Structural Integration and Rolfing really changed my life a few years ago, when chronic issues with my lower back seemed beyond repair. I was fed up with the "just take Advil and grin and bear it" routine. Rolfing is not massage, nor chiropractic work, but a manipulation of the connective tissue that can have quite transformative and lasting effects on your posture and injuries that may have otherwise seemed irreparable (the name comes from founder Ida Rolf). I did the classic 10 session Rolfing series a few years ago, and was looking for a boost when I went to Tracy. Note that she doesn't require you to sign up for a full series--even one 90-minute session can be extremely beneficial. Tracy's office space is warm and welcoming, and I felt very supported and comfortable in her hands. She is very knowledgeable not only about the body's anatomy, but also about how it should all work together as an integrated system. She treats issues holistically, so what you might think is a knee problem could actually stem from a hip mis-alignment, etc. Even though she has been a certified Rolfer for a long time, I was impressed by her commitment to continued training and enrichment with teachers in the United States and Canada. People who offer structural integration and Rolfing are generally more prevalent in larger cities, but if you have an injury or chronic pain, I would highly recommend making the effort to seek out a practitioner like Tracy (and obviously if you are Vancouver--go see her!).
