Dr. Makrum has excellent bedside manner, speaks to the children in a relatable manner, while being very gentle and calm as she explains what she is going to do. Our daughter loves going to see her and always asks when her next appointment is. Recently, our daughter chipped her tooth while playing on the playground. It was a Saturday and the practice was closed but we left a message on the emergency line. Within minutes, Dr. Makrum was calling, asking what happened, having us text photos and then recommended a course of treatment at an emergency dentist. She stayed in contact until the tooth was repaired and then had us come in the following week to inspect the work. You won't find a better pediatric dentist!!

Perusing the websites, the other pediatric dental offices seemed a lot more current and kid-friendly but I decided to give this one a go because the cost would be dramatically reduced by using insurance. I'm giving the overall experience two stars because the office was clean and the staff were pleasant. They were also timely with our appointment - nothing worse than having an interminable wait for the doc with a toddler. The dentist himself was nice enough too. Since this was our first appointment, we started with a quick meeting in his office where he explained what was about to go down. Except he left out the part where my husband and I would be asked to hold down our child as they cleaned her teeth....yes, we had to hold her down. A little scary, right? For the actual cleaning, the hygienist was friendly. But I thought it odd that they insisted on getting a full cleaning done on our very first visit. The dentist can be frightening enough when you're an adult - why make the first visit so intimidating for a child? The hygienist tried to acclimate my daughter to the kid-sized dental chair by showing her the polisher that she'd be using on her teeth. Well that didn't go over well and the crying began. But crying, screaming nor wriggling in fear would deter this hygienist nor dentist - I guess they've seen it all. That's when she informed my husband and I that she'd need help to keep our daughter still during the cleaning. It was our first time too so we followed orders thinking this must be normal. Luckily, the cleaning was over very quickly, but we still felt horrible after. I know dental care is important at a young age, but I left feeling like there's got to be a gentler way to introduce the dentist. Since then, I've talked to friends with young kids and most have had really positive experiences with the dentist. I've learned that having to help hold your child down during their first visit is not the norm, but rather the outlier. I'm not questioning this dentist's skill or experience, but I do think it's important for parents to know what they're potentially getting into and that there are other options out there for a more positive first dental experience. On both visits we found the staff to be exceptionally friendly punctual and attentive. Dr. Denisse is knowledgeable, compassionate and flat out amazing with children. My son has undergone multiple surgeries over the last several years and I feared how he would do going to the dentist given his medical experiences. I mention this because I was skeptical about whether Dr. Denisse would even be able to get him to open his mouth for her. Her warm, friendly and playful nature made it easy for my son to feel comfortable with her so that she was able to do the cleaning. We start care with this office, and after 3 visits all my child had received are x-rays, and a myomunchee (a $50 soft silicone orthotic I re-ordered from Alibaba.com). Besides giving us the myomunchee, our initial $2500 payment got us nothing - zilch. We signed a contract for getting a Mybrace, and there was no fitting or provision of the same. After 3 visits with no actual dental care, we called the office and wrote to them in October 2022, and informed them we no longer wish to continue the once a care. The office didn't acknowledge our termination notice, or give us a refund for services not provided. We don't hear anything from the office after, till the date I'm writing this review-over a year later in November 2023. This office has the audacity to bill us for care we didn't receive, **after** we told them we didn't want to continue with their practice. I called their office to rectify the situation and from the front desk's canned response, they clearly have done this before. Please look at other negative reviews about their nefarious billing practices.
