The first thing you should know is the review from 10/28/2014 is written and posted by the owner herself. Of course, she would give it five stars.
My mom spent two weekends at Consuelo's ALF, and since day one our experience was a very sad and disappointing one. First, the owner kept insisting we sign a 30 page contract, which she used for her full time residents rather than a contract specifically for my mother who was not staying full time. When we tried to respectfully make adjustments to the contract to fit my mother's needs and care, the owner became upset, loud, defensive.
The first day I received a phone call from the owner complaining that my mom "stands too much", and "she won't stay still one minute." She complained that my mother did not sleep her first night, and asked for my permission to use another resident's sleep aid medication on my mother the following night. Using another resident's medication or supplies for other than it's intended use is inappropriate.
During one visit, my sister found a pill stuck to the chair my mom was sitting in. My sister panicked, took the pill with her, and notified me of the event. When I called the owner, she stated " that must have been another resident's pill, that was sitting at that chair previous to my mother being seated there, and that she likes to take them out of her mouth and throw them under the dining room table or the floor". I explained to her that either way, my mom could have found the pill and taken it. It's negligence due to the fact that another resident is not reliably receiving their medication, and this also causes a danger to other residents that may have taken the pill.
After notifying the owner that we did not feel comfortable and would not be taking my mother back to her ALF, the owner stated that she already had another resident for a private room all of a sudden. Owner stated that " it is better that way, because you have too many demands", "your sister is always coming around to check if we are doing a good job" " if your sister has so much time on her hands, why doesn't she take care of your mother?" Disrespectful and unprofessional.
Although the Elder Affairs State of Florida Resident Bill of Rights clearly states you can visit from 9am to 9 pm (at a minimum), they made it clear they were bothered and inconvenienced by our visits. We only checked on her a couple of times a day for those first few days, as this was our first time leaving her at any ALF. A professional in this business would understand that and not be put off by the fact that you are checking on your loved one.
Owner also stated "this is why I prefer to deal with Americans and not Hispanics." Yet another example of her rude, inappropriate, prejudiced, and unprofessional demeanor. read more
