I knew that he would be excited about learning, but I didn't know that I would thoroughly enjoy it too! She has a way of really breaking down the concepts to make it approachable and easy for everyone to understand. Her house and backyard make for the perfect setting to get some hands-on practice. We found ourselves taking the camera out the very next day to work on what we learned, and that inspiration is the mark of a great teacher! 8/16/18 This is the second class I've taken from Cork and Click a couple of friends and myself took the Seattle Night Shoot it was so much fun, there were only four of us in the class that evening so it was nice to cause Christiana was able to give us all the guidance we needed. It was nice to take everything from the basic class we took last year and learn to apply it all together. We started at the sculpture park near Pier 70 and then headed to Pier 60 to capture the city and ended the evening at Kerry Park. She taught how to adjust our ISO, shutter speeds and aperture as well as our flash intensity. It was rewarding to get photos that I often dreamed about or admired that others had taken. She also gave us some tips on doing creative lighting shots with our cameras. One thing I really enjoy about her classes is she makes them fun, you don't feel intimidated and want to keep experimenting and playing with your camera after the class is done. To me that's success. Looking forward to taking her portrait class next. I had purchased a package during the holidays for a friend and myself for the basic class. It was a Christmas/birthday gift to my friend and so worth it. Had a great and educational time with friends this afternoon learning from Christiana and Ben. Walked away feeling so much more confident shooting in manual and using aperture, shutter speed, ISO and metering. Combining wine tasting and a photography class is a perfect pairing I think the wine tasting helps loosen people up and makes them less afraid to ask questions. Everything was explained clearly in terms that we all could understand and they made everything very approachable. They even say if you don't understand something don't feel bad asking more than once. Look forward to taking another course in the future. read more

FACTS: - my husband and I attended this class and shared one camera between the two of us (which worked just fine for us) - the group was about 8-10 students to 2 trainers - we got as much 1:1 attention as we asked for - the trainers showed us on our own camera how to complete each exercise - we learned both theory and practice - we bonded with our classmates, which was fun - we drank delicious wine and enjoyed beautiful spring weather (obviously individual results may vary for this one) After a single class, I went from knowing almost nothing about how to work my camera, to feeling like I know almost everything. What a fun, easy going, effective way to learn and get excited about a new hobby. Thank you so much - this experience was better that I had even hoped! read more

I took the comprehensive class on probably the worst weekend in the summer! The wind was blowing so hard that the power went out 5 mins into class. None of the students, including myself really noticed because this class is so hands on, that you are not stuck looking at powerpoint slides for several hours. It was informative, and is taught by a married couple Ben and Christina. They keep the classes small, so all of the students are walked through the proper exercises, and they make sure the students understand the lesson. There were a few couples in the class, but this would also make an amazing girls day out with a group of friends! I took the class alone, and did not feel awkward or "Third-wheel" in any way. This class was the best photography class I've taken. Christiana is a great instructor, super down to earth and fun. She is so patient and broke things down easily for us. The location was so great which gave us opportunities to try the different concepts that were taught. We had lots of time to really experiment with the different camera settings. What a great way to learn about your DSLR camera! This hands-on class helped me change my "auto" focus setting for the first time ever. I was amazed to quickly catch on to some minor adjustments that will dramatically change the images I get from my shots. Want to know about aperture...no problem! Christiana and Ben are really interested in ensuring everyone is learning - no matter what your pace. We even got a follow up note after the class with a tip Christiana wanted to be sure she shared. ***Beginning Photography Class Review*** I had the best time at Cork and Click! I've had my DSLR (Canon) for a few years now but have never been able to set it to anything but Auto. This year, my boyfriend bought me a class as a birthday gift and I was excited to finally try my camera on M. Christiana was great! She was really friendly and welcomed any and all questions (and with an intimate class of about 7, we were able to get a lot of one-on-one questions answered). Christiana taught us how to use our cameras, showed us some of her own photos as examples, and then we got to try it on our own at each step. I also got to learn what the other settings on the dial are for; who knew there were so many options?? I definitely left with a few skills under my belt (as well as knowledge of photography vocab) and a great starting point to start my practicing. As a graduation gift, Christiana gave out handy camera cheat cards that I can attach to my camera bag, in case I have trouble remembering what we learned. Cork and Click also offers other classes for more advanced photographers, and with their new studio about to open this summer, they'll be able to offer an even larger variety of classes. I definitely want to go back once my skills improve. Great introductory class to photography! ***To add to the fun, we were able to enjoy a wine tasting from Patit Creek and they offered a 10% discount for Cork and Click students, which I definitely took advantage of. I took the basic photography class and had a great time! Ben and Christiana kept everything interesting, and in between topics, spent time with each person in the class, making sure they understood the settings of their cameras and making suggestions as needed. I don't know how many times I heard "Oh, I get it now!" as people started understanding how their cameras work outside of "full auto" mode. The fact that we were hanging out at a tasting room was just icing on the cake! I ended up hanging out after the class and brought home a half a case of wine. Had a wonderful time at this class yesterday. I have been wanting to take a photography class for a while now and was so pleased to leave with some new skills to master. I appreciated that the first part of the class was broken out into three sections - aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. And then Christiana combined all three of those aspects and talked about using the Manual setting. While I'm not there yet, I am inspired and feel much better equipped to get out there and start shooting "off auto"! Don't expect to leave this class feeling like a pro, as Christiana mentioned, it has taken her years to be confident in her photography skills. But DO expect to leave this class feeling like you're better armed to take advantage of all the features your camera may have to offer. My one piece of feedback would be to have more practice time shooting during the class - maybe set up multiple stations so 2-3 people can practice at a time. Regardless, that doesn't affect my rating because it was still great and I highly recommend! These guys host a fun class!! read more

OMG. I used to look at people's pictures and think, how did a photographer make that person look as cool as he or she did? Sometimes it's not the photographer, sometimes it's genetics, but for those people on the cusp, a good picture can make the difference. Christiana has given me insight on how to use my camera as well as photography in general. Taking one of her classes is a great way to spend an afternoon and I have heard from people that have been at her night class that it's super fun too! What a great pairing! You had me at wine + learning. If only all classes came with some wine. Learning would be more laid back and enjoyable. But more to the point, Christiana and Ben were wonderful in helping me move the needle from complete novice to confident and curious learner as I dived into my newly introduced skills in Lightroom and Photoshop. I LOVED my class with Cork & Click! I signed up for the Comprehensive class as I had previously taken a Basic class from Glazer's where I did learn what the basic buttons on my camera meant, but I learned little else. Christiana and Ben are a lovely, warm, couple and her teaching style is super approachable so you never feel like there's a stupid question as a beginner. It was exciting to learn how to properly focus and the differences between aperture and shutter speed and what it means to your picture. I've always wanted know how to make images jump out from backgrounds, and also how to see drops of water in waterfalls, I got those tools too, and a lot more! Am I a pro at it... not yet, BUT I feel like I have tools to Get Off Auto! Beyond that, we got to taste some yummy wines (ended up buying 2 bottles!), and got a GREAT keepsake for my camera bag. Even without the wine, the class would have been great! I can get easily intimidated by (1) technology and (2) the anticipation that I'm not going to grasp said technology. Christiana and Ben created an atmosphere where we felt comfortable saying we had no idea how to put into practice what we just learned and they astutely picked up on the "deer in the headlights" look some of us had during parts of the class. The two of them tag teamed the seven of us in the class and made sure we each were able to execute the concept before moving on to the next. I have been interested in taking photos for about 2 years now, which is when I got my first camera. Despite the photography blogs and books I read, I wasn't able to make my camera do what I wanted it to do. I have been frustrated trying to self-teach how to use the buttons on my Canon for some time now. Last Saturday after just a few hours in a very casual and hands-on setting, I was/am ready to get off of the point-and-shoot setting - I won't be going back! This was a great introductory class to learn how to effectively use my new Cannon T5 to take awesome pictures. Who knew you could take much better photos by not ever using auto?! The class was informative, entertaining, and allowed time for practicing each concept while it was fresh in my brain. I attended the Comprehensive Photography class offered by Cork & Click on November 7th. Despite the dreary (and typical) northwest weather, we had an excellent time! During the class, you will learn how to better use your camera while tasting a variety of wines - which were all delicious! Christiana is an accomplished photographer with the ability to teach others how to use their cameras, apply the correct settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc) and offers hands-on training right there during the class. Class sizes are small and intimate, which allows you to ask any questions you might have and explore the concepts she teaches. I highly recommend this experience - and I intend to take other courses she offers in the future, including her post-processing class as well as the night classes offered during the spring and summer months. read more

I have been wanting to learn more about my camera since I bought it. I use the auto and sports mode only. A friend planning a trip to Europe suggested the class. It was completely worth my time. Ben & Christiana have come up with a really innovative and enjoyable experience to take the fear out of learning photography and making this a fun, collaborative and informative class! Before going here, I was impressed by various professional photography techniques, but was intimidated by the technical jargon and knowhow imparted in manuals or other training classes. Cork & Click made the exercises and explanations easy to follow, all while tasting some great wines, and provided us tips and tricks that were valuable in our day to day lives. This is by far the best comprehensive class to photography I have attended (tried two classes before this) The classroom setting was small and intimate, every question was welcomed and answered patiently. The class packs in lot of good information where one feels satisfied when they leave at the end of it, I learnt a lot about my camera and infact Christiana was able to correct a few of the settings I had done while "thumping" around; resulting in mediocre pictures. Of course Christiana and Ben were super friendly, easy to talk with and were very knowledgeable in their field to provide clear crisp answers Since their class I have the confidence to carry my camera and practice shots to get to a better place.
