Now we can reuse that wood in another project. He arrived on time, texted us photos throughout the process, and left a clean site, with the reclaimed wood in a neat pile. Everyone else who bid on the project wanted to burn the wood or haul it to the dump. Deconstruction Works has an arrangement where you can save wood from old structures and donate it to a nonprofit for a tax credit (which is a great idea, very win-win). We liked this model as we weren't sure how much of the wood we would re-use, and it was good to know that little would go to waste. His price was a little higher than the competition, but we more than made up for this in the value of the lumber salvaged, and the service was excellent.

The idea that the materials are being reused, the savings over straight demolition and the potential tax savings are really the icing on the cake to what was a great experience overall. Deconstruction Works also did some side work not originally contracted such as cleaning up the place. The work was done at a very fair rate and the project was finished ahead of schedule and on budget. This may sound weird but I will actually miss the Deconstruction Works crew.
