Coops Seafood was a great experience. We grabbed a pound of the Maryland Blue Crabs and they prepared them for us. We had some questions about the process to pick them and they were kind to teach us. There was a little patio with tables to eat them on and also a nice handwashing station you'll definitely afterwards. They seasoned them perfectly and we loved the sweet taste of the crabs. Our recent visit to Annapolis and Rehoboth Beach turned out to be primarily a crabfest of steamed blue crabs wherever we went. The absolute highlight of the experience was the stop at Copp's Seafood in Lewes, Delaware, just outside Rehoboth. We were looking to buy fresh crabs to take home and we found the right place. Copp's is a 50 year old red shack off the beaten path, with gravel parking lot and antique signs. The shop has a large refrigerated display case and lots of accessories for a fish oriented meal. The atmosphere was enough to make the time there worthwhile. We were introduced to Lisa Olivieri, an owner of the business and sales impresario extraordinaire. She and her fiancée were new owners, but had worked with the Copp family for years. Committed to maintaining the authenticity of the enterprise, they continued to purvey the best available inventory and carry forward with the rich ethos of dealing in only premium wares. We asked about the blue crabs in the house, and Lisa went to the back of the building to see what she had. She informed us there were a dozen and a half "Super" sized Blues, and she showed us one hanging by a claw to her thick red rubber glove. Lively fellow, Mr. Blue. She surprised us by offering to steam our purchase for no extra charge. Impressed by the catch and the generosity, we bought 12 initially, but came back minutes later to secure the last half dozen. All the while Lisa kept smiling and educating us about life as a fish monger after success in high tech sales. As she modestly said, "I can sell anything, why not crabs?" And, so, her new career commenced. Part of the buy included identify the spices and spice level we desired. She had many options and selected the right one for us - somewhat spicy, but not too salty. We waited outside while the beautiful blue beasts were turned rusted red by the steam heat. These were the best crabs we have eaten in a long time. The price, while cher, was less than any restaurant we visited around the Chesapeake. Thoroughly enjoyable. Noble sacrifice. Two and a half hour drive from Bucks, we agree that a return trip when crabs were desired was the only way to assure apex experience and flavor. This joint is a keeper! We ordered a 1/2 bushel of #1 crabs for Fathers Day. I called 4 days ahead to place the order and offered to pay for them up front. It appeared when we went to pick them up that they don't start cooking the crabs until you arrive. This could have just been because they were busy with Fathers Day so I don't know if this is a regular practice. The crabs were delicious! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there were 30 crabs in our half bushel. Normally a half bushel contains 3 to 3 1/2 dozen crabs. $240 for 2 1/2 dozen is pretty expensive. We also were charged $1.25 for the small container of extra seasoning. I know it seems trivial but I think when you're spending $240 it wouldn't have hurt to throw in the tiny container of seasoning for good measure and good business. read more

We have had crabs and shrimp from here before but the dozen large crabs we got today were not full at all and the shrimp were overcooked and hard to peel. For the cost should have been better. Service was good and I'm sure we will be back just hoped the quality was better today. read more

My husband purchased a beautiful piece of salmon from Copp's Seafood and a container of Hungarian mushroom soup this afternoon. We've had the soup previously and liked it enough to buy again! I cooked the salmon for dinner tonight and it was delicious! A bit of butter, fresh squeezed lemon, garlic, a splash of Hawaiian sauce, and some green and black olives! I went there today on referral from a neighbor and being a local. I was really shocked by what the older woman did and the pricing. The first item I ordered was six scallops, six shrimp, and the smallest piece of cod. I noticed when she was picking out the scallops she was looking very hard for the one I would say were the oldest, they were foul smelling, they were old and not fresh, and it was just one bite, we knew, these were not fresh, the shrimp were very old, mushy, and smelled very fishy, we attempt to cook them, and they were pure mush in your hand, the last thing was the cod, it was not fresh either. We are now out $30.00 and were speechless about the pricing. I would've been better off at fresh market or praying that the scallop boat was coming into the marina. As a local, I will be passing on this place. If an item is bad, you should not be handing it out to your customers. If a scallop is discolored and not bright, white and fresh and yellow in color, this should be discarded. Each item only way a half a pound. We are still trying to figure out the pricing as we did not receive a receipt. Best to go to fresh market. read more

Ordered and paid for #1s which are 5.5" and up. Got a mixed bag with at most 1/2 #1s and many as small as 4-4.5". I love what the new owner has done with the place, but having this many "mediums" mixed in a #1 order is not ok, as #1s are pricey. I did not call to complain and should not have to. A little seafood space sitting off John J. Williams Highway that offers fantastic prices on tasty morsels I can prep myself? Sounds like perfection to me. I was off work, my sister in law was off work, and my wife was working. Being recently married and wanting to bond with my new family (and knowing their love of clams) I went to Copp's and picked up 300 of them. I steamed them up and made some shallot butter. Way less expensive than a grocery store! My wife came home to find me and her sister 200 clams deep into the 300 I bought from Copp's with big smiles on our faces. Ordered Middle Neck and Little Neck clams for our very large Memoral Weekend Celebration. The clams were so good! The corn on the cob I bought was fresh and sweet, and already shucked in bags! Customer Service was very pleasant and moved fast in a timely manner! One thing, and it is a simple fix, I did not recall if one door was marked clearly "IN ONLY" and the other door, "OUT ONLY". I arrived the same time as an older man in the parking lot. I am a 66 year old woman. I was inside waiting before he went inside the store. But he saw people lined up at one door and went to the door that is postioned to the left side and clear of a person standing inside. When it came time for my turn, a worker said, Who's Next? Bless His Heart, he said, "he was." And that was not true. Should have been me. I just kinda smiled and thought, OK, right! I was in no rush, but it was the point. And the workers were clearly busy and depending on us customers to be honest, on whose next, as they should have. Maybe the doors clearly marked will eliminate any confusion on busy days for buyers like himself who think they are next in line when they sneak in the less occupied door. Don't let the looks of this shack steer you away! They have great seafood - so fresh (we love the salmon, crabs, shrimp, and mussels) and produce to go with it. They'll steam the seafood for you, if you want them to. You can call ahead, or they can do it there and you can either wait, or go back a bit later. Not cheap, but reasonably priced for the product you get. Once you get used to their stuff, you'll never buy grocery store seafood again. read more

We went to buy seafood here today. I went inside and my husband walked our two dogs on their leashes while he waited for me. The owners have two extremely aggressive dogs that charged out of the market and viciously attacked my small dog. Their german shepherd bit her several times around the neck and shoulders. We thought he was going to kill her. My dog was on a leash walking with my husband when the dog attacked her without provocation. On top of that both the owners then yelled at us and accused my husband of walking on their " private property" because he was doing a loop with our dogs around this public business. No apologies or concern for the welfare of our dog at all. We had to spend $1000 and 4 1/2 hours at the emergency vet in Dover to get her stitches and medicine, not to mention all the pain and fear she went through and is continuing to go through. Beware of this place. The owners are irresponsible dog owners with uncontrollable dogs. I tried to give no stars but wouldn't post review without at least one. read more

I spoke to a nice lady who provided availability and prices. I placed my order and upon arrival they were ready. Called up to see if they have crabs and the lady told me $35 for #2a and $55 for #1s. Stopped by and was told the #2s are $39 a dozen so I must have misheard her and ordered with medium spice. Waited for 15 minutes for them to steam them. Crabs were good but not too heavy with a lot of old bay seasoning, I'll order light the next time and hopefully they be be heavier. read more

Paid top dollar for supposedly "number 1" blue crabs but when we got home and opened the bag, the crabs were disappointingly small and light. Some were so small (4 inches) that they should have been thrown back--I don't like eating illegal crabs. Word to the wise: open up the bag and look at your crabs (even measure them!) During the summer it may be good, but on the shoulder season they are unreliable at best. I have driven there twice, once after calling and confirming they were open, only to find them closed during their advertised business hours. I usually buy clams and find them to be dirty inside and Sandy as well. Looking for a better, more reliable seafood market. read more

Best sea scallops and salmon that we had in a long time. My 6 year grandson is now in love with salmon.

I purchases crab claws on Saturday. I was asked at the time of purchase if I wanted seasoning put on the claws. That should have been my first clue. I elected no seasoning and upon returning home later that afternoon I had a few claws and they had a faint ammonia smell. I figured the claws were old that is why they were on special. I went to pick the claws Monday and they stunk of ammonia and were slimy. I returned and told the owner the following weekend and I was told it was my fault the crabs went bad as I didn't take them out of the plastic bags. That is total BS as the crabs were old and marginally bad when I purchased them. Save yourself the Hassel of getting sick....Buy your seafood elsewhere. I will NEVER buy anything from there again!
