No need to drive 10 miles to get to a supermarket when there's one right in Forest City. It tends to be pricier here because they're the only store in town. You want it, you pay the price or drive down the road a distance. The staff is always pleasant and they are always wiling to cut meat as needed/wanted in the meat department. And the place has that small town atmosphere that is so nice.

My most recent stop was only to pick up some sliced almonds ($3.29) for a recipe -- an item that the two nearby Dollar Stores didn't carry. While there, I also passed a nice display of dried chili peppers, and bought some arbol chilis on whim ($2.29 for 3 oz). Relative to the grocery stores closer to my home, Weis has a far more extensive selection of items. For example, the fruits and vegetables, and salad bar, seem gigantic in comparison. And, as mentioned, I was able to pick up a specialty item, the arbol chilis that aren't available closer to home. Prices are seemingly a bit higher than home, and higher than some groceries stores headed towards Scranton but you'll save some on gas! One odd thing. I found on my receipt that I had earned a few Weis Rewards Points that could be used for gas at Weis' Gas-and-Go, Sunoco, or Mirabiro Fuel locations. However, the points were expiring the very next day (on Nov 25). I am happy to have this store in Carbondale. Staff were friendly. Check-out was easy. Parking was plentiful.

The employee I encountered acted astounded when I asked to use a phone. I explained to her my situation and she then said she "had to ask" if I may use a phone. She got another cashier and they stood discussing my problem while I stood there while a phone was less than a foot from me. Rather than add to the more than 10 minutes I waited I chose to leave and use the phone at Burger King..what if this were a life threatening emergency? There are even times when I will run out of milk or eggs mid-week, and find myself stopping here for those items rather than shopping closer to home. In the several years my family has been shopping here, I have only had one incident where I was charged x2 for an expensive cut of Parmiggiano reggiano cheese but it was corrected during my next visit. The Wegman's brand organic items like the milk, eggs, and dairy creamer leave nothing to be desired. Not to mention their bakery! An absolute gem. Who needs a Whole Foods, anyways? Certainly not I. The person fulfilling the order sent me updates or clarifying questions about substitutions when applicable. Items that they did not have were refunded and delivery was fast. I didn't get his name but he was wearing glasses, had a faux hawk and im pretty sure is a manager. When I asked him if they had edible glitter he laughed at me and said no. I found this to be rude and disrespectful. I walked away I was so mad. However, I then asked someone who was stocking shelves. She was so great to deal with her name was Kayla. She pointed out and helped me look in places it may have been and even checked in the backstock for me. She made my experience better. However, if the guy i first talked to was a manager, I would definitely recommend for him to go through extensive training or be fired because due to that interaction alone, I will not be back. Kayla should definitely be promoted because she is phenomenal!

But I was not prepared for what I was gonna find behind those double doors. Not in the middle of Pennsylvania and a small village that's for sure! The right hand side of The Store, fully 20% of it is hot food bar with a lot of Asian selections and probably one of the best meat counters and appetizer offerings I've ever seen, not to mention great produce. The whole store is laid out really well, it's immaculate, and they have a selection that would rival any grocery store in Newport Beach, California. Literally, The Store would beat the pants off any Gelson's, which is an awful lot. Anyway, they have beer and wine offerings on the far right hand side of The Store along with a nice seating area in the back. If you decide you wanna eat any of your food you're taking to go. The hard alcohol is conveniently located next-door to the right, just in case you were wondering.

To make matters worse, I spent way too much time going in circles with Walmart's chat system just trying to reach a human. After finally speaking with someone, I was told I have to wait another 48 hours before I can even request a refund because they want to see if the order gets delivered again. So let's do the math: 48 hours waiting for a delayed package, then another 48 hours waiting to ask for a refund. That's four days of waiting after Walmart already failed to deliver the order correctly. What does a person have to do to get some wine glasses and plates? The most frustrating part isn't even the delivery mistake. It's spending time with multiple customer service representatives only to end up right back at square one. In an era where companies are investing heavily in AI and customer experience, Walmart needs to do better. If customers have to fight through automated systems and multiple support agents just to get basic help, something is broken.
