My husband wasn't feeling well (thanks, misdiagnosis from Kathy's Urgent Care in Rocky Hill) so I took him to the ER here. We waited for over 2.5 hours in just the waiting room, finally got him into a super old room that had equipment in it from when the hospital was no doubt built, and waited another hour and a half before a nurse even came in to take his information. And it wasn't even that busy that night. Waited ANOTHER hour for another nurse to finally come and take him for a chest x-ray, and then waited another 45 minutes for him to come back with the x-ray results. The room was dirty, the walls were falling apart, ceiling tiles were cracking, and I don't think the area behind the door has been swept in a good 3 years.

They see children, adults, and the elderly; it could be for a simple routine visit or a complicated medical issue. The visits can be in any of their many locations or a virtual one. They also use the MyChart portal which makes it convenient for patients; you can message your doctor, request prescription refills, make appointment, see test results, and more. I've seen my primary care doctor through this network and have had a good experience. My gynecologist, who is from a different network referred me to this office. Since I have a family history of breast cancer, I was referred to a breast specialist. It is better to be proactive than reactive! Ladies, get those mammograms! Especially if it's covered by your health insurance. This office reached out shortly after and I was able to make an appointment fairly quickly. The location was large with plenty of parking. Upon entering, there was a help desk that showed me where to go. Checking in the office was easy and I was seen within 5 minutes. The whole appointment took about 30-45 minutes. The APRN Kayla Cristoferi was super warm and professional. She was thorough, went over standard protocols, and answered any questions I had. Checking out was also quick and easy. The facility was clean and pristine. Overall, I've had a good experience so far.

I recently spent two nights in this hospital. I was supposed to have an outpatient procedure in the…read morecardiology Cath lab that ended up requiring admission to the hospital. While my time spent in the Cath lab with their team of nurses and doctors and technicians was absolutely without issue, I wish I would have known how awful it was going to be once I was admitted to the hospital. They were managing my pain with a narcotic however after approximately an hour of getting the medication in my IV; the pain we return. Since my pain level was not being managed by the medication, they made the decision that I could not be cared for at home and should be admitted to the hospital. Once I got my room they continued to manage my pain and my nausea. Here is a list of my biggest issues: 1. Pushing the nurse call button; it was unclear based on the technology or the response time whether I was actually heard. Because I was in such pain I would count down the minutes to the next time I was able to get my next dosage of narcotic pain medication. Sometimes the red light would stay on and others it looked like I hadn't pushed it. Many times the intercom button would ring I as if I had called it. It was on the table next to me, I hadn't leaned on it. 2. At one point I threw up a couple times and had to ask for the nurses to bring me something to throw up into. That same plastic bin was then left in my room with the contents in it on my table (where they brought in my meals) for what seemed like at least 12 hours 3.They didn't seem to know whether I was a fall risk or not. I was on heavy pain medication and could barely walk due to delirium, nausea and weakness. 4.They have white-erase boards near the patient's bed that tell you what your name is, why you're in the hospital, who your nurse is, when you're next pain medication is coming, what your pain number is and what your discharge goals are. This was so sad, because they never wrote anything on the board other than the nurse's name. I had no idea the next time or what medication was coming for me to help with the pain. 5.I was vomiting and peeing from the force in my hospital bed and I would call the nurse and have to explain to them what was going on I remember them not really knowing why I was in pain which is alarming since they have my entire chart up in front of them; hypothetically. 6.If I was in distress & the nurse was visiting her patient on the other side of the curtain, they would pretend that I wasn't there. I was moaning in pain asking for things. 7. When I pushed my call button the voice that would come back through the intercom sounded like the most angry, unhappy, uncaring voice basically saying, 'what do you want'. 8. The 2nd night I was able to unplug my IV and wander down the hallway to try to find out who my nurse was. I did this because I knew that shift-change had happened she had not come in and introduce herself to me. I found her name next to mine on the wall in the hallway. She seemed confused because I asked her specifically by name and she said, 'That's me... who are you?' 9. I asked for toothpaste /ear plugs, and disposable underwear since I had not intended to stay overnight. Toothpaste and ear plugs never showed up. 10. I remember having to explain what procedure I had had done and what I was experiencing to the nurses and to some degree to the supervising Dr. In a way that felt like they didn't know or hadn't heard of it before which was scary. 11. The alarms beeping in our room would go off for 30+ minutes. We'd have to call each time to the nurses station. 12. This hospital has a 24/7 visitation policy, people in your room talking at any hour of the night? Wtf.

BE AWARE: Annual Routine Eye exam in Bristol, CT resulted in an $841.00 charge (insane for routine…read moreexam). The exam itself went well, Dr. Lavoie was thorough and professional but the billing is an entirely different situation. I've been calling the billing department for 6 months to understand the additional charges to no avail except for one individual, Edmond, others are non-responsive and do not call you back. I've had to appeal with my insurance company and they are assisting but Staring has refused to reduce the charges or change the CPT codes associated with this visit. They've now handed this over to a collection agency, I've never had to deal with any collection agency, I'm a person that pays their bills promptly but this is principle they NEVER stated these 'other tests' were outside the Routine exam fees and I'd be changed additionally. It's unfortunate that after almost 40 years of being a patient I, my husband and the rest of my family will be moving our optometrist needs to another practice. BEWARE!!!
