The pier itself was rebuilt after a hurricane wiped it out over a decade ago. There's a small aquarium with fish you'd find swimming underneath the pier itself, too, which is air conditioned, and a snack shop and huge gift shop. If fishing is your jam, they'll hook you up with everything you need for a day of casting and catching. Say hey to the friendly pelicans, maybe toss them a spare fish if you've got it.

It's the tallest living sand dune system on the East Coast, and the views from the top are amazing, especially at sunset. The visitor center has some neat exhibits about the history and ecology of the dunes, and the rangers are helpful with tips on where to go. People are out there flying kites or even taking hang gliding lessons, which makes it a lively place. Admission is free and it's a unique experience you don't want to miss.

There is a lookout at the end of a boardwalk area if you just want to take a few quick pictures. If you need a kite, Kitty Hawk Kites has a small shop at the park to grab some essentials. You can also skate down the dunes if you're adventurous. We had so much sand covering us once we got back in the car but it was 100% worth it. They do have a rinse off spot next to the welcome center/restrooms. Pro tip: baby powder will help you brush off sand once you're ready to head home

Harvey Public Sound Access, aka Harvey Sound Access or Harvey Soundside Park, is one of those places that you debate yelping because you kinda want to keep it a secret. But, Harvey Public Sound Access is a public park and information about it is already in the public domain so here we go . . . As the name implies, this narrow public space is located on the sound at Mile Post 16 and gives locals and tourists alike access to the sound. There is a launch here for small waterctaft like kayaks, jet skis, kite boards and windsurfing whatchamagigs. For those trailering their water toys there are several long parking spaces to accommodate that set up. If watersports isn't your thing this is a terrific spot for spectating! There are several picnic tables under a pavilion offering spectacular views of all the action on the sound. Unless you are wanting to reserve the park for a private event, picnic tables are first come, first served. It's not uncommon to see locals relaxing here while on their break from work. Amenities at the park includes the pavilion, bathrooms and a water fountain. I think there might be a grill and power outlet too. If you're looking for a place to swim in the sound this isn't it because there's not a beach per se. (For sound side swimming I recommend the beach on the south side of Jockey's Ridge State Park.) Overall, this is a wonderfully serene and entertaining spot in Nags Head.

There are improvements, especially behind the scenes that have helped this location. Our family lives in Nags Head. They have had a membership here for over 5 years since moving down from the Baltimore region. We visit this location every Summer that we're here. Truthfully, each time we have visited in the past, we have always been weary of getting anything from the kitchen or bar due to timing or severely over pricing. We tend to swing into the bar for a double of something to get us chilled, lay out for a little while, then scootch down to the beach. With this new management, there are more morning activities in the pool, a little cleaner facilities, and much better cost-effective options at the bar and kitchen. We were just in Nags Head for a week and visited this location multiple times with little ones and alone. Every time, we had a great time. Great drinks, nice change-up in menu options for the kitchen, and friendly staff all around. This location definitely needed an internal face-lift. Great Job! We look forward to our next visit.

Restrooms for Men and Women and a Family restroom as well. 4 outside shower heads and 1 private shower/ changing station . Spacious walkway leading you to the sand and ocean . It has a volley ball net out front near parking lot and a long bench on the decking to sit and enjoy the game . Large parking lot with handicap parking also a ramp Incase you can't do the steps ( though not many ) The only thing I can say this Access needs is bench seating at the end of the walkway. That way you can enjoy the beach without the sand if that's what you prefer . Also someone who is handicap could sit and enjoy the ocean for a while . No fun standing up !!! You can take the direct approach and just walk up the stairs if you want to. However, for the handicapped, there is no easy way of getting down the stairs to the hot sandy beach...most wheelchairs won't do well in soft sand. For those who did get into the ocean or are just covered in sweat, there is a shower at the bottom of the stairs. There is also a Portable Pottie too. This is if you can make it from the beach to the toilet. Hopefully it's not occupied. Your other two options are back to the place you're staying...or an aqua dump off in the ocean...its less messy...but... Anyhow, I have passed this parking lot/beach access many times but never thought about it. Guess when you are stay at another person's house, you notice things you might not have noticed before. Ths time is now 16:31 (4:31pm) and today has been a lazy day. I did go on the ocean, but I had to do it alone. Tomorrow maybe a different story. From the house I am staying at, I can see the comings and goings of family's visiting or leaving the beach.
