the sheridan drive niagara falls blvd location just terrible customer service I have dealt with consumer beverages for 30 maybe 40 years... I've spent a lot of $$$ there and then every return a lot of empties I used to package them up nicely count them make sure everything was neat and orderly. I was told never do that. Don't do that. We have to count them they say just lay them out all on the stainless steel counter. I did the exact same thing I do every time lay them all out and the guy refused to count them. I said OK I'll count them. He said no you can't count them because they're not standing up in cardboard boxes. I said OK but why don't you count them however you see fit and he said he will refuse to count them until I take each one and stand it straight up in the box. I was a little flabbergasted as we're the people behind me in line and saying the same thing "we were told not to count them either we used to and we've never had to stand them straight up in a box We just put them on the counter and the guy would just count them and throw them in the bin" and I said yeah that's usually how they do it .. so then the guy said well you have got to stand them up .. I'm gonna refuse service if you don't if you don't stand them up in the box cause I'm gonna I'll kick your ass out of here and you could take the cans with you at which point I said listen man you don't have to threaten violence on me. This is not right. Why don't you get the manager? The manager rolled up started telling him to shut his mouth stop in flaming the situation, and the guy was such a little disrespectful jerk to the manager that the manager actually had to count them cause he refused to do his job and customers were walking out upset by him ... I don't know why he's employed there. I didn't get his name, but the poor manager was like dumbfounded. He's apologizing to me the employee is yelling and I tell him you can't threaten to kick people's ass out . That's threats of violence, and the kid started yelling and mouthing off again and the manager told him be quiet go somewhere else and the manager counted them. Why does this guy even work there? Went here so my son could buy beer. It's pretty big inside , clean & has A Lot of different beers & drinks. The selection I saw was huge !! Some sounded like they'd taste so good, but I wasn't drinking this New Years with my son in town. (Waiting til he leaves, lol) When I'm this area again, I'll probably stop in & grab something new & try it. One thing that was a little funny & weird is, the employee asked for my Id , I give it to him & then as he hands it back to me, he asks, "are you over 30 years old ?" It's like WHAT ??? A quick story as to why you should just be cool and you won't lose business. I went in for the first time to buy a large quantity of beer for my wedding. Not knowing what to expect, I was taking my time looking around and considering my options. I called my fiancé and sent photos to show her what I was thinking of getting the next day with the truck. After my call I asked a few questions: "do you have any list of the cases you offer?" - no "Oh, okay. Do you have any discounts for buying bulk?" - nope........just multiply 4x whatever the 6pack cost is. So after that exchange, I took out my calculator app and started to do just that. I looked over what I was interested in and started to do the calculations of what we needed and how much it was going to cost within what we wanted to spend. Then I was stopped by another employee: -do you need help with something? "Nah I'm good. I'm just doing math. But thank you." I continued to walk around and make sure I didn't miss anything and sent a text confirming that they had everything that we wanted and that we were going to pick it up the next day. I decided, since I was there, I would grab a 4 pack of something for the evening. As I was walking the aisles I here from the register: -Are you just gonna compare prices so you can undercut us somewhere else? I was caught off guard and confused. So I said, "No, I actually already sent the list over and we are coming to pick stuff up tomorrow." After I left I played that exchange over in my head and I had 0 intention of going anywhere else until that guy opened his mouth. We were all set to come back the next day and drop a couple hundred dollars in that store. I'm sure that's not much of a loss to them but in the end, I did end up taking our business elsewhere. Horrible experience at Consumers Beverage on Sheridan Drive near Niagara Falls Blvd. Our family has been buying our beverage products from this store for over 15 years. I've been there every Saturday like clockwork. Last Saturday I purchased a case of Poland Springs water (40) units. There was something wrong with it. It tasted funny like being out in the sun too long. I brought back the full case to them - NO GOOD. They wanted a receipt. I never get a receipt from them and they know me. The manager - a scruffy looking boy named Brandon said no he would not refund me and became irritated. I left the case of water there and my items to purchase and will never go back. I recently visited the Sheridan Drive location, and it just so happened to be on Valentine's Day. The guy cashing me out gave me a pink carnation, which was totally unexpected, especially at a beer store which is admittedly seen as more of a 'man's' store in most people's eyes. For them to consider doing something for their customers who are women was just really nice and thoughtful. And they probably gave out those carnations to every customer that was a woman until they ran out of them (I saw a big bucket of them behind the register). The store always have a great selection of beers (and ciders, and many other products) and the staff is always super helpful in making suggestions and recommendations; they really know their stuff! On a side note, my husband completely flaked on Valentine's Day and didn't even get me a card, so that carnation ended up being all that I received on Valentine's Day. This is a good Consumers location, about 8 beers on tap for growler fills. Large cooler and they do a good job with cooling quite a few of the local beers too. I like that the selection of local beers is vast and that they showcase a few at the front of the store, that's nice that they give local companies that type of exposure, as well as in their ad. Convenient location and store is well maintained. Staff is friendly and good prices for most part too. Occasionally they offer tastings in store as well. read more

I had to run in to get my Dad some cases of his favorite beer, though, since he lives in the boonies. I was so pleasantly surprised by the customer service I received from these young guys. I couldn't find what I needed, so I went up front and asked if they had any. The guy at the register said they had some in the fridge, and before I knew it, he had me cashed out and there was another guy waiting near the door with my 2 cases! He even walked out to my car with me and loaded them in! The whole trip was probably under 5 minutes, and they were two really nice and super friendly employees. read more

I have only been to this, or any, consumers a few times and I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of beer they carry. If you are looking for large quantities of cheap and "mid" range domestic or practically domestic Canadian beers consumers is probably going to have the best price, but that is not what I was looking for. Their huge craft beer selection and growler fill station is worth the trip for any beer lover. And it seems like you are able to get any of the beers they carry cold, which is a huge deal if you are heading to somewhere or even just home for the night. Their support of local and NYS beers is what has brought me in and they have a huge selection. As long as you are not looking for something to exotic or specific you will leave consumers with a beer you can enjoy for a fair price. read more

Carl at Consumers Beverage is a star! I placed my order for a case of Firestone Walker Double Jack a few weeks before I was going to arrive in Buffalo and it was ready and waiting for me. He also helped me find a few other items, including Sixpoint Resin (another hoppy double/Imperial IPA) and loaded it all in my car for me! I will definitely call and preorder again, instead of searching from store to store the way I did on past trips to Buffalo. I come here pretty regularly for beer, and can say their staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Their selection is one of the best in the area but I sometimes wish they'd switch it up more often. I'm a huge fan of trying new things, but when the aisles are the same month after month, that makes it harder to do. I thought this place was pretty cool with fair prices, but I don't really have any interest in shopping there anymore after my last incident. Maybe I am out of the loop but I think there's something wrong with the situation I am about to elaborate on. I had friends visiting from England and France (both over 21) and we grabbed a few 6-packs for a party I was throwing. The cashier asked to see everyone's IDs, so we all showed him. He would not accept the British guy's passport, so he took out his student ID, license and military card -- ALL of which had his birthday on them, clearly stating that he was of legal age -- and the cashier still would not let us buy the beer. I mean, come on. What more proof do you need? Did he honestly think all of these IDs were fake? So basically if you don't have a US license you don't stand a chance. What about international students? It doesn't really seem fair to me. I've never encountered this problem in other countries, so why are international visitors having this problem here? It really made me embarrassed while introducing my friends to this country. Pro tip: Head to Wegmans instead. International consumers are welcome there. read more

As far as Consumer's go this is a good one to stop in at. They have a big beer selection like the Orchard Park and Clinton St. locations. Plus they also have the home brew supplies like OP store. Usually a good tap selection to fill your growler at this location as well. read more

Would be a four star store, except for their policy on ID. So, I rolled in to Consumers on my bicycle to stock the beer fridge. My drivers license had mysteriously disappeared out of my wallet, which left me with my US Army FEDERAL GOVERNMENT issued ID- which they wouldn't accept. What!? Really?! So, I walked out minus my Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout and Southern Tier Old Man Winter- and pedaled on over to Wegman's where they graciously accepted my military ID. With a smile :) Three stars for the selection, one star for complete disrespect and unwillingness to accept a completely legitimate form of identification. BOOOOO!!!! If you need NY micros, this is the place to go (IF you have proper ID). Other brands: Allagash, Shipyard, Victory, Redhook, Harpoon, Flying Dog, Sam Adams, Anderson Valley, Rogue, Lost Coast, Bear Republic, Sierra Nevada, Anchor, Leinenkugel, the list goes on and on and on.... Cheers: Walk in and get treated to a micro onslaught. Sensory overload, make sure you get a hallway pass before entering. make sure the utilities are payed before venturing in, otherwise you will leave maxed out and broke. At least drive a E85 vehicle in case you spend your gas money here- I am sure any of the Southern Tier Imperial Series can double as flex fuel. Bi-weekly buy one get one free 6er specials. Cheaper than Premier. Return empties with ease. 50 cent single cans if you're broke or need a quick roadie. Front shelves feature big ass bombers and an array of Belgians to get the old passport stamped (which they will not accept as identification). Going to the other high end locale on Transit Road in East Amherst could net you a weekend in the lock up. Located in the second safest town (over 100,000) in America. Jeers: There is always WT present. Customers overheard making fun of the "funny looking expensive beer" (they were buying Bud 18 packs). Parking lot is somewhat confusing, especially after drinking a sixer of Great Lakes Christmas Ale on the way. Could not find a dumpster to take a whiz on making it necessary to pee in an empty vitamin water bottle. Lighting is to bright for pasty western New Yorkers- I believe I may have gotten a UV ray burn while wandering the aisles aimlessly and drooling. read more

I didn't notice a make your own six pack option, but I could've just missed it. I have an out-of-state ID & they did do a hard core check of it (i.e. wanted multiple cards with my name on it).
