Ralph Lauren shirts for $32.50, Nikes and Pumas for $50+, etc. While strolling around I checked out a few prices and told my wife I just saw a dress stickered for $500, she laughed and said "big deal, I just saw one for a thousand." So you get the idea, right? The store was very neat, well organized, and very full of inventory. High end inventory. A lot of these posts complain about rude staff encounters, well we encountered no rudeness, we also encountered no interaction at all, not even a greeting when we walked in or an offer for assistance. I haven't enjoyed consigning with this business one bit. The prohibitions within the contract are overly expansive. Enforcement gives them a weird sense of pleasure, and they are very strident in enforcing their contract. While I understand the need for it, their attitude is ugly. A small complaint about the strictness is met with a vigorous "It's in the contract. No one reads the contract." The woman's disdain for the people who provide her with merchandise was off-putting. But what really bothers me is that every time I've been in the shop, I ALWAYS feel as if I'm being scolded for some small detail. It's not a good feeling. For that reason, I'm no longer interested in sharing my favorite stuff with this unfriendly store. And I always feel shortchanged. I hate to give such a low rating to a consignment shop, but this store is so over priced, it makes no sense to shop here, over the regular retailer. The prices are all equal to what you would find at Marshall's and at Nordstrom Rack, and some items are even higher. Why shop at Consignment Originals, when you can buy the brand new items at the same or lower cost? The store has a lot of items, navigating through the items takes time, since they're all mixed together. They have tops, outerwear, and jeans separate and by size, but sweaters, shirts, and tops are all on one rack. Needless to say, this store does not appear visually appealing. read more

Twice I have requested a check dispersement only to arrive and not have check available. Furthermore, to charge $3.00 for a check to be mailed is outrageous! Well, back to where we started and it's not great. My original review pointed out the unfriendliness of the staff. It got much better over a few years but it's back to where it was. I brought items in recently and both women working the area looked miserable. RBF big time. Barely grunting to communicate. Reject pickup was the same. I felt extremely unwelcome. That plus the fact that you make Pennie's on the dollar for your items. I think I may do ThredUP permanently now. With a nationwide audience my items have gotten more. The staff was so welcoming and offered to help me with my selections and suggested great items. I ended up spending almost 200$ and got so many new items and wonderful pieces. While looking around the store I found the clothing not so exceptional. I went home and cleaned out a closet. I washed and pressed my clothing and checked for any pilling etc. . Some I brought right over to goodwill the better I brought to Consignment Originals. I took 30 items in feeling quite good as I felt what I was bringing in was in better condition than some out on the floor. Some items were never worn and some items worn once or twice. I then received a text saying 0 of my items out of 30 were accepted. I have never been so humiliated. There was nothing wrong with my clothing. When I asked why I was told while mine were in great shape, they don't take anything over 3 years old, mine were borderline. I understand the strictness of consigning. I just am insulted as the clothing on the floor were not any better than mine, as a matter of fact some should go straight to goodwill. . read more

If I could give a lower rating than "not good," I would. I was "greeted as I was just barely in the door, by a rude, ill-manner woman who nastily told me "we stop taking consignments at 2:00." I had called earlier asking about the consignment process and that was NOT mentioned. She stopped short of calling me a liar. Any professional would have erred on the side of the customer. Instead of being called out, I should have been welcomed to the shop; politely informed of the store's procedure and graciously invited back. Because I was insulted, I will NEVER return. I too was greeting with the phrase, "two years old or less" in regards to the age of clothes being consigned and was taken back because many styles don't go out of fashion. "This is trash" is what was said by the woman behind the counter as she dropped my original membership card in the waste bin. I have been consigning with you folks for several years now, in different locations, and admit my membership card had seen better days. These are just two points of poor customer relations that day which could have been handled better, if even said with a change of tone in her voice. Most of the time spent consigning was like I was not even standing in front of the women, invisible, with them making comments and talking to themselves with no concern of being overheard. Despite the general manager contacting me to find out how the situation could be corrected (good practice) I feel there is no resolution. The store has lost my business and respect. I have worked in retail most of my life, owned my own business, and volunteer. I believe there is always a level of courtesy to be upheld in any field. This is my favorite consignment store! The clothing brought to this store from consigners are brand names and are offered at great prices. The new store manager, Jenna is terrific. I had a few things I wanted to get rid of and I figured consignment was the best way to do it considering these items were still new...Wrong. Consignment Originals is THE WORST thing you could ever do to get some money for your stuff. Between mid December and mid March I made around $12 for four items that totaled $53?! They take 50% of your proceeds and take another 25% or more out of your half for sales, and they're always running some kind of promotion. Worst of all Consignment Originals lost one of my items or better yet stole it because it wasn't even listed on my inventory list?! I can't wait until May 27th at 10am to pick up the rest of my things and sell them myself on eBay if any of these items are even there anymore?! I'm terrified to find out as some things are high end!! If I could give this consignment chain 0 stars I would. If all that isn't bad enough the owner is extremely rude. It's amazing how she managed to find such nice employees?! Please think twice before choosing consignment, especially Consignment Originals!!! read more

Don't waste your time! I just brought in 6 pair of nearly brand new, plus size, Gloria Vanderbilt capris. They sell for $35 - $50 each at Kohls. The manager, Carla, refused them, saying that they were cheap from Costco & BJ's and she "couldn't mark them high enough". They are in perfect shape and the only reason I was looking to consign them is because I lost weight and they are all too big. Last summer I brought in several similar pairs (GV from Kohls) and every one of them sold, so I know there is a market for plus size capris. I don't know what this woman's problem is, but I am done with this place. She was so condescending about my supposedly "cheap" pants. I used to love this place, but I'll be looking elsewhere from now on. read more

I visited this store for the first and last time today. First, when I walked into the store I wasn't even acknowledged even though the salesperson was standing there not doing anything. On the sale rack in the back of the store I found a dress marked down to $10.25 (I think). I knew the designer and knew that it was a good deal. When I brought it to the register the clerk told me that she couldn't sell it to me for that price. She told me that "someone" must have switched the tags and then disappeared into the back and after 5 minutes came back with a new tag pricing the dress at $58.25. I told her that it was bad business not to honor the price on the tag and she said she could never sell the dress for that price and, again, said someone must have switched the tags. I was floored to say the least. I've never in my life had a store not honor the price on a tag. It certainly wasn't my problem that the price was wrong. I called when I got home and explained exactly why this was bad business and she told me I didn't understand how consigning works. I do, I've consigned and I'm a huge consignment shopper. It's called the cost of doing business. Sometimes you just have to suck it up when an employee makes a mistake. How can you shop at a store when you don't know what they're going to charge? If the deal is really good they'll just tell you that it was priced wrong. Aside from not buying the dress it was a humiliating experience. I would NEVER do business with this store. They've missed out on a very good customer. The woman who manages/owns the store is unbelievably rude. I will tell everyone I know not to visit this store. read more

I called to see if they were open until 8 pm tonight. No, they close at 6 Monday-Friday and are not open late any night. Unlike every other retailer in Farmington Valley, these people can't be bothered to be open late any night. Oddly enough, since they are all members of the working community, they don't have any respect for other members of the working community that work until 6 pm. I too have shopped at Consignment Originals in Rocky Hill and was thrilled to learn they were coming to Avon. When I walked in with my items and began speaking to the customer representative behind the counter, she told me that I'd have to wait until she took care of something and moved to another area of the store where she seemed to be arranging jewelry behind the counter. There were no other customers. I patiently waited and she finally came over with a very unwelcoming attitude. What happened to the concept of the customer comes first? Don't Waste Your Time! I've been a loyal Consignment Originals customer for about 15 years, almost entirely in Rocky Hill, until the Avon location opened. Let me be clear; Rocky Hill is FABULOUS to work with. After today, I will be closing my account in Avon and going back to Rocky Hill, despite the fact that it's not convenient. I brought a laundry basket full of items in today. Having consigned for so long, I very much understand what they will and will not take. Today I was informed they are only taking items less than two years old. In my opinion, that somewhat defeats the purpose of a Consignment store, but that's not my say. Apparently they are strict with that rule, because I actually saw the associate looking for the date tags on one of my skirts. What really upset me however, was that there were numerous items she did not even take the time to unfold and look at. I asked her what was wrong with an adorable Baby Gap pair of shortalls, and she claimed that they only take baby clothes if the tags are on. Again, doesn't that somewhat defeat the purpose of a consignment store? At the end she did not take a SINGLE item out of probably 15. I can't believe I wasted my gas and time. Again, I've dealt with CO for years and never had an experience like this so I was quite disheartened. In the beginning of the transaction, I declined to look around while they reviewed my stuff and have to wonder if that's the reason she couldn't be bothered with me, since clearly I wasn't giving any money back to them. read more

They know my name and greet me with a hello each time I walk into the store. I have also found some great pieces in the store that I purchased with my consignment cash. Up until now I would have said just about the same thing and given it a thumbs up review....However, today when I went in the manager was not very friendly nor at all helpful. I had several items that hadn't sold and she not only was NOT about to help me, she told me that CO didn't encourage people to come back to pick up unsold items and she couldn't/wouldn't give me the color of the dress I was looking for not tell me how much certain items had sold for. Previously, the young woman who I had dealt with couldn't have been more helpful. I was totally discouraged today. Unfortunately I have things that will need to be picked up next week and then again in March...after that I will most likely go elsewhere.. I have consigned clothing and various items for years at multiple locations and thought I would try this new store. We delivered items oct 31st and again on nov 3rd and was told that it would be best to keep the items there through the holiday season. If the items were not sold at that time, they gladly stated they would help locate the items for pick-up. I arrived on Jan 5th to see if any items were sold and to retrieve any remaining items and was told that the inventory had coincidently been cleaned out the previous day and that my items were likely donated. The manager offered no assistance in locating the items even though the store had no customers within. I found a few items but have no record if the remaining items were in fact donated or sold. For a new store looking to gain repeat business through good customer service, I am surprised that the manager chose to act in that manner. I have never written a review on yelp before. My experience at Consignment Original was so distasteful, I felt compelled to write one. Before the holidays, I brought in 7 party dresses that my daughters had worn a few times thinking they might sell. Although the dresses were not purchased this year, these dresses had not gone out of style. In fact I had seen similar dresses in the department stores. Five items were brusquely rejected. One of the dresses that was accepted was brand new with all the tags still on. The sales person explained that if the items were not sold in two months they would be donated unless i picked them up. 10 days before the donation date, I showed up to see if the items were sold. I was told they were not and to look thru the racks for the items if I wanted them back. I only found one item after searching through all their racks. I asked if the dress could be anywhere else. She then looked on her computer and told me the dress with the tags had been later rejected and donated. I asked why they didn't call me and the salesperson told me it was their policy and in the "fine print". She then tried to ridicule me by saying that the proceeds of the sale were so small I shouldn't be making a big deal about this. I told her it wasn't the amount of money but that I felt that this was a very shady business transaction. I told her I wanted to speak to the manager who was not in the office and was apparently the person who later rejected the item. She took my number and said the manager would call me later that day. I joined their Rewards Program on my first visit; I love the extra discounts I rack up and "flash sales" that I receive by text. I started consigning a few things today. Wow! What a pleasant experience I had at the new Consignment Originals shop in Avon Connecticut. I have been consigning clothing and household items around the Hartford area for years and I was excited to discover that Consignment Originals which was started in 1982 opened a new store in Avon, which for me is more conveniently located than their store in Rocky Hill, CT. So last week I decided to give it a try. I walked in and general manager Jackie and her assistant Laurie, greeted me with open arms and a glass of wine and cheese, because what the heck it was a Friday night, and once a month they have an event on a Friday night just because! Not a bad welcome! I came to find find out that I was a few hours past the scheduled time that they accept new items, but they said since I made the trip, they weren't going to turn me away, and to bring in what I had. I was overwhelmed with how friendly and wonderful they were. My past experiences at various consignment stores hasn't always been positive. not to mention, I find it rather intimidating to have my things scrutinized and then have some turned down often with a turned up nose. Not so, at CO in Avon. The few things they did not take they gently told me was because the season was wrong and I was welcome to try again in the fall, or donate them, which I took as a gentle way of saying we might not be interested but we don't want to make you feel bad. That's the first time that's ever happened! If you aren't used to shopping for consignment items definitely give this store a try. If you like to shop in nice consignment stores, but you haven't tried Consignment Originals in Avon, definitely go there ASAP. You will not be disappointed.
