Definitely an amazing place to go to school. I miss the beautiful campus, the gorges, college town, and even the classes. Ithaca is filled with things to see and do, and that's saying a lot for a fairly small town in upstate NY. read more

The courses which I have taken at Cornell have exceeded my expectations with higher education in reconstructing a curriculum for the advancement of societal concepts. The learning goes beyond the textbook and projects, with field studies meant to access data and social norms. I really enjoyed my professors and teaching assistants, along with their dedication to their craft. read more

I would never let my children go to Cornell. 6 suicides my first year, then I lost a good friend my Junior year to the gorges. As a student researcher, I was cheated out of authorship on every single research project I brought grant money and my talent and passion to, both in the Vet School and Biotech. As an on-campus employee, I was cheated out of a fair wage and worked minimum wage. As a student, I was cheated of having good lecturers and teachers who were instead replaced by sycophants with research credentials. As a graduate, I have been unable to find gainful employment for over a year with my "brand name" diploma. Save your money. Save your time. Save your youth. The cold winters and repeated stresses of a worthless education have shortened my life span. read more

I'm biased because honey's father teaches here, but I love the buildings. They are so grand. We got to jog the campus in winter and just watching each snowflake and the gust of snow filled air flow through the crack of each building was so beautiful. I appreciate the humility of the campus's layout. It's just so beautiful, it doesn't have to do anything but stand on its own for us to gush about. read more

We rule! Sure all our sports teams suck. But we've got the prettiest campus and coolest music dorm. And the kids who don't flunk out are either smart or crafty; either you stay in b/c you deserve it or you've figured out a way to cheat the system. Either one is fine. We're not coddled like those sissies at Harvard, where it's impossible to get in but when you do you've got a giant safety net under you. read more

Wow, Deb wrote a review of Cornell! That is so cool. I haven't gone to Cornell, so I have no right to review it, but I think I'll give it five stars just to amuse myself. I did visit there once, in the dead of winter, and was most impressed by the ambience: the plunging, dramatic gorges, the snow-covered cemetery, the gothic stone buildings suggesting grandeur and romance and a sense of history. I couldn't help thinking what a great college campus it would be on which to wander around thinking romantic, self-indulgent thoughts... at least, I'm sure that's what *I* would have done had I gone there. Oh, I should add, the friends I have who've gone there are the best, so Cornell must be doing *something* right :-) read more

Cornell is a great place to get your undergrad. I spent a great 4 years here. There is so much good to say about Cornell. It's indeed beautiful (the t-shirts don't lie, ithaca is GORGES), the freshman dorms are amazing, and the dining hall food up there is great. Junior and senior yrs, staying in collegetown is great. Many great restaurants, despite there being too many asian restaurants (even as an Asian, I thought it was a little too Asian dominated). Social life is great as the campus has a huge population and people of all types can find a fit. Despite its huge population, everyone is centrally located either in on-campus housing or in collegetown. Collegetown makes it easy to bump into friends and acquiantances all the time and really gives you a sense of community as it is impossible to go to class or eat in collegetown without bumping into someone you know. The bars, although there aren't too many, each have their distinctive feel and you will always have a place to go depending on what you want. Stellas - Expensive loungey, classier place, Dino's - Party w/ DJ atmosphere, Ruloff's - good and cheap drinks, traditional bar, Level B - Dancing, Chapter House - laidback, cheap beers, and i never really went to the palms. That's the great social side. In regards to academics, career, and personal professional development, Cornell hits the right note in the right way in almost every way. The academics: although opportunities for undergrad research was limited and most professors are standoffish, you get a monstrous course selection with good material, amazing access to resources (huge mostly newly renovated libraries, new computer labs, science labs, simulators, and a billion specialized things i don't know about), all in aesthetically pretty and reasonably technologically advanced buildings. The work ethic at Cornell is really amazing and really pushes every student to his/her max. It is not uncommon to see truly gifted students who also work very hard. It is also common to see less gifted students who work very hard to keep up. It is also common to find students that cut corners and use negotiation skills to get through assignments and then cram for tests. You come out with an amazing ability to get things done and meet your bottom line, whatever way is necessary or whatever way works. All the different types of students were all great to learn from. Career wise, you are built with strong networking connections among students (the outcome of a solid social setting), a good alumni network and great access to recruitment into top companies (for the more ambitious/top students). Really, the only downsides are that many people complain and get grumpy a lot about work between Sunday night and Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Although I've never experienced undergrad anywhere else, I do believe that we got more work than most other places. People also complain and get grumpy about the weather at times, but you can't really do much about that. At least you learn to get physically tougher. All in all, that's a neglible downside if you don't let it get to you. The student body is great and the system is great. The resources are top notch, reputation is good (i've found that most people are impressed once you leave ithaca) and the bottom line is that you come out a better person and that's what most people are looking for in an undergraduate university/education anyways. read more

Spectacular natural setting with the gorge, waterfalls, etc. I would give it five stars but I find some of the buildings a little uninspired and disjointed compared to those on some of the other campuses of the so-called "Ivy Plus Group" of universities. Not that there are not a lot of great buildings though. Also, some of the fraternity houses are architecturally interesting. read more
