This is a very dangerous place. Any place that makes baked treats that are so good and frankly addictive is just asking to be regulated by someone! I recieved a box of their macaroons, many covered in a thick rich velvety delicious chocolate, white and black, and fell in love with their baking talent. Oh My God. Someone got me some rum balls & triple sec balls from here for my birthday a few years ago. I thought they were very quality and well made. However, chocolate is not entirely my thing. However, I trekked over there today for someone else's birthday gift and tried the LEMON SANDWICH COOKIE. I love lemons. I love sandwiches. I love cookies. This was, hands down, the best lemon cookie I have ever tasted. And I've tried a lot of lemon cookies. The middle melted in my mouth & the outside was crisp but not too thin. I read a review long ago in the Boston Globe that the woman running Lakota was dissatisfied with store cookies so she started tinkering with recipes until she arrived at a cookie she liked. According to the story, she ended up doubling the butter and halving the sugar, which led to a tender crumb and a rich flavorful cookie. This woman, she knows things. She understands how things work. That was over 10 years ago that I found my spiritual cookie sister. I never miss an opportunity to stop by Lakota when I'm in the area. I used to think florentines were weird, dry, gross cookie versions of fruitcake, but in her hands they are chewy, caramelly plates of goodness dipped in a flawless chocolate. I get AT MINIMUM 6 florentines when I go to Lakota, because usually only 3 make it home. Every other cookie is sweet perfection too, from the macaroons (an almond pouf cakey-cookie covered in an almond flavored chocolate ganache and half-dipped in chocolate) to the hazelnut shortbread to the traditional chocolate chip or chocolate ginger cookies- EVERY COOKIE HERE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND, DO YOU UNDERSTAND? I am a bakery fanatic and it's a serious problem. I live in Arlington but am rarely in the Heights area for leisure so I was excited when I finally had the opportunity to go to this little place after eyeing it for months. I enter the store, which is very small. I noticed they only had cookies which felt limiting but hey, I love me some cookies! There were several women in the back working and chatting and when someone realized I was there looking, she came into the front of the store where I was. Her hands were on her hips, her expression more than unwelcoming, and she did not say a single word to me. I said, "Hi, I've never been here before so it may take me just a minute to decide." No response. No expression. I felt so awkward I quickly ordered one cookie. I should've just left because I rely on common courtesy to be a returning patron. What I got was an "S" cookie (basically shortbread) half dipped in chocolate. The only words the woman said they whole time was the total cost of the single cookie. The chocolate was elastic-y...kind of weird to me. Anyway, the cookie was underwhelming and the service was rude so I will not be returning. read more

Received these as a gift! I got to try the seasonal flower shortbreads, chocolate macaroons, and florentines. All of them were delicious and the right amount of sweetness. The shortbread was buttery with a crunch. The chocolate macaroon had a thick chocolate ganache and a strong almond flavor. The Florentine was crisp and had a nutty, caramel taste. It's hard to argue these cookies. They are outstanding. But $1.25 each and cash only?!? They are out of their mind for charging $1.25 for a cookie that is tiny - it's not like you're getting a huge portion to justify the price. But the taste....Woooo. And I love cookies - so I really can't say no. Try the standard chocolate chunk or the raspberry linzer. The caramel bars are good (but very small) and the butter/shortbread-type cookies are okay but a bit bland. Mixed thoughts on this one. AMAZING! The girl who helped was great, and made the best recommendations. If you're a peanut butter lover, you HAVE to try the peanut butter bomb (not the actual name)... basically a peanut butter smeared with peanut butter/confectioner's sugar mix, sprinkled with peanuts, smothered in chocolate, and sprinkled with peanuts again. I can't believe I never noticed this place. My son won a gift certificate to Lakota and we hadn't used it because, well...we generally are not in need of any baked goods in Biba's house. I walked in and there were cases of cookies that looked so amazing I wanted to try every one of them. Sandwich cookies, lindzers, shortbreads, snicker doodles and too many others to name. I walked out with a box full of 20 cookies (only 3 of which were the same) and there were many other flavors that I will have to go back to try. There is no confusion, the cookies are all $1.25 and I loved that aspect of it. It would have been nice if they had a special price for a dozen or offered a bakers dozen but since every one I have tasted so far has been awesome I can not complain. The cookies are definitely 5 star cookies taste wise and selection wise. I went in twice today and both times there were 3 or so customers in there which was all the shop could really hold if you want to really browse at the selection. The staff would run out of the back as soon as another person came through the door so people wouldn't wait long to be serviced but everyone needed time to decide. My only reason for only 4 starts and not 5 is in the name, it should be Lakota Cookie Bakery or Lakota Cookies because both times that I was in there within an hour and a half someone came in looking for something other than cookies and they were turned away. read more

I'm back in ATown for Turkey Day, and want to pick up something to satisfy my sweet tooth - since it turns out I don't really care for pumpkin pie. I'm told that Lakota is *the* place for cookies, they're sold all over the place, blah blah blah....I don't really recall ever hearing the name, but I'm game for cookie exploration.... The woman at the counter seemed disinterested in selling us cookies. I was discouraged that they don't even have a chocolate chip cookie. All of the cookies look the same. Well, most of them, obviously macaroons etc are actually different. So I get home and dive into my cookie - chocolate cookie with peanut butter frosting sounded divine, especially when chocolate dipped! Nope. It TASTES like all those other cookies LOOKED. Despite it being "chocolate," very little chocolate flavor present. Or peanut flavor for that matter. Bland bland bland. Now I remember having these cookies before. And not enjoying them. I now find myself throwing them out to save on the unsatisfying calories. Hate myself for wasting food and money, but they're just not worth it. BLAND. You've been warned. read more

The 10 or so varieties of cookie sandwiches they have are my favorites but you really can't go wrong here. What a wonderful selection of delicious cookies Lakota has!! I was turned on to this place by my sister-in-law who would pick up some seasonal cookies for holidays. It's a small operation. I would guess you might have to call ahead to order cookie plates for the holidays. They are also cash-only! At least they were the last time I was there. The good news is that if you can't make it out to Arlington Heights, you can find Lakota's cookies in a bunch of local businesses like Darwin's and Pemberton Farms. I love baked goods, and found this bakery through Yelp when I was in the area. I was a little nervous about the one-star reviews, but the woman serving us was kind enough and the cookies are good. They are rather expensive - $1.35 each - and don't take credit. I was also disappointed that there is no discount for buying more. However, the cookies were yummy. The chocolate on any cookie that was dipped in or topped with chocolate was good quality. I think the favorite cookies were the M&M and the peanut butter cookies. The brownie was pretty good too. I wasn't a huge fan of the sandwich cookies, which were overly sugary for me. Bottom line: it's definitely worth a shot if you are in the area and like cookies. read more

What an adorable little bakery! I've actually never been to a cookie bakery before and I was overwhelmed with all of the different choices of cookies to sample! I ended up trying a chocolate mint sandwich, a raspberry linzer and a ginger. Yum yum and yum! The chocolate mint sandwich cookie was light and flaky with delicious creamy mint filling, the raspberry linzer was rich, buttery and topped with an amazing raspberry jelly but the ginger... OMG... this was my favorite. It was the plainest looking cookie I got but the most flavorful. It was soft, chewy and delicious. I've been dreaming about getting another one for days! The cookies are all $1.25 each and they do offer cakes as well, but you have to pre-order them. They only accept cash or checks, but conveniently there is a Bank of America ATM right across the street. read more

My husband was in there Monday and purchased three orders; one for children, one for adults and one for a gluten free consumer. The reviews are in! All three categories were rated by the individual groups as a 10! The children's cookies, in addition to being delicious as described by an adult who stole one, were also beautifully and timely decorated! Hands down the GF cookies were nothing short of perfect. We stopped here for the first time today and bought a dozen assorted cookies. A friend from work had suggested this place. I was surprised by the large variety of cookies (and also surprised to not find any cakes or tarts). I should have asked if they also made those, but the small room was crowded and I did not get a chance to ask questions. Among the cookies we brought home were: lemon sandwich cookies (heaven!), Triple Sec Haystacs (like something from Neiman Marcus - wonderful!), St. Pat's Day shortbread cookies (well made), and chocolate caramel squares, which were substantial and satisfying. I am a long time, frequent customer. The cookies are excellent, large variety, and the best in the Boston area (since Rosie's bakery closed). The staff are friendly and helpful, and patient as customers consider and choose from the large array of different kinds of cookies. My favorites are old-school peanut butter, chocolate ginger, mocha sandwich, lemon macaroon, tuxedo, and Lenore's butter cookies. The only tiny missing choice, to me, is a more substantial chocolate chip cookie with a taste of caramelized sugar to it (like what Rosie's used to sell). Cookie Time has a chocolate chip, but it is thin and to my mind, not strongly flavorful. Otherwise, it is heaven for cookie addicts. (Parking is miserable, but that is the failure of the town of Arlington). When I bring Cookie Time cookies to gatherings, they are always a big hit. read more

Extremely disappointed with the staff and their customer service. In asking if they do deliveries to surprise a dear friend going through chemo, who raves about these cookies, the person I was speaking said they would seek advice in the shop on how they could deliver despite not having done so in the past. I was not put on hold and listened to their conversation in which they said, "This person is calling about getting cookies to someone going through chemo? I don't know - this not NOT something I want to deal with," in a very agitated tone. The conversation left me embarrassed and shocked at their response to my request. I LOVE this bakery! I only found out about it last fall, but since then, this has been my go-to for when I'm craving something sweet. My favorites are the classic shortbread that's half-dipped in dark chocolate-- the buttery cookie with that slightly bitter chocolate is a heavenly combination!! I love this place and their cookies. They are now my 'go-to' when I go to a party - I bring an assortment, and everyone has a blast trying various cookies. I also buy a couple for myself on those visits, or make special trips up there on a Saturday afternoon to treat myself. Personal favorites are the raspberry linzer cookies and the Lenore's butter cookie, which has pretty much the perfect texture of a butter cookie. But any and all of them are good/great. When the assortment gets picked over, the sandwich cookies and the florentines get the most raves. As others have mentioned, the staff are incredibly patient as you decide. They are also really good at keeping track of how many you have left in whatever your order is (an underappreciated skill - until you really can't remember if you need to pick out two more or three more. Don't worry, they know. They always know.) Even better? They aren't cash only anymore! Probably the only people sad about that are Bank of America, whose nearby ATM has likely had a huge, unexplained drop in ATM fees in the past few months. read more

I discovered Lakota Bakery in my quest to find the best almond macaroon in the area, and they were tops. Their Big Mac is a large almond cookie, half dipped in chocolate and topped with almond slivers. For me, this is the perfect cookie...when it's done right. I've been to Lakota 3 times and one of those time the Big Mac had a huge chunk out of the bottom which made the cookie go stale. This was a big disappointment after having had a perfect cookie on my first visit. I complained and they said that they changed their procedures so that doesn't happen any more. That incident is the only reason they don't get 5 stars. Their cookies are the best, just don't go here if you have a peanut allergy. read more

Seriously the best cookies I have ever had. I am not a cookie person, but I love these--consistently and beautifully baked, full of flavor, never dry. I have liked every cookie I have tried there, but I am a particular fan of the florentines and any of the various macaroons. Also the raspberry linzer torte (almond shortbread sandwich cookies) and the lemon meringue cookies. I used to live in Central Square in Cambridge, near S&S. I was sad to leave the vicinity of that restaurant, in particular because I always loved their cookies.
