I love the food at Cook Out. They have a great variety of menu options for my whole family, including a picky toddler. This particular location was clean and staff was friendly. Our food was good, as we are used to, however my hush puppies were very much over cooked. My main complaint about this location though, has nothing to do with that. The reason that this location only gets 3 stars from me is simply because they lack a changing table. As a mother of a young one on a road trip, this was a pretty large inconvenience to us. read more

Pulled up 10 min before they closed and they just sat there and didn't take my order for the whole 10 min , I've worked in fast food if you close 10 min before or 1 min before closing time managers get fired , but here they seem to be able to do whatever they want . We've gone to this cookout several times and I hate to say it's just gotten worse and worse. The employee at the window was rude and obviously hated his job. We ordered a burger tray with fries and the quesadilla tray with hushpuppies and a couple sodas. The burger was equivalent to McDonald's. The fries were soggy and barely cooked, and the sodas were flat and gross. I don't recommend this place at all. They claim to be under "new management". But I haven't noticed a difference. Went thru the drive thru and ordered hotdogs w cheese fries. Informed the attendant the toppings I wanted on each hotdog. I left and the order was not correct , I returned and the door was locked so I knocked on the door nothing .. so I ended up having to go thru drive line and wait while my food gets cold due to their mistake. So I usually don't give fast food spots a 4 but...I'm making an exception...folks the burger and shake I had were on point. When I say on point I mean the cheese was all melted all over my burger, the chargrilled patty was perfectly cooked and the bacon had just the right amount of crunch. I ate inside, it was super clean and the girl behind the counter was knowledgeable and eager to help. I ordered a chocolate peanut butter milk shake and it was a 8 out of 10...I mean real good. I ordered my lunch through the drive-through. To wait in the drive-through line over 20 minutes. To finally get up to the window and the girl acted like she didn't have time to deal with me, I told her I needed a lot of mustard. She gave me one packet worth, and then to get back to work, and find out it was not what I ordered! And by the looks of the rest of the reviews, this restaurant is just going downhill! read more

I'd say 2.5...I love that they have Cheerwine; I can't get that at home. My burger had a good flavor and my fries were crispy. There were three 'chicken nuggets' as a side. My dad likes the concept of a tray and it was handy for my mom and I to split something. He is also a fan of the creamery shakes!! We wanted a quick bite to eat on the road. This was not particularly fast for fast food. Four orders ahead of us (one girl came in from the drive thru) were mixed up. So, several people had brought back up part of their order to be fixed. There was only one girl at the register; whoever was in the back I heard say the wind was making it hard to hear the drive thru orders. The drive thru line was consistent without a break the whole time we were there so people obviously like the food. We saw two mini busses pull up as we were finishing...it's a tight seating area & two guests were in wheelchairs. Others were trying to move the tables and chairs around to allow some easier access. Trying to 'beat the line' and get out of the way, I went to the one person women's room...one roll of TP was out and the other was torn up weirdly but it didn't seem like the right time to try to tell the one girl at the register that it was like trying pull paper streamers thru a grater to get toilet paper. :/ The lower electric paper towel roll was not working so the little girl ahead of me hadn't been able to get paper towel because she was too short to reach the other (higher up) dispensers electronic sensor. She sweetly warned me that there was no paper towel. While there were some management problems today, I wouldn't mind to stop again...it isn't straight off 75 but it is only a short drive from the exit. I hope this location can get things straightened out so they can get some more positive reviews... read more

BLT was the perfect blend of bacon lettice and tomatoe. The BBQ was a bit salty for my taste. The onion rings were wry good. No way can you beat the price. I will patronize this little place the next time I am in town read more

I don't know why they even called a milkshake this is basically just a Styrofoam cup of ice cream that's been mixed up. it's hot outside I'm literally shaking the cup upside down and not a drop is coming out how do you label this a milkshake, where is the milk this is literally just ice cream in a cup. and every time I order fried chicken sandwich I get home and realize they gave me a grilled one. might as well drive to Knoxville if you want cook out this one's awful. When I was in college I LOVED getting to run to cookout at any point of the day (or night) and getting a cookout tray with a milkshake! I was so excited when I learned we were getting one in Athens! I've visited many times since opening and I have never been disappointed. You can't beat the deal of the cook out tray and my favorite milkshake is one I made up that isn't on the menu, however they always make it for me - Mocha Oreo!! read more

Waited forever in drive through, our burgers were not topped as we ordered them, the meat was burnt up. I understand having so9me yummy char on a burger but these were black, crunchy and tasted like an old ashtray. Very dissatisfied ! Girl taking my order was push push I asked her 1st did they have tomatoes and she said yes I said ok I see that it's extra. I do want tomato. And still talk fast so fast it was actually rude. Then after I told her what all I wanted she said ok everything except mayo. I said yes I guess but I want tomato and no cheese ! Got to the window fake eyelashes and all she handed me my bag . I looked in it no napkins . I finally got her attention and it was like really you want a napkin handed me a napkins and shut the window . I was like ugh I wasn't through I want ketchup with my fries after being ignored I said screw it and drive off! Got down the road omg the hamburger was broken into. And mustard was piled high and guess what that's right no tomato ! Had I. Or gotten down the road and rain started I said just forget it ! Burger would have been good had they taken just a few extra seconds to make it presentable and eyelashes had been not quite as rude and not act like it put her out to give me a napkin! I REALLY want to like this place. I truly enjoy their burgers, for the most part anyhow. But the last two times we have been extremely disappointed. Our last being the worst. It was a slow day for them, so we thought it would be a perfect. WRONG. We stood at the register for seven minutes before someone decided to take our order. A young girl in glasses. Not even an apology or asked how we were. Just "What are you wanting." Wait time after ordering was the usual, which I was happy about. We sit down in the back room and i remember we didn't get ketchup. My husband goes to ask for some. I wait. And wait. Finally I get up (three minutes later) to see what's going on. He is STILL waiting at the counter for someone to acknowledge him. We can hear the Cashier and a male in the back laughing and carrying on a conversation. Sadly, by the time we got ketchup our food was lukewarm and mediocre. My fault for waiting for the ketchup to dip in. I wish their customer service was better, maybe we would go back. read more

This place reminds me of the dairy barn when I was a little kid. It had great food and amazing milkshakes but the best thing about this place is it open all year round. If you're ever in the city of Athens stop on in and grab you one of their milkshakes and one of their amazing burgers. read more

Customer Feb 8, 2018. Love the taste of the burgers, better than I can make on my back yard bar b-q. The do need bell in front so they know in back someone is at counter. Food hot and tasty with lots of choices for entree, sides and drinks. Tried cheerwine for first time and its like cherry coke or cherry pepsi but little different, but good. Never heard of it before but its been around a long time according to google. Price for most orders is $5 plus tax, (10 cents extra for tomato). I was stuffed when I left and drink was big enough to take home. Best meal for price in town. Ketchup and mustard available for asking, and should be with napkins, forks, salt and pepper. A pan containing packets of ketchup was at the counter but not the mustard. (should provide at least one in box with corn dog). I would recommend Ketchup, salt, pepper, and Mustard at the table in squirt bottles for the inside customers. All my suggestions are just to make a great place better, and its my go to place for a burger. Puts Mickey D and Hardees to shame on taste and price.
