The main attraction here is the Capilla del Rosario, one of the most elaborately decorated Baroque chapels in Mexico. The walls and dome are completely coated with ornate sculpture in gold leaf and plaster, including saints, cherubs, and dancing angels. On the walls, golden vines form the frames of six paintings depicting the mysteries of the rosary. I am not the most religious person out there. But I can tell you that I was moved by visiting this church and considering the time, effort, resources, and dedication that went into building this awe-inspiring church. Wow is all that sums up an in-person visit. I am embarrassed I hadn't visited earlier. I attended college in-town when I was younger and was oblivious to the existence of this gem. Well, better late than never! No charge for entry. But a donation to the church is the righteous thing to do so consider it obligatory. Hallelujah! Cabeza OUT!

This church is beautiful and has great significance! The most amazing thing about this church, to…read moreme, is that it holds the remains of Caterina de San Juan, "China Poblana." She was a woman who came from China and loved Mexican culture and people so much that she became Mexican, dressed in beautiful Mexican clothes, and all the dolls around Mexico are based off her! How incredible that her body is here!!!! Another thing that makes this church unique is that it has two towers and three front entrances....this used to be something only Cathedrals had, but this church has it. If you get a chance to visit this place, definitely come!!!

A touchingly beautiful church a few blocks from the Zocalo. This seems to be a secondary church to…read morethe one that's there a short ways down the street on the main square of the city, but it still is quite amazing. The church itself is large, white, and full of delicate designs of Christ and the apostles. There are fresh flowers lining the aisle from the front doors to the altar. Old statues of Christ on the cross and the Virgin line the walls along the interior of the church. They were holding mass when we attended, which was in Spanish. The music and church bells were so beautiful to behold- it was a great respite from the Mexican heat to get in here and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of this church. In front of the church on Saturdays is a crafts market, where they sell cheap handicrafts and textiles. The prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality of wares that they were selling. The only reason I took a star off of my rating was because when I was there, a big wind swept up, and blew a few giant panels of the wall off of the church, sending them flying off and smashing into the street, which could have easily hurt someone walking on the sidewalk. A few moments later, the fire department had blocked off the street to make sure that nobody got crushed by the crumbing church walls.
