But this morning on a mission to try to eat better today, I discovered My Petite Factory. This place is a little gem with a variety of healthy dishes to try, some of these are decadent. To be honest, I could eat here for every meal and be thoroughly content. The use only fresh ingredients and make all of it from scratch. The footprint of this place is deceiving because when you walk in it looks like a tiny shop. But they do have seating downstairs if you want to eat in.

And for dessert I had a piece of pear & almond tart - vegan and gluten free. It was all very good. My friend had a chickpea tajine that was a little spicy and served with couscous. I only had a taste but it certainly left me wanting more. I really like that this place exists and is so close to my house. I do wish they were open for evenings and weekends though. (They do serve dinner Monday - Friday but it's by reservation only.)

It's more of a cafeteria than a restaurant but that's ok. But the food is after all just nice and nothing one couldn't make at home. It might deserve four stars for veggie-deprived France but for more vegetarian-friendly countries (i.e. anywhere but France) it's a bit disappointing, it misses the twist and some innovation. The prices range from around ten Euros for a big salad to nineteen for a set menu that includes starter, main and dessert, which I find a bit steep for what you get. So like my star dilemma, not sure if I'll go back despite everything that it has going for it.

We couldn't read anything on the menu (which was a chalkboard that they brought around) but an English speaking waitress talked us through it. I had what she called "the menu where you don't choose anything" which was a selection of all the vegetarian options they had that day (eight in total including Soup, Quiche, Couscous, a number of salads, hummus, cheese and others) and a dessert sampler plate of the four desserts that day. My meat-eating companion asked the waitress to bring him her favorite things had an appetizer of cheese toast with caramelized onion and herb spread and a roast chicken in sauce with rice for the entree. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. One note, my companion did not order a dessert and, therefore, did not get the menu/deal, so his food ended up being about 8 euros more than it would have been had he gotten the dessert. So be careful to order one of the actual menu options, not just a la carte. (This is good advice in France generally as everywhere has the "Menu" multicourse option that gets you the best price).

Live and learn, when you are on a super restrictive diet reservations are a must...went walking up the cathedral back down and then back up the hill to find a place to eat. Our first choice was full so we ended up eating here, which is rated top 10 restaurant in Lyon. By the time we got there it was 20:00 ish (15km of walking uphill later) we were jet lagged, tired and starved! The food was delicious but you can't be starving or in a rush...the portions are on the smaller side of things especially if it's your only meal of the day. I would recommend it but next time I'll make reservations for my number one choice i didn't get the chance to try.

The Vegetarian Food We've Had in France!…read more Well, we've only found one other place that was exclusively vegetarian. Nonetheless, the food was excellent! It looks like the menu changes regularly, so I'm not sure how helpful this will be. We each had the Minestrone soup, which was fabulous! It was a different take on what we expected, but we enjoyed it anyway! For plats we had the Buckwheat Gallette and the Assiette Gourmande. What that really means (in American food terms) is that the Gallette is kind of a savory thick patty made of vegetables and buckwheat on a bed of red cabbage and spinach in a savory asian influenced sauce. The gourmet plate was a large salad with various raw vegetables and sprouts under a delicious dressing (not too heavy); in the corner there was marinaded tofu dice and a side of french quinoa with a savory broth. Everything was very original and tasty! The clientele appeared to be mostly french hippies! The dining area is middle sized, probably seats a total of 30. Don't forget they are only do dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.
