The latter is a high-ceilinged room with climbing frames along one wall and was the gym in the school that this building once was. I know, it doesn't sound very attractive. But read on. Every Wednesday evening, Studio 100 becomes Tangoland. This is one of only two places in Amsterdam where you can come for a drop-in lesson. No commitment, no planning, just one and a half hours of of tango instruction. As I mentioned in another review, I wil try and avoid rating subjective qualities such as the quality of teaching, but one thing that helps make the lessons here so worthwhile is the small size of the class. Instead of having 13 couple competing for the attention of the teachers, here five couples will do just that on a busy evening. On a quite evening you will get evenb more attention. Last week, no one else turned up so my partner and I had a private lesson. That is nice! Some points worth noting: there is only one lesson/workshop per week, so levels are mixed. The teachers do adjust to each pair's ability and the more experienced dancers will be given more challenging exercises to work on. The lesson is not suited to beginners. If you have a good basis of tango, then you can come here. After the lesson/workshop, there is free dancing ("milonga" or "salon" in the vernacular). Because of the low attendance figures, this will probably feel more intimidating than other salons, where you can hide in the background until you're ready to take the floor. The way how everyone is huddled around one table that makes it seem like the rest of the world is locked out. But nothing could be further from the truth - the regulars here are open to newcomers and welcome them with open arms. Or a close embrace ;-) Did I mention that this might be the best dance floor in Amsterdam? And that it is free to come and dance after the lesson? (The lesson ends around 22:00.) If you have an allergy to 14-week long courses or just want some extra instruction, you might want to pop along here some Wednesday.

An okay location. Nothing special but nothing really bad either…read more First of all, it is very easy to get to being that it is right next to Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. The people at this location are nice enough. Ask downstairs for Global Knowledge and the girl will buzz you in, take the elevator to the 5th floor. One thing that I don't like about here is the lunch that they provide if you are taking a class. While it is nice to have "free" (the courses are not cheap) lunch the quility is pretty bad. Compare this to the Global Knowledge location in Zoetermeer where you get vouchers for La Place...that is much nicer.

I found out about this School via a Dutch expat web site. The School had an event listed offering a…read morefree trial Dutch language class and one of the lucky attendees would win a free 8 week class as well. The school was located just under 15 minutes walking distance from my apartment, so decided to register and come check it out. Once you are at the building, go thru the lobby area to a common room towards the back, sign in and grab some coffee or tea as well as nibble on the cookies they've set out and basically mingle with the other folks who have come along for the free trial class as well. Btw, the location of the introductory class is actually a local college and they are pretty prompt because once 6:45pm rolled around, we got divided into groups of 12 and went off with individual teachers to a classroom located on the 3rd floor of the school building. Our teacher was the lovely and enthusiastic Veerle, and I really enjoyed her teaching style as well as the lesson and the multiple opportunities to practice my Dutch language skills with the other folks in my free trial class. Veerle had an easy-breezy style that made it fun and inspired me enough that the next morning I downloaded Duolingo, an app I had been meaning to a download for a while but hadn't done so yet. After about an hour and 15 minutes of our lesson, we made our way down back to the lobby area and the winner of the free class was announced (wasn't me!! :-) and it was all really very well planned and informative. The location of their actual classes is also just down the street, but they use the school building for these events as it's got more space. I need to look at their brochure and website to see if the timing of the language classes will work for me, (and if I do enroll, will come back and update my Yelp review) however can absolutely recommend coming for the free trial class they offer. I enrolled for a week of intense, private lessons (I was unable to sign up for any group classes as…read morethere were none being offered the week I wanted to start). My instructor, Christiaan, was highly qualified; he had a Master's degree. He used a variety of techniques to learn Dutch--we discussed topics, we had to present one side of a debate, and we had to draw/describe our house floor plan, among other methods. It was stimulating and the instructor was very enthusiastic. They also provide field trip opportunities and social gatherings to practice your Dutch. The program/experience was great and really helped me achieve my goal.

The level of the lessons is quite challenging but at the same time with a lot of fun. After few months I was able to dance with intermediate and advanced (from other schools) with no single problem at all. Last but not least, Rodolfo is a great teacher, you will notice that from the beginning (I did!!!). His level of salsa expertise is above the level of other teachers I have seen in The Netherlands.

Along with my husband and another couple, went to see a comedy performance by easylaughs last night…read morein the CREA Cafe in Amsterdam. We missed the 8 pm performance completely because of general lateness, but arrived just in time to purchase a few beers in the cafe and grab seats for the main show at 9 pm. The format of this improv performance involved five "art directors" who each introduced a movie concept for the audience to vote on and alter with random suggestions about location and objects. The actors performed scenes from each movie concept, and the audience continually whittled down the five concepts by voting for their favorites, until there was just one final movie left that won the show. The price was right (€10 for both the 8 and 9 pm shows), the actors were talented and genuine, the crowd was relaxed, and the cafe next door served as a great place to grab a drink between scenes and after the show. I would highly recommend this event to others and will definitely try to see their shows again. Overall, this is a very good alternative to Boom Chicago. ;) And in a very different part of town, which is nice. Bravo easylaughts! PS - they can't take a PIN card, so bring cash!!

Crea is a part of the University of Amsterdam where you can follow all kinds of creative courses…read moreand also take part in arts activities unrelated to your course of study. They have the Crea Orchestra, made up of students studying subjects other than music but who want to play in an ensemble. You can also rent the studios for a not too terribly expensive fee to rehearse with your ensemble/band. Technically at least one person in the group is supposed to be a student but there are ways around that rule if you're determined I've come to Crea several times for rehearsals, and also once for an improv comedy show. There are regularly shows and concerts in both the theater and the Crea cafe.

Crea is a really nice place to follow all kind of creative courses in your free time. Courses start…read moretwo times a year and the sure have a lot; all kind of theatre, singing, writing, Photoshop, painting. Their will be many things you'll like. Which I also love are their summer classes. You follow a intensive 1-week course and even eat there and go to theme nights. And the end of the week all week courses present their work to each other (writing course students read their stories, there are performances from the singers and actors, and of course expo's from the art courses.) It's a lot of fun with awesome people. Prices are also great!
