I asked how long my Oral Surgery would take and they said, "Oh About 30-40 mins". So I thought to myself, it is now 2pm, and I am still waiting in the waiting room for a 30 min procedure. The math wasn't adding up, and the waiting room was FULL of people. I rescheduled for a week later, for the morning, and I was only waiting for about 15mins this time before surgery began. All in all, Dr.Selznick seemed friendly and quick. The procedure room was slightly off-putting, because there air conditioner had been out there was a fan/swamp cooler against the wall making noise. My surgery did only take 30 minutes and I was out of there. The annesthesia wasn't BAD to where I couldn't walk or really function, I was just slightly loopy for a couple hours. It is now day 3 since the surgery and I am actually just in slight discomfort, not really pain! I have only read 1 Yelp review about things turning out very bad for her since her surgery with Selznick, but I am doing fine for the most part!

Also I live in California, so there's that. Story time: I hurt my neck pretty bad in a trampoline-backflip accident in Idaho. My home hospital is Stanford in Palo Alto, CA so I decided to leave earlier than planned to make the drive home. 100 miles later I was too tired to drive and realized that I had very limited movement from my neck to my shoulder blades. I couldn't sleep and couldn't drive so I looked up the closest hospital (This one. That's this hospital). A few words on my past ER experience: I've had some bad experiences with hospitals. Being a post double-lung transplant recipient I have a weak immune system due to the anti-rejection meds that I take. So weak that a common cold can put me in the hospital for weeks. I once went to Hawaii with two others like me and my friend got hurt, went to the ER, they didn't take her pre-existing condition seriously and put her in a bed separated from other people by only curtains. She got sick, never recovered, and after a year of going downhill she died. Another time I had to go to an ER in the Oakland area. Horrible experience. Long wait time, jaded staff, and scary patients. It even smelled like sickness. Anyway... As I walked into the NNRH ER on that Saturday night I was praying it wouldn't be too busy. Also it's a small hospital which typically means limited knowledge, resources, and technology. Not here. No one else was in the ER waiting. Just a security guard with a friendly smile and an admitting nurse who took my listened to my story and left to tell the doctor. I took a seat in the clean waiting room. After a minute they took me back to a private room which is absolutely necessary to prevent cross-contamination. I think perhaps all of the beds are in private rooms. Most new hospitals are being built with all private rooms as they have finally figured out how important that is. The process in the ER was quick and before I knew it I was being wheeled to the CT scanner. I am impressed that this small hospital is able to do CT scans. Because it was a neck injury the doctor realized the importance of getting as clear of a picture as possible. An x-ray wouldn't be good enough. Everyone worked as a team. From the nurse that helped the radiologist to the EMT that placed my IV, everyone had a good balance of professionalism with friendly bedside manner. Sure enough I had broken my neck in two places. That explained the loud cracks I heard. The doctor explained that they were "stable fractures" and admitted me for pain management overnight, which also gave me time to work out a plan to get home. The inpatient nurses did a great job picking up where the ER staff left off with a perfect blend of friendliness and professionalism. I always felt like they cared and knew what they were doing. The nurse explained that because I was being discharged on a Sunday they weren't able to give me a copy of my CT scan for Stanford at that time. Regarding my pre-existing condition, they didn't dismiss it or act like they knew everything and didn't need to listen to me. I am incredibly impressed with this hospital and confident in their capabilities.

A nurse eventually came in to insert the needle necessary for an IV drip. Spent 3+ hours in an exam room before someone came in to see me. By this time, I was tired, but I think the doctor was a man. Poked and prodded a bit, ran some kind of scan, and then vanished again. When someone else showed up, it was to show me the test results: gall stones. No treatment was discussed, no prognosis offered, no suggestions for altering my eating habits, but I got a prescription and checked out. Basically, I got the impression I was being sent home to die. What a waste of time. The staff's bedside manner was deplorable, the level of care an absolute zero, and the doctor uncommunicative, the lack of information astounding. The insurance was swindled out of $17,000 and I had to shell out just under $200 for the privilege of lying on a gurney for over 4 hours. I wasn't even offered a cup of water. I now understand why most locals prefer to drive to Salt Lake City for their medical ailments. I could add a lot more, but I think I made my opinion clear. NOTE: My impressions may be a bit skewed because I can't clearly recall what was done. Maybe they spiked the IV. I'm totally fed up with NNRH. Will do my own research and adjust my eating habits accordingly. As a final insult, the pain pills didn't do a thing...thank goodness my pain was mild. How I wish I'd read the Yelp reviews sooner!!
