Vanilla slices are a classic and always have been! Been a customer since I was little and I love the green frogs they did in the 80's

This is the sort of place that makes me fall in love with Leeds all over again, the little…read moreindependent places which do things in a time honoured way. This place is a little family run bakery, which is obviously very popular, and is just a little way off the centre (as it were) of Pudsey. It's not difficult to see why they are so coveted, as soon as you go in you are greeted by a super friendly team (I assumed a husband and wife team, but can't be 100% sure) ready to help you. I went in to browse and found myself instantly attracted to their lovely looking home-made preserves sets. The gentleman asked me if I was ok, which I was, and then apologised for having to turn on his mixer for a moment! It was lovely, and really wasn't a problem. As I had wandered in around 3pm ish the shelves were looking rather bare - the sign of a great bakers - and so I wandered to the glass counter at the front. I didn't want to walk out without something tasty. In the end I settled for a beautiful heart shaped chocolate brownie, complete with raspberry in the centre, for my boyfriend. It was going to be Valentine's day after all! I'm told that it was delicious, so I'm glad I made that choice. I bought a set of six mini breakfast jams as well, for a friend, and they were totally bargainous. I won't say exactly how bargainous, lest she discover how much I spent, though with any luck it'll be the gesture that counts! All in all this is a delightful place to purchase breads, jams, cakes and any other home made goodies. Just get in early to avoid disappointment!

There is quite a few bakeries in thorne and many of them are practically next door to each…read moreother, when I moved into thorne last year, more than one local informed me that rhodes was the better shop, this opinion was also backed up by the fact the shop is always busy,The only bad point is that there is usually a long que,so if you are in a mega hurry i would advise you to use one of the many others, otherwise I would highly recommend this shop, the staff are pleasant and the food is very fresh and and good quality

Terrible Bakers My…read morewife tends to go in most week ends for a assortment of things, but after this week end it wont be happening again. She bought whats called I think an Elephants Foot fresh cream cake, it certainly wasn't fresh and had me vomiting for most of the night, this certainly doesn't help when I already have a Hiatus Hernia, and if this bursts it could kill me. The cream was clearly off and it certainly smelled it was. I am not in the best of health and currently prescribed 40 tablets a day. How on earth this Bakers can sell stuff like this is beyond me and I would've honestly thought that they should have a QC Dept in shop to check products. What surprises me is that Environmental Health don't do spot checks on premises like this, ie being proactive instead of reactive, when something like this happens. I will leave people to make there own minds up, but just because the shop is packed, doesn't give them the right to cut down on health practises.
