Lived in a Cornerstone managed building for one year. Pretty much the worst experience of my adult life thus far.
We were paying $1100 plus utilities as when we viewed the place it was super nice and spacious. We were told that they were looking to make the building more "up-scale" and that they wanted young professionals as tenants. We were also told that the building was bug free.
All being well, we signed the lease.
Upon moving in, we noticed that there were some pretty severe maintenance issues. We mentioned this to Cornerstone and were told they'd get right on it. So, July 2nd of 2015, we gave them a list of maintenance concerns. It is now July 25th of 2016, and none of those concerns have been fixed.
About a month after moving in, the bugs started. At first it was just a cockroach here and there. Not a huge deal. Except that cornerstone would often only give 48 hours notice of their monthly (Sometimes weekly) sprays. Not only that, but multiple times the pest control company would show up and not spray because there was some sort of misunderstanding or clerical error. I work a lot of 12 hour night shifts, so sometimes I would have to take the day off work as I couldnt sleep in the apartment and had to take my pets out. This would have been fine if they actually sprayed, but 4 separate times, cornerstone gave notice of a spray and never did.
So cockroaches are one thing, bed bugs are another. October of 2015 we had our first experience with bed bugs. Cornerstone sprayed, all was well. No bugs were seen until June 2015. It took me almost 3 weeks to convince them they had to do something about it. So they sent in sniffing dogs, which just confirmed what I already confirmed with pictures of live bedbugs. It was almost a week later when we got our initial spray. After this spray, we saw an increase in the amount of bedbugs and frequency of bites. I sent cornerstone an email 2 days after the spray to let them know the spray was unsuccessful. They didn't repond to the email until 4 days later.
In their reply email they basically told me I had to wait until the follow up treatment. They sent me 2 different emails stating the spray would be on July 21st. So, I fought tooth and nail with my work as I was working sequential night shifts on the 20th and 21st. I can't sleep in my apartment if they are spraying and since I have bedbugs, and pets, there was no real place for me to go except to sit in a park while they sprayed.
Well, at about 2pm on the 21st, the pest control company hadnt come yet, and I started to get worried. I then called corner stone and they tell me, very rudely, that they won't be spraying and that the spray was actually scheduled for July 25th. I lose it, and demand that they come. Not only have I lost wages, but I'm covered in welts and I can't get a decent night's sleep. Laura, CornerStone's lackey, decides to be rude to me and tells me that she will call Joseph, their maintenance guy. Joseph calls me , and immediately gets defensive and starts talking over me, telling me I am wrong and that no one told me the spray would be on the 21st. Anyways, they end up sending out someone to spray just our unit.
A week later, we still have bugs. Now Cornerstone is ignoring my emails. Possibly because I called Laura a "useless twit" (which is pretty tame actually).
Anyways, if you're thinking of renting a Cornerstone Property, think again. This has been the worst nightmare. There are 12 units in this building and almost everyone has moved out and had dealings with the Landlord Tenant Board.
