I went in to buy a lottery ticket for $30. When I put my money in, the machine jammed. I couldn't buy a ticket and I couldn't get my money back. I told the clerk who seemed helpful, but when she saw the machine she said, "There's nothing I can do. Sorry." I asked if there was a manager she could call, or anyone who might be able to get my money back. She said, "No, now leave the store." I called the police so I could at least file a report and take the report to the store manager and hopefully get a refund or ticket. In the meantime, the clerk ran into the back to tell the dishwasher what was going on. The dishwasher had keys but no password access to the machine. However, when she opened it, my $30 was credited back to the machine and I was able to get my ticket. I thanked the dishwasher for at least trying to help, unlike her co-worker.
What kind of business hires people whose response is, "There is nothing I can do. Now leave the store"? She must be new.
