The sports bar aspect of the business has been emphasized and the food quality diminished. The food isn't bad, but it's certainly not the standout it used to be. For example, the hamburger steak entre I ordered was okay, but it was $12 for the patty covered in gravy and mushrooms, one side, and "garlic bread." My side was plain rice - no extra brown gravy on it, despite my request - and the garlic bread strips were small. I suppose everything these days is expensive, but it felt underwhelming. I also ordered a cup of the soup of the day: shrimp and corn. My former favorite - I used to visit specifically for that dish - it's now best described as unmemorable. The service was friendly and fine, despite some mistakes. With one room now basically dedicated to the bar and pool tables, there's a more noticeable "sports bar" vibe, though I don't think there were a bunch of TVs in the dining area? I wasn't really paying attention to that. If you're looking for a place to play pool, drink, and eat something decent, sure, this is still a good bet. But if you're just looking to go out and have a great meal in Hammond, Mariner's Inn no longer makes the recommendation list.

Shocking and sad…read more Apparently the new owners and management didn't understand that much of the allure and ambiance of Mariners Inn was being able to sit and overlook the old fashioned downtown Hammond through the front windows. I'll eat in a restaurant that has pool tables tucked away in the back, however I most likely wouldn't eat in a pool hall with a restaurant in the back. Friday night when everyone else around you are slammed and you have an empty restaurant maybe try a rewind and just copy what Bruce did for forty years instead of trying to fix what wasn't broken. I can't bring myself to rate Mariners less than a three star but frankly these days that may be generous. Please do better.

The staff is wondeful.. young, smiling, courteous and very attentive. My wings were fabulous... maybe the best ever. We also had some fabulous shrimp tacos. Only disappointment was the waffle fries.. sprinkled with some garlicky salt, warm and rather mealy. Bottom line, excellent value, very good food, casual if not slightly 'lively' atmosphere, and a pleasant young and cute wait staff...

Changed the bayou pasta recipe and charge $3.00 up charge just to get fried shrimp on it instead of blackened shrimp. Does it really cost $3.00 for batter? That makes it come to $22.00 for a pasta dish. Thats insane! I usually get this dish every time I come but I ordered something else instead because I wasn't paying $22.00 for pasta!
