Would not go back. I counted on him to help me start a car. He did not deliver. Left me hanging.

I had a hard time getting information regarding the new transmission. They said they ordered it from AutoZone. But when I went to AutoZone. They said they didn't have any record of it. The transmission encountered a couple of leaks the first two times they took care of it but as of now it's still leaking. I've left them several voicemails and an emails asking him if he could fix it. Yes I've even stopped at the shop. The strange part is the phone number that I've been in touch with the owner now says that it's the wrong number. But it's the same number on yelp. So I don't know if this guy is just playing games and doesn't want to step up to fix this problem. I just hope it's a miscommunication thing and he'll get back to me once he sees this. So Corey if you're out there, give me a call. I'd appreciate it thanks.

Had an issue with my suspension and needed to make my way back to LA...Bear Valley Overland stayed until 6PM to fix my truck and made sure I made it home safe. You can tell these guys really just wanted to help. They could have been home, showered, fed and two beers deep by 6PM, instead they stayed to help me and my family. Many other mechanics would have turned me down or charge me and arm or a leg. On road or off road, these are the most genuine people in the business. Highly recommend.

I just had a great experience at Phil's Automotive. My girlfriend and I moved to Big Bear Lake…read morealmost 3 years ago, and Phil's has been working on our three vehicles anytime we've needed repairs. Recently, a check engine light came on in one of our cars. I took it to AutoZone to have a diagnostic check run. They said I needed a new alternator and a few other parts serviced or replaced. I took it to Phil's. They thoroughly checked the car and ran their own diagnostics, and it turns out it wasn't the alternator. This isn't a ridicule or slam of the folks at AutoZone. It's just a vote of confidence and appreciation, knowing that there's an honest mechanic here in Big Bear Lake; they could've easily taken advantage of us. Needless to say, the crew at Phil's will be servicing our cars as long as we live in the BBL --

I stopped by Phil's on a Friday hoping for a quick visual, but the lady in the front office showed little concern -- just flipped through the appointment book and said the soonest appointment was Wednesday. I understand they were booked and I didn't have an appointment for my emergency. With the courtesy of a quick look they might have told me not to drive at all and to have it towed, or said it could be managed temporarily by topping off and monitoring coolant. Or someone might have looked and said, "we can see it's leaking, but we can't pinpoint without further inspection, but unfortunately we can't do that today." Even that would have been greatly appreciated. (ICYDK: A red alert indicator generally signals a serious or critical fault -- meaning you should pull over immediately and not continue driving until it's resolved.) I ended up going to OC Rovers. They were busy too, but once I popped the hood it took only a moment for their mechanic to see coolant was leaking from the water pump. Phil's could have taken two seconds to do the same, but refused. Complete bummer and very disappointing. As a part-time Big Bear resident, I was hoping to find a go-to shop on the mountain. Other reviews mention Phil's saving the day in emergencies, but that wasn't my experience. On the positive side, their shop did look clean, well organized, and equipped with modern tools.

When I found them hands down way above the others on every level. Their costs are below every other place. I needed a transfer case replaced and when I called other places they quoted a grand more and talked down to me like they were too busy and didn't care. One place wanted to charge me $150 just to put it up on the rack and look at it!! Just look at it without even draining the fluid. These were a few places that have been here for decades. I was so insulted. Jim and Jeremy (father and son) are two of the nicest people I've ever met in general in my life. I could just hang out with them all day. Right away they treated me like family and took me in. I felt so cared for and trusted them immediately. I needed two control arms also fixed a couple months after that. My car was jumping around a bit and then I went down the hill and it was so bad around the curves I was so scared I pulled over on the side of the road and called Jim crying. He talked to me like I was his daughter telling me what to do. Got back had them fixed immediately again costs low. There have been other things that were weird they looked at it and it was a simple fix that took 20 minutes without any charge! I was literally begging them to take my money! I could write a novel on this review about how good they are. I have no personal connection with them. I am writing it only as a customer just so incredibly grateful. Thank you Jim and Jeremy for taking such good care of me and my car! I'm a lifer now!
