You can easily order online - very easy process, except that I wanted to send two different…read moreproducts to one person. So I made two separate orders. I was impressed that I received a call right away to confirm that was not a mistake (thank you because you never know these days if someone has stolen your credit card or that you hit the back button and ordered twice by accident). That was much appreciated! And it was nice to know someone is at the store to assist if you need human interaction. And as one of the items was sold out, she recommended a suitable replacement and without hassle, the item was substituted. Delivery was prompt and products were received in good condition. So... I will definitely order here from now on.

Well, last weekend I figured I'd do some adventure-shopping which led me to this little hideaway. Once you open the door, you'll be surprised by what you find. Unlike the pretty unremarkable exterior, the inside is kind of adorable with a section dedicated to festive teddy bears greeting you at the door. It's all very 'country kitchen' but that's a relief when you don't know if you're walking into a flower boutique or a total dive. Staff were friendly, helpful, and quite lovely as I checked out some of their premade bouquets and pretended for a minute I could come up with something unique from the mix-and-match selection. Spoiler: I couldn't. So I walked out with a nice glass globe holding some stones, watery greens, and a Gerbera daisy for $20. Modern, simple, and a nice way to celebrate a dose of Spring in the middle of February!

I was rudely awoken on Sunday by the sounds of dueling chainsaws at 7:30 AM. By 11 AM, our…read morequasi-inebriated neighbours, whose backyard abuts ours, had chopped down the lovely natural property dividers. In effect, they had cut down about 8 full bushes and mature trees to use as firewood. Oh, it was on. Fuming that we now had a very clear view of their litter-strewn yard, we headed out to Lakeland to see if we could recover what once was a beautifully treed-in hammock oasis. Both of the employees working there that day were aghast at our situation, and more than happy to help us fight back. They made so many helpful suggestions on what types of shrubs to get and what to avoid for our area. They informed us on how to plant and maintain our new tree line. We left with several new bushes, and even some berry plants so that I can enjoy some fresh fruit from my patio next season. They also gave us wonderful tips on where to find some naturally grown sapplings to grow our own Maples. Their wonderful service helped us turn our day around. Thanks to them, we've foiled our neighbour's plan to make more room for, what we can only assume, their growing 1989 Mustang car part collection. We'll have our lush backyard back in no time thanks in no small part to Lakeland.

As a child I LOVED going to Lakeland Plant World, especially at Christmas time because of their whimsical winter wonderland. More recently, I've enjoyed visiting in order to buy plants - some of which have been investments of both time and money - $100 tropical trees anyone? Lakeland has everything, from shrubs, evergreens and perennials to shovels, soil and garden gnomes. In the summer, perusing the outdoor assortment is lovely, with lots of rose bushes in bloom and bees-a-buzzin' - plus, their employees are oh so knowledgeable and helpful. A great botanical experience!

Designing wedding bouquets from a distance, with florists you've never met....challenging right? In…read moreaddition, the wedding flowers were a gift, so I was designing them sight on unseen from my friends getting married. Tracy at Dean's Flowers spoke to me on the phone and by email until we nailed down beautiful beautiful flowers. They lasted over a day - we had to pick them up the day before the morning wedding because we transported them to Grand Pre on the North coast. Bouquets looked amazing two days later when we boarded the plane for NY. Amazing. In the end, they came in $80 under my budget max....so impressive. If you live in Halifax, are getting married in Nova Scotia, I highly recommend Tracy and the team at Dean's.

Every time I have called, the staff have been so friendly and accommodating. I have made requests such as 'unconventional arrangement, in a vase', 'something with lots of color and, oh, can you also add some chocolate?'... Last week was my M.I.L's BDay. I called mid afternoon for 'a planter arrangement' to be delivered that day - the lady I spoke to on the phone explained how many varieties they could fit in for what price. I truly appreciate great service and I feel I get it every time from Dean's! M.I.L called that evening to express just how beautiful the planter was. Thank you Dean's. You'll be hearing from me again soon (since Mother's Day is this Sunday!)
