One of the more larger establishments in the area with lots of room to stand, sit and dance. There is an outside area with some table and chairs. Its a place to karaoke, mingle, drink beer, meet after work, watch bands, listen to DJs and get happy. A younger crowd who know why they are there and getting the job done. Liked the beer selection, restrooms were decent, immediate service at the bar and casual. read more

Greatest bar that ever existed, fantastic service with a fabulous ambiance! Miss you!

Great venue to see a band. Low stage means you're right in the action! Outdoor patio if you need a break from the action. Full bar, plus water jug for us non-drinkers to help ourselves to water. Ladies bathroom is tight quarters, but at least there are two stalls. A fun place for live music in Nevada City! read more

For a small town, Nevada City has a lot of nightlife. Cooper's doesn't have anything exceptional to offer beyond just being located in the middle of it all. I'm not saying it's a bad bar, just one eclipsed by some of the more memorable options in the surrounding few blocks. We dropped in on a Saturday night, and you don't have to be a scientist to know that is the peak going out night in any city big or small. So we expected their best game. It was a good crowd and a $5 cover charge. The beer selection is long but unremarkable - nothing really local or that unheard of. The bartenders were friendly but knew little about the beers and were very slow to serve at points. The back patio was dark and filled with smokers (as most patios are), so really not my scene. The music was a band from Nevada who just weren't very good at all. I think it dampened the atmosphere and drove us across the street to... ...the Crazy Horse Saloon and Grill. Things are a little more warm and intimate here, and the crowd responded that night. The band and the liquor selection were better and the service was lighting quick too, so our decision to switch watering holes was a no-brainer. In conclusion: Come to Cooper's for a drink, go elsewhere for a party. read more

"Cooper's"! I am really impressed by one of the employee who almost kicked me out last night. Reason behind is simple. I forgot my ID that's what I thought when I couldn't find it, which led him to believe that I am under age. I may look younger but not on mind. I finally found my ID and showed it to him. He explained me that it's their policy to try to stop minors being in the club. I get it! Btw I had a nice time. It was my friend Dave's birthday party. I didn't do much party but also, had a great time. Thank you, Cooper's team! I hope that you maintain the same image impression on customers like you made last night! read more

To the guy below saying someone tried to steal his jacket. This guy and his wife left the bar after the "jacket incident" then came back trying to fight the local who was just playing around. There was no attempt to steal anything. This gentlemen below was drunk and his wife was belligerent flipping off staff and screaming and cussing. I guess when you are intoxicated it's hard to remember the night clearly but as the door guy who say it all go down and had to kick him out I will tell you right now they were out of line 100% read more

I am a Nevada City local. I'll be honest, this is my least-favorite bar in town. I only ever go here anymore if I am invited to have a drink with a friend who still foolishly thinks this is a great place to hang out in NC. To sum it all up in one line: it is more often than not extremely loud, overcrowded, and at times quite messy. This place seems to tout themselves as some sort of a "brew house". They do have quite a selection of beers, but that is about the only positive thing I can think of to say. There is more often than not some sort of entertainment going on here, either a DJ or live band. Maybe I'm just getting old, but the sound is always so ridiculously loud that you literally have to yell at whoever you're talking to in order to communicate. Bring earplugs if you care at all about your hearing. On popular nights this bar gets very crowded and you will have to pay a cover to get in. Cops tend to poke their heads in the door on a regular basis here, and they don't do that everywhere in NC, only certain places. If the night is anything but dead, expect to find spilled drinks on every flat surface you can find. It can also get noticeably smoky inside despite smoking being limited to outdoors-only. It quickly becomes stressful just to be in Coopers due to all the chaos going on. If you are young (less than 25), and don't mind a loud, dark, and messy place to drink, then you'll be right at home here. If, like me, you have been around long enough to appreciate a more peaceful, laid-back atmosphere, I'd humbly advise you go elsewhere for a drink. read more

Dive bar. Lots of micro brews. Too-loud live music. Intersting crowds. Lively bartenders. Sticky floors. read more

Great beers. Lots of micro brews at reasonable prices... BUT!!!!!!! The bartenders know NOTHING about the beers. Seems to me that if you are going to have a bar with many different brews, the staff should be up to date on what they are. I was there last week twice and neither time did the bar staff know anything about the beers on tap. Love the live music selection on the weekends too. Great patio, good for conversations when the music is too loud. read more

This is a nice place to go on Sunday nights. As far as the weekend, the band is always too loud to enjoy any kind of conversation. I like the bartenders, they come over if you've had your cash out in plain view for a while. They don't have actual Red Bull for Jager Bombs, it's some sort of knockoff, so keep that in mind. Brad is my fav bartender here! read more

I have been going to Cooper's for years and have always enjoyed the bar atmosphere and music. Twice in less than a year I gave the bartender a $100 bill and received back $80 less than I should have when I mentioned it I was treated as if I did something wrong, they then threw my money at me. If you go to coopers count your change. A few people have told me they have had the same experience with the same bartender. I do not want to mention names just beware of getting short changed out right thievery can destroy a business I hope it's addressed l enjoy coopers but haven't been back since. read more

KICK ASS!!!!! im not from here but i am a frequenter. the bf and i rolled out at the recommendation for live music. we saw this awesome band perform and we even got their info and watched them in SF the following week!!! it was like blues meets blue grass and rock.. they were great... cant remember the name right yet. the bar had good stiff cheap drinks, great patio area and in the morning they had a bloody mary do it yourself trough.. that was soo cool!!! the bartenders and bar backs were totally nice and patient.. and well trained!! actually my bf got too hammered!!!! i m going back in a couple o weeks for my birthday!! yay!!! read more

So unorganized!!! Went to get my ID for darts and they gave them to the owners friends by the time I got back claiming that "They were here first". This is not to mention that we came on a Saturday night and the live music was TERRIBLE!! My brother and I got a "Mexican coffee" and it was absolutely awful, with the lowest grade tequila for not a great price. The women's bathroom also had a gap about 2 inches on each side if you care about that sort of thing. I do NOT recommend coming here. read more

A real dive. They occasionally book decent music, but it is so crowded and loud that it is impossible to think. The sound people think louder is better, and it is like listening to a too-loud stereo in a small room (which it is). The only place the sound is mixed properly is outside, and if you can breathe with all of the tobacco & marijuana being smoked out there- good luck. BTW the beer is warm and the service even when they are not busy is indifferent and sullen. Bleah! read more

I hate to bag on a business and I've never used Yelp for a negative review before but I felt totally burned by the staff at coopers after one drunk regular tried to steal my jacket . when I approached the person and confronted him he said he was just being funny and gave my jacket back to me. The staff came to his defense and basically asked me to leave. When I asked them why they were defending the person who was stealing my jacket they said he was a regular and they wouldn't miss my money because I was a tourist. The bartender offered a poor attempt at an apology by saying the guy was drunk and probably thought it was his coat but bottom line is they should have at least extracted an apology from the drunk friend instead they blew me off because I'm a tourist..i guess at Coopers it's normal to rob tourists.. I come to Nevada city a few times a year and like to support live music but Coopers seems to be a dying bar so I say don't give them your money. let them die so that someone who knows how to run a business can take it over. Apologies to the bartender you seem like a nice guy read more

Nice bar with a nice stage but they seriously need to start booking more and better bands. I know it's a small town but I know with a little more effort they could get some awesome bands to play here. read more

Recently came for here for a reggae show. It's a small club. Musical acts and sound were OK, but the main complaint from everyone was the slow bar service. One guy (the 1 with the beanie cap) was bustin' his tail, but the other had a too laid back approach given the number of customers needing service. The club this night could have made literally thousands of more dollars simply by adding another bartender. Alternatively, adding a small set-up bar within the patio or elsewhere serving beer & wine only would do wonders. In the meantime, it's probably best to order two or three drinks (pp) at a time once you get their attention. Better have your money up on the table too, or you'll likely get ignored on a busy night like this. The quasi-backstage area also looked to be underutilized on this night. They have a couple of big screens and tv monitors, and on this night, they were showing an MMA event. read more

Beer was a reasonable price and bar service was good. There was karaoke the night we were there and it was fine. Music was not too loud. Liked the DJ. Smoke is a problem. There is an outside patio where smoking is allowed and the door is often left open so smoke gets inside. The bartender seemed unconcerned. read more

We attended a wedding in early June and Nevada City Winery provided the rehearsal dinner venue. The family provided the pizza and salad but the Winery provided the wine and it was delicious! There was a very cute deck for outside seating that was just perfect! The women behind the bar were nice, polite and very professional! OK so this place is a little bit of a dive bar, but I really liked being here. I found it very clean and located very conveniently in the center of town. The perfect place to hold a rehearsal dinner, just perfect! read more

Skanky dive that has it better moments. Been going for over 20 years. They are on a steady and successful decline to something lower than a skanky dive bar. Extra loud music with an over priced cover charge to further annoy any patron. read more

high five for hosting the open mic. You can even get a recording if you come back (in a reasonable amount of time). Word up...

I come to this place often enough and my only complaints I have about this place is that whenever there is a band playing or a dj playing its too god damned loud my most recent visit was on cinco de mayo and it was allright for the most part. One major issue I had is the dj playing was extremely loud I mean I know coopers has the loudest sound system in nevada city but you honestly dont need to prove that point ever single freaking time someone plays there the bartender could not even hear me yelling into her ear when I was trying to order a simple beer. I eventually got my order across to her and proceded to go out to the patio where I was greeted with the pungent odor or marijuana, eventualy I found a place to sit down away from the smell for the most part but the people I was attempting to have a conversations with could not hear me because the dj play who was smokeing marijuana on the back porch there had the sound system at absolute full blast everyone on the patio got annoyed so we closed the door that was open to block out some noise and at that point it was tollerable but then about a minute or two later the "high as a kite" dj opened the windows to the patio because apparently the town in its entirity had to hear his god awful reggae music. the staff there is allways kind and knows a little bit about drinks. I would suggest shutting down the bar for at least one day to train the staff on mixed drinks and cocktails because when it comes to that they are totaly clueless. there is no security what so ever there I have had to find a police officer walking down the street to tell him there is a fight going on out on the patio which nobody inside the bar staff or otherwise either did not know about the fight happening or simply did not care. I took my gf here for her 21st birthday only to have to tell a handfull of sleazy scumbags to leave her alone because they think they can hit on everyone when they smell of dirt and urine and look like they have not changed their clothes or showered in YEARS. I RARELY get asked to see my id when I enter the place and there is NEVER someone working the door unless there is a cover charge which happens just about every night after 9 pm and even then all the guy at the door cares about is getting the money and I personally have never had my id checked when there was a cover charge. Inside of the bar is so dark its impossible to tell what anything looks like or the condition of things and rightfully so because if there was adequate lighting we could all see how much of a dump this place actually is. Sadly this place is the ONLY decent establishment to get a decent drink in nevada city Its not great but its the best we got read more
