La Junta-home to a major agricultural center of Colorado, small town atmosphere and the best local breakfast cafe anywhere in the state. From the moment you enter the narrow rectangle cafe, you are made to feel welcome by a friendly staff, honey is a key word in greeting customers.Great value in $4-7 breakfast items, great green chili, blueberry pancakes, steady coffee, a mix of farming, retired, local customers whom all know each other quite well. Copper Kitchen was also shown on the Food Network featured by Alton Brown (that food guy on Good Eats) for its counter with swivel chairs and old cafe style. Here, you take the bill to the cashier, the friendly owner rings you up and asks where you are from, and gives you suggestions on local activities (we went to explore the dino tracks in Picketwire Canyon) and he gave us a ton of printed information. After reading the 5 star reviews I came to the Copper Kitchen on my travels across Colorado expecting something worth while. What I found was worse than disappointing. The only positives were friendly staff and clean atmosphere. The coffee was terrible and only non-dairy creamer available. My father's poached eggs were uncooked and slice of ham was pre-packaged, processed, cheap, fatty, and COLD. My omelette was not an omelette. It was eggs cooked on a flat top with uncooked, cold ingredients folded inside. This from a diner in the center of an agricultural town? Disgusting. read more

I was told this place was great but my experience was horrible. I ordered a hamburger, and asked fro no cheese. They bought me a small not great looking burger with cheese. I asked if they could get me hamburger without cheese. By the time all my friends were done eating they bought me the same hamburger with some of the cheese scraped off. I was actually very hungry and kind of irritated about this. The waitress did not make any effort to make this better. I had to go back to class and went hungry all afternoon. My family is in La Junta for my husband's work. We've made the Copper Kitchen a Sunday morning tradition. The food is excellent and it literally makes it to the table in minutes! Its always busy but don't let that put you off. Its a very homey feel and after two times of being in there the staff know my family by our names. We went on Mother's Day and every mom that came in recieved a flower. Also every kid gets a quarter and a cup for the candy machine! Jewel of La Junta! Even though it was almost a full house, our delicious breakfast was on the table in minutes. Our waitress was genuinely nice and made us feel right at home even though we were obvious out-of-towners. The gentleman that took our payment was absolutely delightful and even gave our son a quarter for the candy machine. This place is amazing! My son and I were in town for a baseball tournament and needed a place to eat in between games. The staff could not be friendlier! Greeted as soon as we walked in and were catered to from the moment we walked in. We had a chicken fried steak sandwich and their version of a slopper. Caroline and Kelly are two of the best waitresses you'll ever find. I came through La Junta as part of a group of 16 Boy Scouts and adult leaders. We stayed overnight at the Koshare Indian Museum (great show!) I planned for us to eat breakfast at the Copper Kitchen versus the other options in La Junta which is fast food. Our group of 16 was seated immediately and serviced promptly. The service was good and they were nice enough to split our checks. I heard a lot of good things about the food from our group. I had the Huevos Rancheros with green chili and it was excellent. Several boys ordered cinnamon rolls and they were fantastic. My son ordered a side of corned beef hash and it was mediocre. Skip it if you are a hash fan. If we are in La Junta again we would definitely eat there again. read more

My children, husband and myself are all greeted by name and when we leave my kids are always offered a cup and a quarter for the candy machine. Traveled to La Junta with our daughter for her work and found this perfect cafe for breakfast, while waiting for her to finish. Breakfast was delicious with best pancakes we've had for a long time. Brought our daughter back for lunch and had turkey melts and husband had a Rueben. Sandwiches came promptly and were delicious. The staff was welcoming and friendly. read more

Amazing diner in a small town. Everyone who worked there was especially nice and courteous. Our waitress Carol was so sweet to my family. We got huge portions at a VERY good price. My son loved his Eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. My older two boys devoured their French toast and Chocolate Chip pancakes. I had a delicious Chicken fried steak/ eggs/ hash browns/ toast. My wife loved her Blueberry pancakes. After we were done, Carol asked each of my sons a history question that they each got and she gave them a quarter from her own tips for the gum machine or just to keep. My sons loved this great little diner so much they bought a T-Shirt that was sold promoting the Copper Kitchen. Yes, it was THAT GOOD. Very friendly atmosphere. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. read more

Stopped in for lunch on the way from SD to TX. Good selection of American fare... sandwiches, burgers, etc. Outstanding homemade chicken noodle soup, with delicious broth and lots of chicken. Real chicken. Not fancy, but definitely hit the spot! read more
