We usually call them an hour or two out, but have called within 5 minutes and had a car show up. One time in particular the driver never showed and it had turned out he was in a big crash on the way to pick us up. Thankfully he was ok, according to the dispatch. Rates are fair. A trip from Astoria to Prospect Park for a race cost me $30 and we usually drop $20 including tip from our apartment near 30th and Broadway in Astoria to LGA. Meanwhile, 20 minutes or more will pass and no one shows up. When you call them back, the operators are rude and obnoxious. They catch an attitude and either tell you the car is on its way and will be there in another 10-15 minutes or hang up on you. Very rarely, if at all, do they even send you the cab info anymore, so unless you call back you won't know whose picking you up. In addition, they tell you one price at the base and when you arrive the driver will tell you it's more. Honestly, you're better off using Uber or a different car service. It might be more money but less aggravation.
