I came down from Texas to Carbondale, and wanted ice cream. This place is very similar to YogurtLand, but this place has more ice cream flavor options and topping options, including various amounts or sprinkles and sauce toppings. Very clean area, clean bathroom! Self-serving and soft serve ice cream. They have 235 topping options, and 79¢ per ounce. Nice indoor and outdoor seating area. Nice and helpful service.

The amount of toppings is insane!!

This place is seriously AWESOME. My sister and I were talking to the clerk (and she was SUPER nice!!) and it came up how we have nothing quite this intense back in California - sure, we have frozen yogurt, but never in my life have I seen so many toppings!! Not even in the most touristy parts of SoCal. This place is insane. And the frozen yogurt itself was absolutely delicious, it was seriously so good. Carbondale seriously has a hidden gem here!!!

I would have to say that this place is just a little bit better than Chill. The decor of the place gives off a downhome feel, where families can mingle and enjoy each other's company (unlike Chill which is more of a teenager hang out). The service is great! The people are very nice and care about what you think. I think the two things that made Cool Spoons stand out for me was the fact that they have the tart flavored yogurt (or California tart) that is famous at other major yogurt chains, and the way they serve their toppings. Most of the toppings are in these tall tubes that can be emptied with a push of a lever. To me, that is much more sanitary than Chill which leaves everything pretty much out in the open. They also have happy face spoons for you to scoop other toppings that aren't found in the vertical tubes. I would say that this place has better service, better selection, and a better set-up than their competitor.

Cool Spoons is one of the best discoveries I've made in my time down here in Carbondale. The decor is really friendly and welcoming, and there's a good amount of seating. It's always clean and the staff is always helpful when you need them to. This is a pay-by-the-ounce do-it-yourself frozen yogurt place in the same vein as 16 Handles or Red Mango. I really like that this shop has little sample cups on display, so you can try the flavors before you commit to them. You grab a cup, go to the wall of frozen yogurt, gelato, and sorbet flavors, and fill and blend flavors to your heart's content. Most recently on my visit, I combined Key Lime and Cake Batter- it was definitely a good life choice. If you don't want a bowl, for an up charge you can get a waffle cone. And then there's toppings, and good lord do they have everything you could ever want. They have a bar of cold toppings that includes cheesecake pieces (my favorite), boba, fruits, and bacon. That's right. Bacon. Then you turn and the wall is FILLED with topping dispensers. These are filled with anything from graham cracker crumbs to Jelly Bellies to chocolate rocks to animal crackers. They also have some no sugar added options. And then you get to the sauces, hot or cold, in any flavor you could imagine. It's pay by the ounce, and I believe it's like .47$ an ounce or something like that, so the price depends on how much you load up your cup. For me it's usually between four or five dollars. It's a great place to hang out or bring kids, and it's fun to keep coming back to try new flavor combinations.

One counter with toppings, out of several! 178 toppings on the walls and counters.

This place is absolutely amazing! In California we have frozen yogurt chains but I've never seen this many toppings before! And the icecream was so creamy and delicious, there was an excellent choice of flavors. Definitely will be coming here again!

Excellent place in you are in the mood for frozen yogurt! We started going here when they first opened and have been by every time we are in town. There are about a dozen flavors of yogurt to choose from and probably near 100 toppings. I don't think I made the same thing twice yet. The store was hopping but not obnoxiously loud. It is a place you can take your kids for a treat and let them draw on the chalk board walls. it is almost set up like a living room, entertainment area vs a sterile ice cream store.

two bowls of ice cream and peanut butter

this was terrible my espresso coffee ice cream was sour and the chocolate was burning my friends tounge because of the sourness this was literally disgusting

18 flavors and numerous toppings. Great place for frozen yogurt, frozen custard and sorbet.

The roast beef savory crepe is also tasty -- though a little light on meat. In terms of the milk tea, it is passable. The tapioca pearls are cooked properly, but the tea itself is nothing special. That said, for the price, it's hard to go wrong. The interior could use some work. It's a bit run down, and the paper towel dispensers in the bathroom don't work great. Meanwhile, the service is solid. They were very patient and friendly with my kids.

Prices aren't that bad either even with it being one of the nicer restaurants around here. The crepes can be meaty or vegetarian among the many options. Basically this place is all staffed by SIU students with it being close to the campus. It's a scenario that seems like a recipe for disaster. That's not the case entirely. Can be a bit of a wait of course. The menu isn't that big, so it helps keep things running smoother. It's about $5 for a crepe. They have savory and sweet. Among the savory ones, we tried the mushroom. These were good and light enough that we didn't get filled up. For dessert you can get sweet ones. These include fruit fillings and whipped cream on top. Good place for tea and crepes. It's located on University Avenue at Mill Street. They frequently close for school events and vacations.

Neighborhood Co-Op is one of those places you can become a member at and get discounts and other things. Maybe the prices are kind of high, but there's a lot of harder to find items. There's a lot in here for plant based eating, as well as for those wanting to eat healthier, and local. Came to get a few things while on a visit and got more than expected. It's bigger than it looks. There's a lot of aisles, and has a good amount of baked goods, along with some pretty fresh produce. A lot of natural and organic items. They have a lot of the Applegate Farms products if you want organic meats and sausage. Of course there's plenty of plant based. They have non dairy items like nut milks and yogurts. In the bakery there was vegan zucchini bread. The prices in here are kind of high, but if you become a member you get coupons and specials. Has to be a stop if you're shopping for organics around here. It's located in the Murdale Shopping Center on West Main Street. There's a ton of things for vegans and vegetarians.

All coffee beans are organic. The regular (with caffeine) beans offered are Espresso, Ethiopian, Guatemalan, Columbian, and Peruvian and sell for $15.99/lb. The Decaf beans offered are French Roast and Breakfast Blend for $18.49/lb. If you enjoy baking they have a nice lineup of Bob's Red Mill products including several gluten free, non GMO, flours. King Arthur products are also available, although not as numerous. When I make my homemade chili or spaghetti sauce I use organic Muir Glen whole peeled tomatoes, sauce, and paste. I was happy to see all were available here. The only other product I'll comment on is their ice cream - Alden's. The best ice cream (IMHO) is Alden's Vanilla Bean. It's organic, has all natural ingredients (no high fructose corn syrup), and tastes delicious! It's made in Oregon and I've found that a lot of major chain stores do not carry it. If you get a chance to try it, it's a must! They have a "Hot Bar" where hot food can be purchased separately or as a whole meal. Daily specials are listed on the board behind the counter. While shopping one of the employees asked me if I was finding everything ok. I thanked him and thought it was nice of him to ask. Other employees were busy putting new products and produce on the shelves but took time to say hi and they seemed to be enjoying their work. The setting is in an older building that's part of the old Murdoch Shopping plaza. It's a comfortable feeling while shopping - no hustling and bustling here. Coops are a really great idea and this one comes through with shining colors! It's hard to eat healthy these days but shopping here makes it a lot easier. If you haven't already, please check them out...and eat healthy!

So good in fact that I needed to ask, "are these made fresh?" They are and the difference is noticeable. The salsa fresca is awesome. If you're brain washed into thinking that thin flaky chips and thick pasty salsa is good, you're in for a shock. After lunch, my wife and I went back for dinner because of the chips and salsa. Other bonuses: The margaritas were good. Strong. A** kickingly strong. The food was tasty, but I don't know if it was exceptional. The service was a little slow. I wish they brought more than 2 flour tortillas per meal. Candidly, the chips and salsa are so good that everything else came in second.

It hardly is that authentic, but it's not trying to be though. Honestly it's better than it looks. The prices are kind of expensive unfortunately. Basically this is classic Mexican American food. It's got a few locations, including this one. This has the feel of a big chain to it, though. Anyway, the drinks and food are okay if not expecting much. The high prices make it hard to be satisfied. It's about $12 for a margarita. The Blue Lagoon is made with Blue Curaçao and it got us lit for sure. Food is even more expensive. It's about $15 for the Taco Salad Veggie. This comes in a crispy tortilla bowl, and is filled with broccoli, cheese dip and sour cream which I left off, guacamole, lettuce, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and zucchini. Good stuff but certainly not worth the charge. The rest of the menu has typical Americanized stuff like fajitas and tacos. For sure it's not bad food. It's located on Giant City Road by University Mall. There's some things okay for vegetarians.
