Looking for a place to play mini-golf with our great nephews, we decided to try Cool Crest since I had been there many years ago and had good experiences. We found the staff very friendly, prices reasonable, and three well-kept courses of varying difficulty. They also offer concessions but since we were going to dinner afterwards, we passed. It is conveniently located on the N Belt Hwy so easy to get into and out of. I think the one thing I enjoy most about Cool Crest are the number of mature trees interspersed throughout the property. They help maintain a relaxed environment and help with the typical subtropical heat that is common in this area. Pro Tip: They don't take Apple Pay That said, I highly recommend this Cool Crest mini golf course for anyone looking for some clean fun. read more

Thank you for saving Cool Crest! My brother and I played there with our family when we were kids in the 70s when we visited my grandparents every summer. This past weekend we were able to take our own kids there on a nostalgia tour of St Joe. It was just as sweet as we remembered it! Well cared for, fun elements to change up the course, plenty of shade for summer, and even "oldies" music playing. The staff were very helpful and efficient! Good old fashioned fun! read more

I've loved Cool Crest since I was a little girl and although I no longer live in St Joe, this place is still a MUST DO every time we come through town. 50 years later its more beautiful than ever. There's something magical about playing under the sweeping boughs of that old oak tree. There were a few rough years when there was different management and that was very sad to see. But the new owners have brought this gem back to life and all it was originally meant to be. We definitely will drive 3 hours out of our way for a chance to play minigolf here. I would give this place ZERO stars! This place is a joke! Once a place that was a "family" place now doesn't allow anyone under 6 years old to play! I grew up at this place, the original owners Jan and Guy were so friendly, their kids who inherited it are rude, unfriendly and have turned this place into something I will never visit again! It was raining, so we had to postpone our farm work. My best friend was over so we decided to try and find something to do. On a Sunday... In the rain. We headed on up to St. Joe, thinking surely we could find something. All the museums were closed, and we were feeling to hyper for just a movie, and you can find a mall anywhere. So what do we do? Unlike the review before me, who wrongly gave them 5 stars, this place has surprisingly changed. I laughed reading that review before me because it had nothing to do with the overall experience with the place recently, just memories from when it was good years ago. "Elite" reviewer? Let's see, I'm nowhere near close to be a parent. I'm not even in college. There was a family who was ahead of me but I could tell the mom didn't have a clue on how to correctly hit the ball and hold the club. The dude, I assume we are all talkin' about the same guy here, showed them the rules (I give them credit for that thanks) but he just rushed them and kind of took the fun out of it for the family of 3. The clubs on the other hand, they don't clean them. They're sticky, really dirty, and absolutely disgusting. EVERY mini golf place I have been to had always wiped the clubs down and cleaned them. Cool Crest used to be nice. Used to be family oriented. Used to be somewhere for all ages. Used to be a place I liked. Used to be a place we had fun at. Now: they have age restrictions, grumpy workers, no longer family oriented, no longer fun. None of us will be returning until something changes. Cool Crest, it's sad to see them end up this way. It's sad to see so many poor reviews here because Cool Crest has been around for generations and I grew up going here and going on dates in high school here! I knew Guy and Jan and I have very dear memories of them both. From what I understand, Jan still stops in to visit too. :) That being said, it seems like 100% of the poor reviews on here are from parents who were disappointed that their children under 6 could not golf here. I cannot speak to this as my kids are now all older than 6 and they can enjoy mini golf with us. If they were younger then 6, I'd probably be disappointed too. That is sad that they have this rule as I don't remember it before. They take cash only and I did actually have to leave, run to the ATM down the street and come back (lol) which was a pain so take note of this. The price is $9 per person regardless of age, and it cost us $45 to golf for one hour so it's spendy but nothing out of the ordinary for entertainment these days. The beautiful grounds, abundance of flowers, statuary and hokey extras are all part of what makes this Cool Crest special. I hope they find a way to make parents of kids younger than 6 happy so they can stick around for many more decades to come. read more

I grew up in St. Joe and have been to Cool Crest countless times since my childhood. Both my children have even had Birthday parties there when they were younger but after our experience tonight I won't go back again. I'm not quite sure why they feel the need to have several staff members patrolling the courses non stop now following customers around from hole to hole but it made it seem more like a prison yard than a family friendly mini golf course and charging $9.00 per person is ridiculous considering you can play in Independence, MO for $7.25 and that Cool Crest has several other things you can do as well like Go Karts, an arcade, etc. I am beyond disappointed. read more

No kids under 6 years old. Miniature gold is a family affair and there's just no way I'm going to leave my younger kid to follow along while the older one plays. 2 adults and 2 kids cost ~$36. Almost twice as expensive as the miniature golf place we went to afterward. read more

My group of 5 adult players paid around 40.00 to relax and play. Instantly we were instructed firmly to break our group up into three and then two. We actually did this and began playing and enjoying ourselves! The place is a little old as it's been there a long time, but that is part of the charm. We were sad to see the mini play castle was locked up. A little ways into the game we were stopped by a pushy rude employee who demanded that we separate the group completely. They wanted us to not wait for each other and send a group of three to play ahead of group two. We came there to relax, not follow a much of needless rules. We were not slowing anyone down or being rowdy in any way. I think they were trying to rush us through for no good reason. It really ruined the mood and after paying forty dollars to play with friends only to have some old crony come over and yell at us. To make matters worse the employee continued to watch over us and we heard her talk to other groups int his manner as well. We enjoyed playing the game and mini golf park, but we did not like being treated like children. One of my group members had intended to buy treats and snacks for everyone but after being treated like that she did not want to do so. If you need further reason to stay away from the place... just look at all the bad reviews EVERYWHERE on the internet. They've not even tried to fix these reviews. They just let them pile up because there is nothing else like this place in St. Joseph. They know they can treat people badly and get away with it. read more

Cool Crest used to be a great place to take your family when Jan and Guy were the owners. We took our grandkids last night and found out that childen under 5 were not welcome. We had told the kids all day about going to play golf, and our little one that is 4 cried when they refused to let him play. We were not letting him run around, my husband didn't play because he wanted to help our grandson 100% of his time. He was under constant supervision. The people where rude and we will never go back again. After posting on Facebook, I was surprised to learn that this the way they treat everyone. We will never go back again, and that's has been the general comment from over 25 of my facebook friends. If things don't change, Coolcrest will probably be a thing of the past and another St. Joseph business will be closing. Go to the Golf Club, they are family friendly! read more

Worst experience ever! Took my kids and their grandparents and they told us we had to split up. No more than four at a time. Ridiculous. Then, they told us my four year old daughter couldn't touch a putter. It's a serious game of golf. Really? We're hitting balls into an aligators mouth. Definitely NOT a family place. After an unfriendly attempt to buy a round of golf, I had to try to explain to my five year old why we were not welcome to play. Then I had to explain why there were kids on the course that were obviously under the age of four. I guess the family values taught here is to lie. I played cool crest every summer as a kid visiting my grandparents. Just tried taking my son and come to find out you have to be 6 OR OLDER to "touch a putter" This is absolutely ridiculous and my son was devastated. The place wasn't even busy! What kind of golf course does not let kids play?!?! We came to st joe on vacation and thought the kids would love some putt putt but they said the younger boys could not play! They could not help us, they can not touch a club or ball, really! Oh yes and cash only so stop by the atm if you bother going. Then she told us there was another course down the road 3 or 4 miles, well its more like 10 miles and they were closed! And let me tell you it is a very long 10 miles with two young boys that saw the other course and are very excited to play. Very disappointing! read more

I grew up going here. It used to be so fantastic. In the summers the parking lot was always packed. Now you drive by and theres not nearly that many cars there. We went a while back and the family friendly atmosphere that Mr. & Mrs. Saxton so effortlessly created is gone. The management follows you around checking up on you, the prices have increased a lot, and as many before me have said, children seem to be very unwelcome here. Regardless of the fact it is utterly ridiculous that no one under 6 can golf anymore, children seem to be portrayed as an immediate red flag, triggering the staff to watch your every move, even going as far as to critique their put and stance when they golf. They are less than friendly. It's sad because I doubt we will go back. We will go somewhere else. I hope they know the entire city is very disappointed in the direction their business has gone. read more

Cool Crest is THE BEST! I've been there twice on my visit to St. Joseph. It says it's "A friendly place for friendly people" and that is so true! The staff was super sweet and incredibly friendly! The gardens are gorgeous! And all the courses are kept in great condition and they haven't changed a thing in years!
