A touchingly beautiful church a few blocks from the Zocalo. This seems to be a secondary church to the one that's there a short ways down the street on the main square of the city, but it still is quite amazing. The church itself is large, white, and full of delicate designs of Christ and the apostles.
There are fresh flowers lining the aisle from the front doors to the altar. Old statues of Christ on the cross and the Virgin line the walls along the interior of the church.
They were holding mass when we attended, which was in Spanish. The music and church bells were so beautiful to behold- it was a great respite from the Mexican heat to get in here and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of this church.
In front of the church on Saturdays is a crafts market, where they sell cheap handicrafts and textiles. The prices were incredibly reasonable for the quality of wares that they were selling.
The only reason I took a star off of my rating was because when I was there, a big wind swept up, and blew a few giant panels of the wall off of the church, sending them flying off and smashing into the street, which could have easily hurt someone walking on the sidewalk. A few moments later, the fire department had blocked off the street to make sure that nobody got crushed by the crumbing church walls. read more
