Now that I know the park exists, i would definitely return for a quiet spot at the shelter after grabbing some food or coffee in downtown Parkville.

The…read morepark is famous for its picturesque beauty, walking trails that winds through forests overlooking the Missouri River. I visited the park in winter last yr and fell in love with it. Primarily I just hiked around but I saw many people bird watching, and enjoying the quiet nature as well. The best part is the scenic overlook that gives a beautiful view of the river valley, especially at sunset. When I visited the park, it felt calm and less crowded. That definitely makes it a nice place for families or anyone who wants a break from busy life. My suggestion to everyone one is to hike at this park and then head to the town of Weston to enjoy some hot wine at Pritle Wineries followed by amazing food at the O'malleys pub.

If you hike along the West Ridge you will climb up to the ridge and come up to some overlooks that look into Kansas. The park was unmanned on Indigenous Peoples Day, but folks were able to access the park. If you have pets, the park has a small dog park at the front end. Plenty of benches can be found along the lower trails to take a load off. Right now the leaves are turning into their fall shades and the birds that come in the fall are arriving for the birders that are on the hunt. Plenty of information can be found at the trail head. There are clean bathrooms. The water fountains don't work, but the taps do. The weather today was awesome. I will return.

There are obstacles that none of the dogs ever play on but they are cute regardless. It seems like the dogs just like to pee on them. There is a walking path for humans and benches and water fountain for humans and dogs! All flat running area and can get pretty muddy after it rains. But overall nice place!

This dog park is HUGE! There is a fenced in area to the left of the parking lot where you can let…read moreyour dogs run off leash, if you're unsure how they'll do in the open. Or you can venture out on the miles of trails to the right of the parking lot (off leash, as well). The trails in the open areas are pretty wide (think car width) & easy to navigate and follow. One of the trails even has some freshly laid crushed gravel. The trails through the woods are narrow but well packed down. However, If you have any mobility issues, you might stick to the open area trails as you're likely to encounter fallen logs or have to scale up a creekside when on the trails through the woods. Close to the parking lot, there are some obstacles set up so your dog would like ride on the seesaw or climb the A-frame. I've been at multiple times of day. The middle of the day seems to be a little less populated. It does get pretty busy towards late afternoon/early evening as people are getting off work. Parking can be sparse at that time. If so, people tend to park off the side of the road & walk over. Be sure to slow down & pay extra attention as you are coming or going as dogs sometimes venture into the parking lot or road. Especially in the parking lot between the fenced area & open area.

If you hike it right, you'll come up to a little waterfall that's pretty cool. One thing I'd warn, make sure your dog responds well if you venture off on a hike. We took Scout here when he was really small and he all but disappeared into the wilderness chasing birds... Took a while to find him! But overall, it's a good one if not a bit far away from downtown Lawrence (located out by the lake). The other dogs we've encountered are friendly, and it's got that overall nice Kansas-nature charm that you'd expect from the area.

Took my pup Jack to this park for the first time as we are new to Missouri. The park was a large…read morearea of trees, trails, and a small section of lake for dogs to swim. Jack is used to hiking back home in California so he loved the open space and trails within the forest. Jack also liked the small section of lake that the dogs can swim at, however the only downside is that there is no division for small and large dogs. I noticed the large dogs would gather around the smaller ones a lot causing some unwanted behavior and crowding. If the lake was sectioned into 2 areas it would be perfect. Overall a good experience and place to go in low traffic days if you have a small dog like me.

Those Maple trees are at their best from late September through early November, as Kansas City transitions through its seasons. The area is home to a main trail, which is roughly a mile long in distance and has some off shoots, if you have time for a side quest. You'll share these trails with other hikers. Dogs are allowed as long as they're friendly and on a leash. I didn't see any bikes. There is a small parking lot at the entrance. I don't think you'll have any issues finding a spot, but I can see it filling up at peak times.

The all dog side is much bigger than the small dog side. Leo enjoys going to both sides! The all dog side has an obstacle course although some of the equipment is broken. There are dog fountains on both sides. Dog owners at Leawoof seem to me more friendly than other dog parks in Johnson County. I've met some very kind people here and of course some paw-dorable dogs! Sometimes the park is closed when it rains a lot, I've gone a couple times and the gate has been locked. If you have a furry best friend, I definitely recommend taking him or her to Leawoof!

They've torn down all of the trees and are now building an entertainment center on the hill back there. This hill sits right over the park.
