where this store shines is the guitar section. Pick and guitar, walk into one of many soundproof rooms, plug in, and jam all day long. Nobody will bug you! It's pretty sweet, even if you don't own a guitar you could prob log a few hours each day here. The Acoustic section upstairs is really nice and has cool circle couches to jam on. Overall, this is THE place to go for music gear. The prices are a little higher than some other places but it's not much of a difference and the service and experience make up for it. Come here and try to resist buying anything, a bloody hard thing to do. read more

After an extensive search for a music shop North of the City, I was pleasantly surprised to discover Cosmo Music, conveniently located in Richmond Hill. Upon arriving at the location, I was even more amazed by the vast amount of assortment of instruments, the attentive service and how passionate the staff are about music! My main goal was to pick up a ukelele as a gift and throughout my whole experience in this "music mall", I left with a complete education about the instrument. The gentleman that was helping me was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about both guitars and ukelele, his enthusiasm was contagious! Very impressive selection of both instruments - too many to choose from! As someone who has taken music lessons for 12 years, I would have loved to attend classes in this inspiring space, surrounded by so many music enthusiasts. read more

Although the music store is great, the school upstairs is terrible. Classes lack engaging content and decent structure. Even the rooms where the group classes for toddlers are held are uninspiring with bare white walls and greige floors. Worst of all is the customer service. And once you meet the manager Denise, it's easy to see that the training for bad service comes from above. She's just plain rude. She doesn't listen to requests, especially if you are not of Chinese descent, and makes condescending comments about you and your parenting! There are lots of great music schools out there. If you actually like your kids, don't bring them to Cosmo. read more

Love the guitar section, but that's about it. Had a terrible experience with the Audio / Tech section - sales people are brutal to deal with. Went to return an audio interface after learning that I could no longer afford it and I was actually charged a ($75!) restocking fee after being told that the fee would be waived; thanks for hearing me out and for lying to me Michael from the audio section. Pricing is above-average - I was able to find a much better deal online. Evidently customer service is not their priority. I wanted people to know that my experience was terrible. I bought an expensive guitar from Cosmo through Reverb in April. It was 9 days after the purchase before it was shipped. Their delivery service, Purolator, lost the guitar and only located it when I called them (on the expected delivery date). It then got hung up in customs for another week because Cosmo didn't transfer all of my information to UPS. When I finally received it (just over 3 weeks after the purchase), it was damaged. I immediately let Cosmo know, with pictures. They told me to "give them a day" to figure out what to do. I reached back out to them FIVE days later, and they agreed to take it back. They received it about 4 days later, but refused to return my money. They did not answer any emails from me for more than 2 weeks before I finally got Reverb involved. ( I never did hear from Cosmo). According to Reverb, none of their attempts at contacting Cosmo were answered either. Finally, Reverb returned my money "on behalf of the seller". Moral of the story: Refusing to return the customer's money after receiving the damaged guitar back, and refusing to communicate with the customer, shows either dishonesty or incompetence, neither of which are pleasant to deal with. It may be a really cool experience to visit a store like that in person, but don't trust them with large purchases online. Choose a store that demonstrates some integrity. read more
