Came to Thursday evening adventure yoga here. Despite the rain we had a great time. It was a…read morereally nice flow, some fun background music and then a free beer after! There's also a food truck parked outside and the DJ kept playing while we all drank our beers. Really beautiful setting for some nice evening yoga!

The dirt entry road should have been my first clue... If you are a true outdoor adventurous, and…read moreyou do not mind hostile style sleeping or dirt roads or just completely laid-back housing on your vacation. This is the place for you. For me, I should have read the small print! $$ First of all... The young lady at the front desk had to deal with me after I had not slept for 36 hours, I have to give her a very high rating for fixing my reservation and allowing me to sleep in one of the cabin room for one night instead of on a hostel cot in a unit with five other people. I did go out and make a reservation at a different establishment for the other two nights that I was going to stay in Boulder. Second of all, I just needed to sleep... So this was a perfect place to lay my head until the morning. The three stars is definitely for the staff as they were very kind and very accommodating. I don't know how to rate the room itself. The railing that led to my room was rickety so I did not use it to climb the stairs that were also questionable. The room itself and the bed and linen were clean, but the floor of the tub was so brown that I could not take a shower in it. The TV did not work, and there was no air-conditioning. They did supply a box fan, which I set up in front of the TV (that was not functional) and slept with the fan blowing on me all night. Yes, I was in Colorado, but during the summer it's as warm as Georgia! For those of you who hate your phone, this is the perfect place for you as there is NO... And I mean zero... Cell service. The bright side is, is that they do provide Wi-Fi So there you have it! Enjoy life, make lots of memories, and safe travels

Give yourself a day or two to acclimate to the 8,500 ft altitude. I promise you your first night…read moreof sleep will not give you any rest. The staff here is wonderful and there is even the Rustic Cafe inside the registration building to grab a quick bite all day. The YMCA backs up to Rocky Mountain National Park and the entire place is easy to navigate. If you want something out of the ordinary but in-line with history, check out the Lula W Dorsey museum which is also on campus and see all the history the Y has had to offer over the last 100+ years! This is a great place to unwind and really connect with nature. If you have ever heard of shrinyoku (forest bathing), this is a place to do it. Wildlife will hang around here at all times of the morning and later in the evening too. Most of all experience it all and make memories!

We held another family reunion here to commemorate the one we had 20 years ago. I'm going to share…read moremy experience and both positive and negative in hopes it's helpful info for other families planning a similar event. BOOKING AND RESERVATION PROCESS: 2 stars My brother booked and placed a substantial deposit over 2 years ago on a large reunion cabin and the adjacent large cabin. As the event neared, we met virtually with camp hosts who informed us that they can't guarantee we get the cabins we reserved. They'll "try," they said, but can't guarantee we'll get those adjacent cabins. Our only theory is the Y reserves the right to bump outsiders should an esteemed member want what we reserved. It all started off on a wrong foot, and combined with the impossible act of reserving additional cabins or rooms on April 1, when reservations open to the general public, it started to feel risky and like we made a bad choice. To me, it seems a reasonable add-on to the reunion booking process to allow us to book additional cabins in advance so we can find rooms for all family. Within minutes at 8:00 am on April 1, small cabins and most lodge rooms were snagged up. They also said we couldn't access the cabins until after 6 pm on arrival day. That meant we had to figure out a way to keep all of our food we purchased chilled until we could put it in our cabin's refrigerator. As it turned out, we did get the cabins we reserved/requested AND they were ready far earlier than our 5 pm arrival time. Total experience? Nerve-wracking. CABINS/ACCOMMODATIONS - 2 stars I get it - lots of large groups use this place. All the more reason to maintain them in a manner that is safe & comfortable for all. We had two sofas, one of which was unusable and a number of small issues that were eventually addressed. THE GOOD/POSITIVE: So much for youngsters to do, but be prepared to spend a lot of time driving kids back and forth to each activity. My "sense" was kids got to try a few new things, like horseback riding and archery, for an add-on fee. Good hiking trails. Downtown Estes (and an additional amusement park), are a short drive away in downtown Estes. Snack shop and little store on campus. All in all, maybe it's my age getting the best of me but I didn't find the accommodations very comfortable- just the 2 aforementioned couches, 1 of which was broken. All other chairs are wooden. So there's a point, as an adult, when the beauty of the mountains starts to wear thin when you're not as comfortable as you'd like to be. Bottom line? Go into it prepared. Try out a smaller cabin before opting to book for a huge reunion to make sure it will fit your family's needs. I wish they were a bit more accommodating and generous with furniture, etc., in their lodging. If you like Rustic, you'll love it here.

April 2014 - On our first trip back to Colorado since 2000, we were going to stop to inquire about…read morea room since we had stayed at Jade Inn 14 years ago. We pulled up and stopped in front of the motel, discussing which room we might have stayed in back in 2000. Just trying to get our bearings after driving down from Estes Park.... We were rudely approached by a yelling woman who claimed to be the owner AND a really strange looking guy who looked as though he could be on drugs, tagging along beside her. The woman said she was Jade (we knew the owners had a daughter named Jade which the motel was named for.) She wanted to know what we wanted and was not friendly about it. This woman was very paranoid and made us uncomfortable. My husband said "let's just go, we're NOT staying here!" As we drove away, we both commented about were they on drugs or something? Both of them looked pretty strange, especially the guy who was downright SCARY looking. His eyes were glassy. We are seniors, had our 2013 car packed for traveling with our little dog in the backseat. Our license plates were out-of-state so we posed NO threat to them. When we got back home from our trip, we looked into it further and found that J.D. Gould and his wife, Judy no longer owned Jade Motel but their daughter, Jade, does now. We found the obituary that J.D. died last year. Unfortunately, the daughter is not like her parents who had made us feel comfortable there. We won't stay there ever again.... what a disappointment as we loved it 14 years ago.
