This gym has it all. Before I started out, I was badly out of shape and the concept of a gym itself…read morewas alien to me. I often wondered how people did up all their programmed and stuck with it. After the first few weeks, it became clear that I had found the right place. The two instructors have an in-depth knowledge of the body and how it works - what is good for one may not be good for another etc. They tailor their programmes to suit individuals who may have injuries etc. No one is left behind. The six week cycle that they employ works very well - with test weeks occurring after each 6 weeks so you can compare results and see the improvements you have made (and you definitely do make them!). the attention to detail is what I like most, with each class incorporating a warm up of the muscles that will be actively used in that session. Cork gyms has become (from my viewpoint) a saturated market place but if you are looking for guidance and the best way to improve (like I was, coming from a base of nothing), I genuinely could not recommend this place enough. You will gain in strength (a given), but coupled with the fact that there is a HIIT (conditioning piece) incorporated within each session, this will also drastically improve your fitness levels. I was a slob before I started here and have no issue admitting as much - but thanks to the lads, I have regained confidence in myself. Finally, and this is of critical importance in my eyes, there are absolutely NO ego's in the gym. Before I joined, I had a vision in my head of meat heads staring people out of it for being inferior to themselves. This could not be further from the Truth - every person up there encourages each other - regardless of ability - and this is what pleased me most and continues to please). If you are thinking about a gym and are unsure, do yourself a favor and get in touch with either of the lads for a trial session even (free of charge). I can guarantee you will not regret it and you will become gripped instantly. Easily the best decision I've made with my lifestlye over the last 18 months was joining DTF and I thankfully feel all the better for it.

Brilliant gym and a great community atmosphere in there…read more I've tried the whole gym thing a few times over the past number of years and always got fed up and frustrated after a few weeks. The setup in DT Fitness is great. The owners Adam and Colin know every member by name and are very helpful and welcoming. It's class orientated with set times so you go and get your workout done. Everyone does the same class together (Adam and Colin can alter it for your needs also) which makes it much easier and everyone talks to each other and keeps spirits up. The classes are well structured and measured so you can see really see your improvements over time. They focus on all key areas: strength, cardio and flexibility. It's been over 6 months now and I'm still going a few times a week. I'm at the point now where I look forward to going to the gym. I've seen a tremendous improvement in my strength and fitness since I started going and can't wait to improve even more.

Some members of staff here are absolutely horrible, they're so rude. Whatever you do, don't be…read morecaught on your phone (even if you're looking at a program or reading something) because you'll get given out to and shamed in front of the whole gym. I've seen people get their stuff and leave because of this. Some members of staff are not very helpful at all. The new equipment is okay but the whole gym feels very cluttered and you can't work out in peace because you're constantly looking around to make sure nobody bashes into your barbell or that you don't hit anyone. At peak times, this gym is a nightmare. The queue for the benches, racks and dumbbell area is ridiculous. One can wait up to 10-15 minutes before a piece of equipment is available. Also for the past few weeks the lights on the outdoor running track have been turned off very early, about 5pm. We have nowhere to run. We can't use the upstairs indoor track because it is too small and gets crowded very easily. The pool is a nightmare. There seems to be kids classes on constantly and that leaves 2 lanes and an open area for the members. You can't enjoy a swim because of the sheer amount of people in it. Honestly, spend your money elsewhere. The Mardyke Arena just isn't worth it

The mardyke is a great gym, it has pretty much everything; gym, pool, sauna, steam room, cafe,…read morerunning track, astro turf, squash court, basketball courts. the gym is really good, a load of machines, a separate free weights section with two racks and dumbells up to 50kg, about a gizillion treadmills and bikes. Theres also a separate 'elite' section, and a separate women's gyn (not too sure whats in there though) you see all shapes and sizes in there, yesterday a guy was benching about 180kg and the next guy to use the bench was struggling with just the bar. It gets busy enough between 6.30 and 8.00 but not unbearable. The staff are pretty good by and large, its always spotless, parking gets seriously busy at peak times, all in all a fantastic place to train. Splashworld has 2 big slides for kids one dark and one light that have twists and turns. It has a small slide into the main pool ideal for young kids. There is a toddlers area aswell with slides and such in a child themed way. there is a small lazy river for kids and adults alike. Every 15 or 30 minutes there is a wave machine turned on which can be enjoyed by all but i wouldnt recommend for toddlers. There are lifeguards on duty at all times including the 2 big slides. There is a sauna(steamroom) in the pool area for adults to relax and a viewing area for the non swimmers. And if your staying in the pebblebeach resort you can get a discount for your trip to splashworld. Splashworld is great entertainment for all the family. They also cater for those who want to actually swim rather than play in the pool, dedicating times for lane swimming both early morning and after work. A swimming club uses the pool regularly also. Upstairs is a fully equipped gym. Great family friendly changing rooms. In addition to one-off usage, various memberships are available, including short-term membership for summer holidays. Thumbs up all round.
