No luck in finding street parking, finally parked at a nearby municipal parking garage ($20 max) which was very close to the U.S. consulate building. Walk in notary is between 1300 to 1345 at the 360 University St. entrance. Got there at 1310 and approx 10 people were already in line, took 30 mins to get inside the building. No camera, phone, any electronics with GPS allowed during the security checks. Take elevator to 3rd floor, wait in another line for the service staff to check your documents and ID. Once completed go the the cashier line to pay your USD $50 equivalent. Once paid, go to the sitting area and wait for your name to be called. Finally named called and documents notarized, entire process took a little over an hour from waiting outside to completion of notary. All staff from security, service and notary were pleasant and helpful. Hope I never have to do this again

The other alternative on Glen Erin has paid parking, so I opted to go to this Central Parkway "Mall" instead. ;) (It's not really a mall, btw, but more of a neighbourhood plaza in the Valley.) This Passport Office is newly renovated and is no longer upstairs in some dingy digs, but on the main level. It's pretty centrally located, so you can't really park "too far" from it. As soon as you step into the mall, there are clear signs pointing you in the right direction! If you've filled out all the forms in properly, the process is pretty smooth. You stand in one line for someone to quickly scan your app and give you a number. Then you have a seat where you wait for your number to appear on the digital boards located throughout the room. I went this afternoon and from the time I got my number - when I was served was approx. 20mins. Not too bad. Note: There is no free WiFi.

For tourist visas, its just a basic walk in room where you sit down and submit your papers at a window, as seen in the photo. I went in on a Wednesday around 1130am. There was just 1 girl in there before me. They just check to ensure youre handing all your papers, collect them (and the payment) and give you a pick up date. After 2 weeks, I kept checking my status online and it kept saying it was still in "Received" status. Never moved past that. I called and asked them about this and they said they can't share any info about the status which pissed me off so bad! How do I know they didnt lose it???? Finally a few days before the due date for pick up,it was complete. I gave them an envelope to mail it back to me and it came back within a few days after they were finished processing it. My friend mailed it from Alberta to the consulate in Vancouver and it was all processed within a matter of two weeks. So they're good too.

Or suchlike. :-) The scenario above was completely fabricated, naturally, but if you have the need to be fingerprinted (for immigration purposes, for example), IFS is the place to go. The parking at this particular location is absolutely *atrocious*, so try to take transit if you can or park across the street at the Shoppers Drug Mart. Once inside, though, IFS is quick, informative and not overly expensive. They provided me with several information sheets, such as where I needed to send my documents and prints (even though I already knew), and even though waiting required me to take a number , IFS didn't treat me like one. IFS has several locations throughout the GTA, Ontario and across Canada.
