They have a good detox program and a decent residential program. The issue I had was with the therapy department which was non existent when inpatient. If you can get Maria as your case manager then you are lucky because she's awesome. Outpatient is structured well but again I didn't receive the therapy I needed and was really wanting. They are good about appointments and getting you to the places you need to go to. I advise advocating for yourself to ensure you get a good case manager and therapist in outpatient. Nursing is understaffed in the evening and so when admissions are happening which they do mostly after 5:00 it can be hard to find a nurse. Swing shift should really have 2 nurses at all times. The nurses they have their are good but I had to really advocate for myself to get my meds delivered and it was frustrating at times. Some of the BHT's are wonderful and some need some training to understand they are working with mental health populations and and to be a little more professional with this clientele. read more

I appreciate this place for being honest, helpful, open and aware. They do what is right and keep the clients best interest at heart. Sometimes this isn't what the client wants to hear or have happen but in the end they really do what is best for their clients. Having been a client here I know first hand how much the staff cares about everyone who comes through their doors. They have helped me out immensely and showed me a new way of living. After countless of rehabs for my son from the most expensive ones that charged 35,000 a month I thought well if they cost this much,they must be a great place...Yeah right! Those places didn't care about my sons rehabilitation it was all about the money! I truly had gave up on rehabs.that was until We were referred to Corner Stone. I am writing this as the father of a patient that attended Cornerstone, headquarters in Santa Ana. Heroin has been a struggle for over 5 years now with my daughter. I cant say enough about this organization. I had heard mostly negative things about the rehabilitation industry as a whole but Cornerstone repeatedly proved what I had heard wrong. They truly care a great deal about their patients, they make them feel they are part of a family, believe it or not it isnt all about the money to them, they displayed that on a few occasions throughout her 90 day program. They ensure that the clients obey rules and get the help they need to function in the real world. Just wanted to update how I am doing after being at Cornerstone back from December 2009-May 2010. As I had stated in my initial review, Cornerstone(Dr. Stone in particular) saved my life. I had various medical issues, and had been on meds( pain meds and ativan) to alleviate my problems. These drugs, of course, complicated my problems. The staff and Dr. Stone in particular, helped me work through my various medical problems and took me to medical appts. We are now in 2020, have had other medical issues since I left Cornerstone; however, have not gone back to my addictive habits...Cornerstone set the groundwork and I remember all I learned while there and continue to remain "addiction free." Cornerstone saved my life and I continue to be grateful to this day to all they did for me at a time of my life when no other facility was really interested in helping me... If you're here right now reading this, there's obviously a reason for it, I was right here doing the same before I called and scheduled myself to check into rehab here... let me start by saying that I've wanted to write this review for a while. Cornerstone truly helped save my life. I say helped me, because they gave me the fundamentals I needed to live my life again and maintain my sobriety, the rest is up to me to carry that out. I will have 15 months being clean and sober in 5 days. It was my first time seeking help and going to rehab. It also came highly recommended by a close friend who will have 4 years at the end of this month through cornerstone as well. At the time, I hated everything about cornerstone, I realize now that I needed the "tough love" from the amazing staff for not putting up with my whiny bs. Life isn't fair sometimes and I needed to realize that. The facility itself is nice, the houses were clean (we had to keep them that way) and we always had what we needed, as well as the staff being compassionate and accommodating. Some days we'd be going 15 hours straight with meetings and small groups, it was nice to stay busy. I really enjoyed having the family day once a week, I needed that taste of home & to see their faces & how proud they were when they saw what little progress I had made. Looking back at this small amount of time I spent there (37 days) was literally the best decision I could have made for myself. Side note: I also read these reviews while I was in cornerstone and thought they paid people to give 5 stars and great reviews... I am living proof that is not true by any means. It's a semi decent place for rehabilitation. It's a good place to detox but after that, in extended care I had my reservations about it, in regards with counselors. They could definitely use more training on running a group. And would've been great to have a good Psychologist on site. In any case, my highlight was my house monitor/manager Kim Hart; at house 17. She rocks. She was basically my go to person to talk and vent. She has a heart of gold and if i could take her withme when I left, I would. She's one person i can honestly say that genuinely cares!!!! read more

My dad was here about three years ago. I am now making arrangements for his funeral. He died of heart failure, and lived the last three years clean and proud of himself. I talked to him recently, and he was telling me how he was trying to get his girlfriend in the program here, because it worked for him. I don't have any personal experience with this treatment center, but I have seen what it can produce. Here's the thing, cornerstone is not a sympathetic rehab program, they are pretty straight up with you. I hated it in the beginning, i felt like the staff were all jerks and i was being treated unfairly. But that's what you need to really get sober, in my opinion. Of course the staff isn't going to take any level for crap from patients, they are dealing with drug addicts. we are, by nature, people who will do anything to get our way. Straight up though, i am 100% sure that i would not be sober today without my time at cornerstone. The last case manager i had there, Don, changed my life. He went above and beyond, and took the time to understand my personal situation, he even hooked me up with the best therapist i have ever been to. I am one year and 4.5 months sober now, i owe that to the foundation of sobriety i built at the C-Stone. Don't get it twisted, its not perfect, there are things about it i didn't like, such as the 10 O'clock curfew and near impossibility of getting an overnight pass to spend time with your family. But i understand why they have those rules. One thing i cant stress enough though, if you think the staff is being hard on you, you deserve to be in that position. We hurt people a lot in our time drinking and using, who are we to demand the respect of someone? That's something you have to earn. By the time i left cornerstone, every staff member that i originally had a problem with or i thought treated me poorly, i was on great terms with. Its also cool that the majority of the staff is in recovery as well. As to the comment about medication refills, they straight up tell you that you are the one who needs to make the call to get it done, and they will pick it up for you. I never had a problem regarding medication. And the thing about the 12 inpatient experiences is based upon the statistic that 90% of people trying to get sober will go back out before they get to a year clean. They're just telling you like it is. I prefer that over the crap Promises of Malibu spouts about how their program is "guaranteed" to work. They will try to keep you there for a while though, but in all fairness, its a business. And businesses need to make money. don't go in thinking that you can spend 30 days there and you'll be cured, that's not how recovery works, no matter what rehab you go to. In reality though, don't stay longer than 6 months, unless you are there for legal reasons. I personally didn't have and legal problems, but for the friends i made there who did, the legal team at Cornerstone is top notch. If you want to avoid doing time, they are pretty darn good at getting you time in rehab rather than jail. i met a dude there who had his 5th DUI and they were able to get his sentence commuted to time in rehab rather than jail. Yeah, that's expensive, but probably a lot better than the alternative. The main thing i disliked about it was that everything seemed to be a bureaucratic nightmare. Confusing and redundant paperwork, and difficult to get a straight answer on some things like when i was going to be discharged. Also, they wont let you change your appearance drastically (i.e. no new crazy hair cut or dye jobs, no new facial piercings, etc.) I got in trouble for giving my friend a double Mohawk with my clippers. which i deemed pretty irrational, seeing as he asked me to do it, and i don't think they have the right to tell me or anyone else how to look. (i understand that they are trying to mold patients back into normal society, but i simply don't agree with it.) BOTTOM LINE: i would recommend this place to anyone trying to get sober. just don't expect them to wipe your butt for you. You cook and clean for yourself, having a phone or mp3 player is a privilege you have to earn, and no one is going to take your crap. But in my opinion, that's the kind of stuff you need to be brought back to reality. It helped me become a responsible person, something i never was before. The family nights are great too, kind of painful to hear my loved ones rehash the hell i put them through, but I'm glad they could have an active role in my recovery. UPDATE: ay yo, what up, just wanted say, I'm over two years clean now. livin life great. and to the person complaining about them giving the meds back to Janet or whatever the hell psuedonym you used, its a legal thing. you cant throw away prescription medications of another person. they can take them while they're in the rehab. but they are not allowed to just throw them away. read more

I just completed my time at Cornerstone and I have to say that I am sad to go. This may seem weird since most people think of rehab as a horrible place. I know because I was one of them. I knew i had a problem "Sort of" but did not want to be classified as someone who needed REHAB. Although, going to and being a part of the program changed my whole perspective not just of REHAB but of myself. Cornerstone in my opinion does not treat the addiction but the mind behind the addictive thinking. I discovered so much about why I think and act the way I do. I learned a better way to do life and to think about my day to day. I learned how to live in happiness even though my life is not always happy. My son just completed a treatment program at Cornerstone of Southern California. I am very grateful for this program and its entire staff. I am saddened by some of the negative reviews I have read. I don't think people who wrote those understand what is involved in getting someone you love the help they need. Cornerstone is owned and run by Dr. Stone; a family physician who specializes in addiction medicine. His family now helps to run the day to day operations, they are not profit driven, they are driven to help people, unlike many other treatment centers that are being run by large corporations and have investors. If you want a non-profit treatment center, there are many available. My son was very sick before being admitted to Cornerstone. One of his friends called me and said he was worried and something needed to be done ASAP or my son would be dead in 3 days. Needless to say, I panicked as I was not aware his drinking had become that bad. I was able to get him admitted to Cornerstone right away and Sam and Mary the admissions staff were compassionate and understanding. Within a short time they had him in a detox bed and were getting his labs done. His blood pressure was sky high and his liver enzymes were triple what they should have been. He is doing much better now as we caught this just in time. Irma was his first counselor in detox. She was tough, but it was just what he needed. She takes no BS! His counselor Linda was also perfect for him. She was balanced with just the right amounts of firmness and love. Alcoholics and Addicts can't be coddled. They will always walk all over the staff and continue to manipulate everyone. Cornerstone knows this and they offer some tough love. Yes, my son got angry and wanted to leave at times. He thought the staff was being unfair. It was when he was not getting his own way. The staff are not pushovers like me, his mother. I would absolutely recommend Cornerstone to any friend or family member. They have every level of program to fit your needs. They are licensed by the State of California, accredited by JCAHO (similar to hospitals). They hired amazing staff, have beautiful facilities that cost money to operate at this level. In comparison to other Southern California and National treatment centers, that I have checked, the detox, residential and outpatient are very moderately priced. Cornerstone was the best experience of my life. I had a horrible coke problem and am proud to say I was a year clean and sober yesterday. The case managers care so deeply about every patient there. They don't candy coat anything though. If you're wrong, they will put you in your place, which is exactly what you need when you have been living by your own rules for so long and need someone to help direct you in the right way again. The drivers, the staff, at the facility and who live in the homes with you are all amazing people. I swear, pick cornerstone if you need help. My parents had to choose between getting a new roof and sending me to rehab, and if you ask them, cornerstone was the best money they ever spent. They got their kid back. I got my life back. Everything here is done on a "he said, she said" basis and patients are NOT provided an environment in which they can truly recover. The only time I ever heard from my child's case manager was when she called to try to weasel more money out of us!! They charged us a large copayment to begin treatment and we were later told by our insurance company that we were covered 100%!! They take advantage of families at their wits end and prey upon them to the maximum of their ability!! My child was going from one level of care to one less stringent and his case manager told him"good, go hang yourself!!" There is no integrity in this organization and the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing!! The story changed every time someone was questioned about billing or treatment modalities!! I've been a client for the last 8 months. Went through their whole rehab program which includes: detox, redesidential, extended care, and finally sober living. Overall, the program is pretty good except for the administration. They're not on the same page and communications seems to not be there since a few staff will know about something, while the others don't. This is especially true when "planned" events are organized or when a client is suddenly dropped from the rehab because of their insurance. Clients have gotten just a few hours notice for some. I don't know how insurance works but from noticing it happening a lot, it doesn't look very good. Another thing is that a lot of their houses that they manage, need some kind of work or fixing but just doesn't seem to get fixed in a timely fashion. This is due to having only two maintenance guys for the over 20 houses Cornerstone owns. At every house I was at, there was something that needed to be fixed, like a bathroom fan, window screen, lock on one of the inside doors, etc. Only a few of these things were fixed, after a few months that is. The rest, is still waiting to be fixed and the clients have to do without for the time being. It should be Cornerstone's responsibility to hire more people to fix these things in a timely fashion, not months and months later, if it does in fact get fixed. But, Cornerstone's number one priority as a for-profit company, is to make money. Along with that, they ask for $1200 in the hopes that they can get the "full" amount for rent. This is all at the discretion of the billing department and each client pays differently. I'm not sure if this is due to favoritism or something else. Some clients have paid as low as $400/month, while others have paid the full $1200/month. That's a $800 difference! As for me, my starting price was $1200, then went to $800. After my parents cut financial support, they still wanted $800 while I only worked 2 half days a week. Somehow, they just couldn't lower it anymore. When I asked about other clients getting more discounts and paying less, all Aleesia(I think that's how you spell it) said was that they were lying to me, even though I have spoken to these clients myself. When they say that every client is evaluated differently and in so doing, given more or less of a discount, it's only partly true. I couldn't make the $800/month because I don't make enough money but somehow I get to end up paying more than someone else who has more money but pays less. So if you're thinking of going to Cornerstone, just remember to say that you can't afford that much due to blah blah blah and they'll give you a discount on sober living. Don't mention other clients paying less because that's one of their pet peeves. I'll be saving you money! So overall, the program is pretty good since it got me sober but the administration sucks. I'm not alone in this and after being surrounded by other clients almost 24/7, this is a common belief. read more

The staff at detox/ inpatient was always available , attentive and caring. I'm happily clean n sober today thanks to Cornerstone and the twelve steps and sponsorship. Cornerstone is a business like any business but a business with good intentions and wanting their clients to achieve and maintain sobriety. So if you had a problem with Cornerstone or your loved one was not successful there, simply take a look around and try somewhere else and seek a solution. I felt obligated to post this review when I saw negative reviews stating that Cornerstone will try to keep you in the program longer for more money. The case managers don't make more money by keeping you in the program longer. If they advise you to stay longer it's because they want to make sure you're ready. I would give Cornerstone five stars but to do that it would have to be "perfect" and I don't think anything is perfect but, in my opinion, it certainly is an "excellent" program. I see all these negative reviews about how bad all the case workers are, how dirty the houses and facility are, etc. and I don't know who they are talking about. My son has been there for several months (he's in the alternative sentencing program) and I've seen none of that. He's been in a few different houses (all were clean) and had several different case workers who all have been very good. I have to give a special shout out though to Maria Carter. We love Maria. She's great!! All the counselors are excellent but sometimes you connect with a special person and for us that's Maria. Anytime we've had a problem she's always been there to help and has bent over backwards for us which means so much when you're in crisis and don't know which way to turn. Maria is the best!!! I think the people who are complaining most in the negative ads aren't really wanting to get clean and sober. They resent being there and wouldn't be happy if were a five star hotel. read more

Beautiful Main office and very nice people. However, there is no treatment plan, no therapists to speak to, no explanation of drugs they give you, old food that sits on a counter all day uncovered and no strategy to improve ones life. I went to detox for what I thought would be three days and was drugged up so bad on valium that i could barely talk or walk. Never saw a therapist, went to "meetings" that were an absolute waste of time and were run by uncaring and incapable staff. A truly horrible experience and a facility that should be investigated.....please look for alternatives as there are much better treatment centers out there. read more

My husband & kids checked me into Cornerstone on May 26, 2017. I had never been to rehab, this was my first time. My feelings we're all over the place! I was angry, hurt, & scared, cause I didn't know what to expect. As I was driven away in a white van, I felt like a prisoner. I got to a nice home ( Detox) but felt more scared & nervous. But now I am truly grateful that my family loved me enough to put me into treatment, because it was the best gift they could have ever given me. My case manager Maria was honest & kept it real. I loved our group meetings with Mike & Juliette. After moving into extended care, once again I didn't know what to expect. I liked the house that I was in, & I especially liked attending the classes. They were so educational & informational. I took so much away from this program that will help me as I continue my journey of sobriety My case manager was Michele. She was awesome! She was a straight shooter, & I loved that about her. No sugar coating with her ! I did a 30 day inpatient program & 2 weeks of outpatient IOP. I enjoyed every minute of it! I've been sober for 15 months, and I owe it all to the counselors & case managers at cornerstone. Spent 49 days at 3 different recovery homes while at Cornerstone. Expensive (I had to foot the entire cost), but overall, worth every cent. I was going through both ethynol and benzodiazapine withdrawls the morning of my admission. I was immediately examined by an M.D. and given the correct meds to ease the living hell of cold turkey AWS. For the next 7 weeks or so I was able to get the tools to help me deal with 40 years of drug abuse. I'm still not perfect, but a Damn sight better than ever before. If you are experiencing the sickness of drug addiction I can recommend Cornerstone as a place to start down a darn long road to recovery and sanity. Oh, don't expect any coddling, or an easy go. After they told me there would a strip search and I said "no" they were so rude. I wish I could remember the young ladies name that said, "what, have you never been naked in front of men before?" Then when I decided to walk out the same "girl" said, "you know your wife isn't going to come pick you up". So thoughtful. I could tell they really had my best interest on their mind. I am forever grateful for the foundation of recovery I received at Cornerstone. Relapse is not part of my story and I attribute part of that outcome to my case manager Irma Villapando. She recognized that my family and I saw relapse as inevitable until she took the time to teach us otherwise. I was reading most of the one star reviews for fun. A common theme was among them. You guys that are bitter have a difficult time following rules. If you want to get sober, follow the rules. They know what they are doing. Also, "they are all about money" came up quite a bit too. No S! It's a business! Just more people looking for hand outs. The problem with this state and country. Cornerstone saved my life, along with many others. While we don't agree with everything they say or do, they know what they are doing. "I couldn't have my phone". Boo hoo. "The food was gross" boo hoo. "They put all of my belongings outside Because I couldn't pay." Well, ya..you couldn't pay! Go whine and cry somewhere else. It's not easy getting sober. This place has really gone down hill. They are very understaffed and overworked which becomes apparent when dealing with them. They are horribly rude, condescending, and completely unprofessional. They gossip about the clients right in front of the other clients. There is no follow up or follow through. The case managers are a bit better, but they never have time for you. They will keep you there longer than needed so they can collect the insurance. It's a good program, but the staff is the problem. read more
