I'd thankfully had the flu vaccine, but still got very sick in the last 24 hours and decided to go to urgent care today. As there's no longer a one in my town, I drive to Berlin. This center opens an hour earlier than the UVM one, which was great because I didn't want to sit around in my car after being up all night waiting to be seen. You fill out the paperwork and scan your IDs via your phone (text message) when you arrive. Then they text you to come in. I was see swiftly by a very friendly patient assistant, who took my vitals and had me take a flu and strep test, based on my symptoms (I'd had a neg Covid at home). Then the doctor came in. He was so nice!! A very sweet gentleman who asked me some questions, checked me out before the results came back as influenza strain B. I'm glad I went. They do have a virtual option, but I was sure I had strep or the flu and wanted to be sure. Will be a long weekend at home, resting. They also do tests for work and school with reasonable fees if you didn't have insurance. My insurance thankfully paid for the visit. Really nice facility. I'd come here again.

Your staff is incredible, but clearly overworked. Do anything you can to keep them on staff. I highly suggest that Alyssa be included within the hiring team, and that her input be genuinely considered. She has prepped me twice within the last month. She really knows her stuff. This hospital is beyond blessed to have such caring nursing and support staff. Dr. Trevisani, Dr. Calhoun- They're quick and to the point, you're under anesthesia, then, BAM! You wake up and get a thorough description of their findings. The team in gowns- I didn't get your names, but you all have great personalities and taste in music! Things dont happened they tell you will happen. When you have to call back to push them to downstairs they're supposed to do yoy get attitude and condensension. I think the LACK of any rankings in US News Snd World report says it all. If it wasnt for Dr Gordon in gastroenterology, Id never set foot in thst hospital again. That being said access to quality Care is atrocious. I have had a referral from March of 2026 to The allergy clinic the appointment has been canceled and pushed out three times the last time I was offered a new appointment to replace one on November 11th 26th with either April 16th or May 5th of 2027. earlier this week I discovered appointments that I had in my calendar which I knew I scheduled approximately 2 weeks ago we're not in my record. Reestablish appointments which I've been going to every two weeks for almost a year, required me to spend almost 45 minutes on the phone and multiple phone calls to get the appointments reestablished. This is not the first time that appointments with the physical therapy department have just disappeared. Twice I have shown up for appointments and been told they don't exist. I have also had that experience in ophthalmology when bringing my mother to regular appointments that she has every 12 weeks. I would add I have brought my mother in for scheduled appointments in ophthalmology. She is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. . On one occasion the doctor she was to see entered the department at 9:15, having been on rounds with residents that morning. We spent over 5 hours in ophthalmology and of that she spent less than 45 minutes with providers. Billing is also an ongoing issue. I am currently trying to sort out over billing issues for my mother which are looking to be in the $30,000 to $50,000 range. I am a veteran, and my billing is through the VA referrals at Hitchcock. I have had issues with their billing company billing both the VA and Medicare I have had them place me into collections even though I did not actually owe them anything. And at least several times a year I get notifications that they have not handled the billing properly and the billing has been declined even though there is a valid referral to the hospital. Despite multiple times having to deal with this, I waste a significant amount of my time making calls to try to correct these errors that are not of my doing. Considering that it's estimated they make 1.4 billion dollars per year I find it unfathomable that there level of service to their consumers outside of medicine is so atrocious. I am also aware that many of their employees feel misused and underappreciated by the administrative staff of the hospital. I do not know how that affects long-term continued excellence in care, but I can't imagine it's going to be beneficial in the long term.

My condition (heart -related) was handled with the utmost care to determine the cause of my extreme symptoms. I appreciate the expertise and sensitivity shown at the Urgent Care, the ambulance, UVM , CAT SCAN and MRI professionals , nurses, doctors of the Emergency Room , , Emergency Room NP , and the intake nurses. Everyone was so kind and helpful, in addition to being professional , I was treated with the utmost respect and courtesy, and l thank them all. I was impressed with the determination and dedication these professionals took in finding the root cause and resolution to my symptoms. It differed from their original diagnosis, and these professionals ordered the TESTS, to confirm ( or not) this preliminary diagnosis, which proved to be erroneous, ultimately. Bravo ! This is the place you belong if you experience an emergency situation. I highly recommend UVM's services . I received exceptional care on January 30-31st of 2026.
