Whenever we pass through BV, we find ourselves dropping into Cool River. The place is always hopping, and this recent stop was no exception. There is almost always a line snaking through the shop to place your order, but the staff is genuinely hustling hard to move people along. Once you get through the queue, you grab your drink and wait for them to call your name from the kitchen. It is a familiar routine for a reliable morning fuel up. Truth be told, this particular visit turned into a bit of a comedy of errors. I ordered a Cool River Burrito with chorizo, but the kitchen lost the ticket entirely. When they finally sorted that out, they failed to pack it to go as requested, so it ended up being a bit of a messy situation overall. To add to the frustration, the outdoor tables were pretty neglected. None of them had been wiped down or cleared, and unfortunately they were the only spots available to sit. Honestly, the food itself usually redeems the bumps in the road. When the burrito did show up, it was tasty and plenty big enough to satisfy a massive appetite, packed full of hearty ingredients and that chorizo punch. The interior space is definitely on the cramped side, but it manages to feel cute and features a nice modern vibe. Despite the logistical hiccups, the crew working the counter is incredibly kind and busting their humps to keep up with the rush. The food and service were great. When we arrived, there was a line out the door. The line moved quickly. We enjoyed the dog friendly patio. The mocha, biscuits and gravy, and Meaty Bowl were all excellent. Definitely worth stopping in if in the area. There is a large dirt parking lot on the east side of the building along with a lot of street parking. Visiting town and wanted an early start on our day. Stopped at Cool River for coffee and pastries. My girlfriend had a mocha and chocolate croissant. Croissant was average and Mocha was less than that. I had a drip caffe which was weaker than I like and was enticed by a cinnamon roll covered in icing. The icing was standard but the roll was nothing more than a standard roll with cinnamon added, quite disappointing. On the plus side, service was excellent. Even though it was early when we arrived on a Monday morning, it was quite busy and the person who took our order was knowledgeable, efficient and pleasant. We stopped in for breakfast when visiting this morning. It was very busy as this is clearly a popular place. One person was taking orders for a line of people that went out the door but it seemed like an efficient system. We ordered a small iced coffee, a vegan muffin, a vegan breakfast burrito and a full order of biscuits and gravy and it came to over 50 with tip. My iced coffee was good but I couldn't really taste the orange cardamom flavoring. It didn't take too long for our food to come out and the staff was really attentive to make sure everything was ok. I really loved the vegan burrito even though there was no salsa on the side. The vegan meat and tofu scramble it in were really good I would definitely recommend it. My husband said the biscuits and egg were good with his order but he wasn't a big fan of the gravy which he said had a slightly sweet taste. The vegan gluten free strawberry chocolate muffin was good but not great. We would definitely come back to this place next time we are in town. read more

My dog was a bit too friendly so she knocked over my hubbies soda but the waiter thought he had caused her to knock over my dirty Chai Latte and was so sweet to bring me another! Stopped in Buena Vista for lunch on a roadtrip. The downtown strip had restaurants and coffee shops with other shopping available. Cool River has a small outdoor patio and seating inside. You place your order, then the staff brings out your order. I ordered the Power Salad, which was delicious!! Spinach, arugula, blueberries, quinoa, chickpeas, avocado, cukes. So tasty!
