I have had bullying issues with my child being on both ends and the school has not only contacted me immediately but helped resolve the issues, whether is be a meeting with teacher/principal, a phone call, or a sit down with other parents. They do have high turn over for principals but it has never really caused us any issues. And they do stress attendance but I cannot imagine any school not. Anyone at that point could have picked up my girls from school . There was no verification at pick up and no introductions- how incredibly infuriating! Noticeably , there was a very tall blonde lady lurking around who I later found out is the the founder of the campus and goes by "Dr Kim" who I wouldn't even call a doctor . Where has this lady been all these years??? The next day , I approached Kim Huynen (goes by "doctor") and told her that we, as parents, deserve the RIGHT to know what has happened to our teachers and our school, to which she spastically responds "No , I don't have to tell you anything . I can close down this school today if I wanted to." What kind of person says this ? Other parents emailed her and/or voiced their concerns to her face-to-face. Via email , she would politely and politically respond with a blanketed statement, "happy to talk to you" copy and paste response. When she was approached in person , there was nothing but disdain for the parents . She's a natural fake , you see? If Kim can verbalize and demonstrate that much disdain for parents , imagine the stress, anxiety , fear she is putting on her staff ever day. My children's beloved preschool is gone. It was built up by all her wonderful teachers (Ms Christina , Ms Michelle , Ms Nansy, Ms Emily) for all those wonderful years and it's all gone. The director and teachers have been abruptly forced out along with their students . However, I understand that Ms Christina is still there (reduced to fewer hrs) and my daughter misses her terribly . It's been over two weeks and she still references Ms Christina's sayings, sings her songs , talks about her lessons , misses all the cool conversations she had with Ms Christina. And I can't fault Ms Christina for staying . Everyone has to do what's best for their family . But if you're looking for a great program - this is no longer IT . All that's left are preschool-aged children who's parents teach at the campus and a couple kids on scholarship ($$$$$$). And all my family and I have left are the beloved memories of an incredible , play-based , educational program that once was. My daughter always used to come home with dirt under her nails, sand in her shoes, sticks in her hair , paint on her clothes , rocks , leaves, flowers she used to pick out and collect for me at the end of the day, and/or change of clothes . Children learn through play- that's their occupation. She was playing , learning a TON, and always having fun at Del Sol Preschool. The preschool environment was constantly changing and stimulating for children. No child was ever left behind under the care of the preschool staff. They actively worked to create a welcoming, safe environment for students of many different languages and cultures that celebrated diversity without sacrificing the program quality. All that came to abrupt end when the corrupt Kim decided to throw her weight around and ruin the lives of children and their families for some reason unbeknownst to me . Good luck finding out why that is... she will give out various reasons (she's a good talker) but none of which to be true when they supposedly run as a non-profit AND the preschool program enrollment was as high as it was . So whatever excuse Kim gives you, it's a lie . She's got a hidden agenda or to hide something unfathomable. This Kim lady is horrible and the existing preschool / new preschool teachers have to deal with her fraud-like ways - how very sad . Unless they're part of the corruption- who even knows? I wouldn't put anything pass Kim at this point. I've called licensing to complain and I've been informed that the preschool has been given a citation. Look at my reviews - I hate to complain. I even gave the preschool program 5 stars just last year. Of course now, they are probably doing their best to be in compliance knowing that parents have been complaining. I'm sure there are many parents that are left with more confusion/questions than answers . So I'm going to help out those parents and hope that they see this. Moving my children to Valley Christian I high school was a game changer. I expected it to take…read moremonths, but the change in my first child was nearly instant (volleyball practices prior to school starting). She found good friends of great faith. 8 years later those friends are significant and living lives of goodness and meaning. As COVID began, we moved our youngest child to Valley Christian. He immediately recognized the kindness and love in the teaching staff, his peers, and the families. The Valley Christian schools have been a true gift to our family. My wife and I long ago agreed that there is no better way to use our limited resources.

Is Valley a Christian school in name only?…read more If you are thinking about placing your child here, I can give you some insight. My wife and I were so green her freshman year. I could barely contain my excitement. Giving our daughter the gift of a private school education seemed out of reach, but Valley was accommodating. We made it happen, and that year was epic! My daughter played four sports and did really well in all of them. She finished with a 3.9 GPA, and we could not have been happier. Then, prior to classes starting sophomore year, at the girls' volleyball tryouts, we encountered something that we had only heard about and, transparently, did not believe existed: The Dutch Mafia! A quick history lesson: Valley was founded in 1935, and its historical ties trace back to Dutch immigrant communities in the local area (like Bellflower and Cerritos) who established it as a Reformed Christian day school. Some of the families who founded the school are still there--hence the term "Dutch Mafia." Now, back to the volleyball tryouts. There are a lot of details that could tell the story, but to keep an already long review a bit shorter, I will say this: based on how they separated the girls, we knew who was going to make which team. To say it was NOT based on ability, skill, or team needs is an understatement. I couldn't believe what was happening, but I should have known what was to come because of a foreshadowing incident during freshman season. Our starting libero was taken out in the middle of a game and had to give her jersey to the backup--not because she was playing badly or missing balls, but because the backup's mother complained to the head coach that her daughter wasn't getting playing time. That player's mother is a teacher at Valley, and our starter never went back into the game. When the team lists were emailed out, we understood what was happening. Returning players and incoming freshmen who were related to staff and coaches were placed on Varsity, even though they frankly were not that good. Girls who had been in the program since freshman year were not even given roster spots because they were seniors, and Varsity was the only option for them. I did the math after the lists came out: 44% of the available positions were given to freshman players. So, the incoming "Dutch" girls were so good that they took up almost half the roster spots across all three teams? Not likely. There was also some controversy that ended up getting the Varsity head coach, Jeff Ornee, unfairly dismissed. I found out later that the loudest voice calling for his termination was the coach who took over sophomore year. She completely destroyed the program with team selections based on clear nepotism and favoritism. She is a teacher at the school, by the way, and did such a horrible job that she quit, leading to another teacher taking over. I had high hopes, but the current coach is even worse. My daughter was placed on the frosh/soph team for her first two years and JV her junior year. She didn't make the Varsity team her senior year, and by now, you know why. By that time, she was completely burnt out on volleyball and having breakdowns, feeling like she wasn't good enough. Thankfully, she transitioned to an uncoveted sport (track & field) and no longer wanted to play volleyball for Valley or her club team. Our story is uniquely ours, but I can tell you that it is not the only one, and by far not the worst. I have firsthand knowledge of others, but those stories are not mine to tell. I would like to say that the teachers, security, and staff working behind the front desk at Valley Christian School were some of the sweetest and kindest people I've met. This review is not a reflection of them, their hard work, or their good hearts. Valley has some awesome traditions (Christmas time is epic), and if you choose to send your child here, they will receive a top-notch education and awesome Christian experiences--as long as they don't play one of the coveted sports.
