Three top acts from the comedy circuit plus one of their regular comperes (Craig Murray should be knighted) and a special exclusive kind of atmosphere which you just can't get at the more 'corporate' clubs. My girlfriend (Libby who wrote the first review) and I have now become regulars and the staff who run the comedy are always really friendly and welcoming. Once you know the place, my tip is pay for your tickets over the phone via their booking line, that way you can request which seats you'd like - they can't always 100% guarantee that you'll get what you've asked for - it is a dinky room and they often have odd group sizes to grapple with but its a nice touch nonetheless. Particularly in the Autumn/Winter peak days (Friday Saturday mainly) often get booked up over a week in advance so book early to avoid disappointment. Thoroughly recommended,

The club is right in the centre of Covent Garden, they get great acts (I saw Harry Hill there last year) and there's always a really great atmosphere (perhaps because its in a cellar and is pretty small which makes the experience feel special compared to other big clubs). I can't help myself…read more Terrible singer or not, I have to sing or I could veritably blow up. In the car, shower, much to my husband's dismay. So when I saw a karaoke place open until midnight, on a SUNDAY, I felt all was right in the world. Cool karaoke places get you excited to be in there, before you even get to the private rooms. Even without people (it is Sunday) I could see myself being a regular there. Then the bad news came: They were closing at 11pm for a service vendor to come in waaahhh! I was a bit sad but then in the same breath, the guy told us we could sing for 35 minutes.. FOR FREE. Totally awesome of him ^_^ Inside, the rooms were clean and modern. The controls are on the wall next to the screen and we found most of the music we liked to sing! There's a mirror in there so you can rate your air guitar/Tina Turner hair flip etc. The only star strike is because the music and the lyrics on the screen are a tiny bit off on almost all the songs. So close, Lucky Voice! But really, if you drink enough, does anybody care? :)

But when two of my closest friends kept hassling me about going to a private karaoke, I suddenly found the prospect of singing without an audience a lot less daunting and decided to join them for a night of singing antics. We decided to go for the Lucky Voice chain. Although we were only 3, they put us in a room that they said is usually dedicated for a group of 6. It was perfect for us 3, but would have been very very tight had we been 6. Once we got there, we were led to our private space which was darkly lit and decorated with dark crimson walls. They have a pretty good selection of songs, new and old, and you are able to control all of the sound and volumes from your own room. There is also an amazing little button called "thirst" which magically contacts a waiter to come and take your orders for drinks. At £ 7.80 a bottle of beer however, be warned that the drinks are extortionately priced. At least we were prepared for it and had fueled up a little beforehand. I had a really fun night at Lucky Voice, but I must warn you that it was a quite an expensive experience and it does tend to attract a lot of office party crowds. Still nothing but good words for the things they do well at VU. Hardly any hassle getting through the door, they hadn't oversold the place (which they might have been tempted to do) and the single bar coped well with the demand. Getting out was no hassle too. It all seemed a little too easy. Importantly though, the acoustics here are great and it was a really enjoyable gig. Yes I have big crush on Kate, but there's no bias in this review. Honest. I'm very tempted to get tickets for whoever else is playing here soon...

It's not about the amount, of course I can pay 3 extra pounds, it's just inappropriate to raise the price just because you felt like it. I also don't appreciate separating groups that are in the queue together, or for that matter, leaving people in the cold just to make the place look crowded, cooler, funner. We were in a group of four, they let two friends in and left me and my other friend behind for 45 minutes. We're texting back and forward the two people that were inside and they said the exact words: "I don't know why you are still waiting. They could fit 30 people and a jacuzzi down here". So yeah, thanks for that. So far you would say it was a terrible experience right? Well yes, but the music saved it all. The DJ was great, the drinks were affordable, the toilets were clean and the location is very convenient. If you want to grab something to eat before dancing, just go upstairs to Pizza East and have a nice slice (order one for me too). Beware: this places closes at 2 am, and if I were you I would pick my coat from the wardrobe 10 or 15 minutes before they start to turn on the lights.

We were ever so early because besides the bar staff, there were only two other people down there. No matter, we were able to make our own fun. The cocktails here are amazing. After the bar staff dissuaded our friend from ordering Jagerbombs, they persuaded her to order a round of Concrete Flips (Espresso, Amaretto, Kahlua, Egg and Sugar). Yum, yum, yum! Because we never learnt our lesson about mixing spirits, we ordered a delicious round of white peach Bellinis. I highly recommend. By the time we left, the place was rammed and it looked like people were settling in for a heavy night of drinking and dancing. I'm definitely going back!

Not sure how often that is the case of course, but if its outside I would recommend it.

Unfortunately, the actual pub doesn't serve food. The pub staff are always really nice even when they're busy. The clientele range from older men to hipsters to young professionals to everything in between. It's a really good place to grab a pint and they even allow four legged friends. I had a lovely time here last night listening to a blue grass band. There was lots of people there and even some dancing. The atmosphere was great and we really enjoyed ourselves! Now that I've listed all the positives, I do need to talk about the negatives. The pub needs a restoration as it is beginning to look a little worn. For example, the carpets need to be replaced and it could do with a fresh coat of paint. However, the place is pretty clean for a pub! This is pretty minor as the other elements are way more important to a night out. On the other hand, this is also part of the vibe. Overall it's a charming aspect of the community that I'm glad is around!

Except for some minor stripping. But that's okay because tassels count for something, right? Anyway, yes the show was actually pretty good. It features some acrobatics, dancing, fire hula hoops, you name it. I was impressed given that the actual stage was quite small. The actors used the mezzanine quite extensively. I think of it as a very light cirque du soleil that is slightly bawdy. But I repeat, it is not a gentleman's club. In fact, the audience was either couples or groups of women. The seating is kind of weird upstairs. The room is circular so you may happen to view the show from behind the actors, which is what we did. It was still good but there were certain scenes that took place behind pillars, and it was a bit harder to view those scenes. I bought tickets for only 15 pounds (that's around $22 USD as of this writing) so it was not a bad deal.

My housemates and I love coming down for quiz night, and it's been my favourite pub to take visiting friends or a casual date since I moved to the area 10 months ago. I've been looking forward to going to the Bonanza queer nights and attending a Sunday blues brunch. However, after an incredibly unpleasant experience on the door last Saturday, I will never be setting foot in the place again. I arrived around 11.15pm with a group of 8 people, celebrating my birthday and out for a good boogie to end the night. Two people in our party put their cups on a windowsill before approaching the door, understandably the manager was irritated by this and I told my friends to remove them and find a bin instead. Despite apologising for this and resolving the situation, the manager then refused us entry, coming up with every excuse under the sun: we were too late to enter, there was a guest list, there was a private event, we had 'bad juju', I was aggressive. None of these things were true. A friend of mine who was alread inside with a different party told me that the place had actually cleared out, it was a quiet night, and this manager was heard bragging about turning away '35 or 40' people that night already for no reason. After we went on to a different pub, she text me that she had spoken to the manager and he would let us in if we got there before 12am. So back we went, only to realise that our new price of entry was to metaphorically get on my hands and knees and lick the manager's boots in apology for my 'aggressive behaviour'. I cannot make it more clear that this whole time I had not been aggressive, I was asking pointedly why we were being refused entry. If there are cameras on the front door, you are more than welcome to review the footage and see for yourself. However, under no circumstances would I prostrate myself and beg forgiveness for something I hadn't done so that this manager could play king of the castle on his little power trip. The bouncer also got involved in this charade and was of no help whatsoever. Perhaps the manager would do well to take a sexism awareness training course if he thinks a young woman asking him questions makes her 'aggressive'. Tonight it's my birthday night out and the Boogaloo fits the bill perfectly. No entry fee, no pressure to get your money's worth, no stress, no massive walk to the tube - just good ole fun dancing times. Perfect for a 20 *cough cough splutter* something who can't hack staying up past 2am. It's the start of November and the place is packed with Halloween revellers looking for a boo-gie - that's a ghost's favourite type of dance by the way. Spooky costumes are abound, but it's actually a rock'n'roll night. The first Saturday of every month, aka this night, is called 'Hot Dog' where DJ Jimi Laff spins 50s. 60s and 70s tunes. Different evenings have different DJs and themes but I have a feeling that nights at the Boogaloo don't vary too much musically from this retro affair. But Hot Dog, Hot Damn! What fun we had! The hits kept on coming and we danced hard. Hours and hours on the floor, I had to drag myself away to rest my tired feet. Not all the club nights here have free entry, but I believe if you get there when it's still in 'pub' mode you can circumvent the entry charge. But once it hits 10pm they dim the lights, and it transforms from social club style pub to party party party. The only negatives about the Boogaloo, and I hope I do not sound like an old woman writing this (but it's my birthday so maybe I am now), is the PA system was a touch too loud, and felt ear splitting at points. Plus it's not a proper club, so there's no decent ventilation - it gets stupidly hot. Also I completely understand security have a job to do, but can't they be a touch friendlier. Sometime's a bit of politeness goes a long way. Luckily there's a beer garden, and some quiet lounges at the back to get away for a respite when it gets too much. But I am coming back, there's more nights to be had, plus swing dance earlier on Saturdays, and nudey life drawing Sunday daytime. Boo-galoo? More like Woo-galoo!

One of our last nights in London we stopped into The Bloomsbury Club…read more After being seated at the covered outdoor bar, the service was spectacular and I ordered (and enjoyed) a Dingle gin (just having been to Ireland and had a Dingle gin flavored ice cream that I loved) with a pineapple juice mixer and the honey ordered a mango fizz (which he adored). During our visit the musician Colin Andrew played/sang and he was amazing. With notes of Paolo Nutini, he really added to the overall vibe and made the night a hit. All in all I can't speak highly enough about The Bloomsbury Club drinks and vibe and would absolutely return in a second!
