My favourite thing about this place is their righteous brownies. They come in two sizes: huge (4.50) and not-so-huge (2.50) and are filled with chopped walnuts. Brownies, for me, are best when made with walnuts and Cool Beans does not skimp! In addition to the flag-ship brownies, CB sells brioche of various size, cookies and pastries, wood-oven baked breads (all sourdough, I was told), Flammenkuchen/pizza, and a few different types of sandwiches. When I was there the other day (buying my brownie), I noticed the proprietor piling onto a veggie burger a generous dollop of guacamole. Nice. -side of greens came on the plate as well. Tea and scones are now also on the menu. C.B. have quite a compilation of lovely china. Tea tastes better out of a dainty cup detailed with roses, for sure.
Cool Beans, run by super chill folk from the Netherlands, if I'm not mistaken, has a groovy vibe and aims to please. Smells wafting from the wood-oven, located just before the entrance of the Markthalle, are a sure-fire draw. Business folk looking for lunch, tourists ambling by and those, like me, who are fans of Basel, would do well to pop into the Markthalle and sample the fare of Cool Beans.
I wasn't able to locate the CB website, however, they do have a (not-very-often-updated) Facebook page. Have a gander: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cool-Beans-Markthalle-B%C3%A4ckerei/162035154003176?sk=timeline
